Heralds Challenge.

By Avi_dreader, in Fan Creations

I propose a challenge: come up with a thematically driven herald that begins the game by spawning some sort of monster type that is heavily amplified.

I.e. create a Dracula herald (featuring the Vampire). Or make something using The Servitor of The Elder Gods. Or really any sort of monster that you enjoy and would like to pump up with story and steroids. I've already done something like this with two of my heralds. One highlights Rat-things, and the other Wraiths. If no one takes me up on this, I'll probably end up making something for the vampire or the servitor.

Good luck :')

Here's one for you, Avi. I've been meaning to make this for some time, as I needed something to interact with my Doll monsters (I took that power away from Molesh).

The forums have been pretty dead lately. I don't know where everyone went! Maybe they were just so busy for a while because Innsmouth was coming out. There are some new players posting though, which is cool. Good to get new blood. "To the novice, there are many possibilities, but to the master, there are few." Or something like that. ;)

Looking forward to hearing what you think of this guy!

I can't think about him, I'm too creeped out ;') Creepy creepy picture (I was terrified of clowns when I was younger— but I think this picture would strike anyone as massively creepy).

::Sigh:: I should have said a herald that interacts with an already existing game component monster (mostly because I don't like printing out monsters— since they can't blend in with the monsters in the Monster Cup).

That being said, the concept of a separate doll cup is pretty good. I also like the madness inducing dolls. But terror level six is a bit high (unless some of your dolls or Molesh increases the terror level). I generally like your custom component concepts (and images), unfortunately I only use heralds and AOs (i.e. I wish you made things that I would consider printing out). I won't print out custom cards or monsters because they don't blend in with decks. Ah well... :') thanks for posting though, it makes me sad that the board is so still. I suspect Innsmouth is partially responsible for the sluggishness too. Feel free to post another entry :') I've decided to post a Dracula AO (yeah, I know, it's been done before, but I hated the art, and I think mine would be rather different, and kindof interesting since it would be using The Vampire as an avatar prior to awakening). I'll probably do it by the end of this week.

P.S.

CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY!

LOL, I don't much like printing custom monsters either, however, I did find that LemmingSunday's post, "I've been meaning to write this about custom printing" had great steps to follow for doing so. I followed these steps and what you end up with are monster tokens that are indistinguishable from official components as far as size and thickness go. I also went a step further and sprayed 2 coats of Krylon matte clear coat on my pieces to make sure the ink didn't smudge. This made the pieces extremely tough and waterproof! In fact, I experimented by putting come cocacola on one of the pieces I decided not to use. I left it there about 40 minutes and when I wiped it off, you couldn't even tell it had been there. Pretty sweet! The problem with creating monster tokens in this way is that it is extremely time consuming. On the other hand, once you're done, you have some quality product that will last at least as long as the official components do. So, if you ever decide that you have the time and you want to make some custom monster markers, this seems to be the way to do it. :)

::Cough cough:: okay, I created a Dracula Ancient One (not quite a herald, but close enough). Anyways, I'm going to post it in this thread as well. I have an idea for the Werewolf involving infection and possession of investigators. I've also been toying with the idea of a herald just to keep track of time (I put in a day/night change element on The Lich King— which I just reposted albeit slightly modified so that it wouldn't annoy me anymore— but it's not quite what I have in mind now). What do you think? A Time herald designed to be played with other heralds or ancient ones. I think the difference between night and day would be thematically effective for many AOs and Heralds and that it would save explanatory text on their cards... What do you think?

Mmmm... I still don't have any ideas for The Servitor. Anyone?

Here's a modified repost of something I made a while back. I fixed a couple problems with the card and changed the image and flavor text. It's intended to be used with The Black Goat expansion (finally, you'll get corruption cards).

Here is a comment for Dracula: SCARY! This guy is definitely tough, even without any heralds. Seems like a great challenge though. I think, like you said, this would be a good challenge for experienced players. I think my buddy and I will have to get some more wins under our belts before we take this guy on. gui%C3%B1o.gif

:') Yeah, he's intended to be quite tough without any assistance from heralds. I wanted to make him independent of anything else, although, as I said before, he could be coupled with one of the others I've made (The Lich King, or The Arbiter of Reality) to make him a true nightmare (I wouldn't recommend doing that unless your team actually *selected* their investigators though— it would be a cool match, and a worthy challenge for some of Arkham's best).

Actually, if I were to make him a herald (and I'm not saying I have any intention to), I might do something that uses the Werewolf, ghoul, and Fire Vampire. I've no idea for this yet though (which isn't to say that I won't make something if an idea pops into my head). Unless I decide to scrap my ideas for a Werewolf herald (no, that's not going to happen).

::Sigh:: I'm still dying for a herald that makes use of the Servitor. Someone, anyone? ;.( I want see the Servitor more. I need my conjugal visits.

;') No comment.

Heh heh heh... I have finally got my idea for the Servitor herald... It's going to be quite hideous and painful. I'm going to have it accompany Hastur. Prepare for terror :') I'll make it sometime in the next week. ;'D Although if I can find an illustration for it I like, it might be made a bit sooner. I'm *very* pleased with the idea. It's fairly sadistic (as are all my creations), and it's going to make it so I can enjoy playing Hastur again ;'D
