Corran's Control - EBY

By Eruletho, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I ran Thug Lyfe at the St. Petersburg regionals not too long ago, and got to thinking about how I could apply the same Y-wing concept to my favorite rebel pilot (Corran) and help him clean house a little better than with Han. The first iteration of my new squad idea was simply two gray warthogs with a fully loaded, 48 point Horn:

Corran Horn with PTL, FCS, R2D2, and Engine Upgrade

2x GraySquadron with ICT, R2 Astromech, and BTL-A4

100 points on the nose

This version, my Y-s shoot before most swarms are are immune to half of predator's effects, but are more prone to getting bumped. I found running Thug Lyfe that these y's really don't need a ton of actions to just pour damage on their targets, as most games I was constantly stressed or bumping (or both). Corran in this configuration I already know works. The issue I decided in this squad was the actual lack of damage, and relatively small amount of control provided. Sure, I get 6 attacks in a good round of fire, but in a bad one I might only get 2 with all my ships pointed the right way. I have no way of inflicting stress, which is the biggest problem I had in my games in Florida with the 4Y squad. I did a little re-arranging and playing, and tried to mix in some of panic attack for the revised squad:

Corran Horn with PTL, FCS, R2D2, and Engine Upgrade

Gold Squadron with ICT, R2A3, and BTL-A4

Blue Squadron with Flechete Cannon, BWE2, and Tactician

Now my support is more open to predator, but I exchanged a little ion control for a ton of stress opportunities. I don't mind double or triple or octupuling the stress on the Y, as it still can manage some damage and really still accomplishes it's new main job of pouring stress tokens on it's target. The B needs to shoot first of the two with it's cannon to actually inflict the cannon's stress, but also has tactician to help ensure a stressful attack. If need be, I can also convert the B into just a damage machine, using it's primary weapon and relying on the Y for stress. Corran, as always, plays cleanup. A side option that I thought of was dropping the Cannon on the B for a Seismic Charge in the Y to give a little anti-swarm insurance, but I figure Corran's double tap and the sheer health of the B and Y should help me with that.

Any thoughts on either version of the list?
