How many side missions can possibly be drawn and revealed during a campaign?

By taleden, in Imperial Assault Campaign

By my count, there will be up to 6 regular side missions revealed as options for the rebel team during the course of a core set campaign: two right away, then one additional replacement drawn as an option after each of the first four side missions. A replacement doesn't need to be drawn after playing the fifth side mission because it would never be played anyway.

If the Imperial player puts Agenda side missions into play, it seems to me that they would only increase the number of drawn side missions if the rebels opt not to play them -- then the Agenda mission would disappear (granting the reward to the Imperial) and they'd draw a replacement for the regular side mission that they chose to play instead, just as if the Agenda mission had never been there. The core set includes 3 Agenda side missions and 2 Agenda forced missions, but the forced missions would have no impact on the number of side missions that would come up.

So by my count, the total number of side missions that could ever be drawn and revealed during a core campaign should be 9, and that's only if the Imperial buys all three core set Agenda side missions, and the Rebels decline to play any of them, which is pretty unlikely.

Does this math sound right to you all? Or am I missing some way that even more side missions could be drawn during a single campaign playthrough?

Six side missions would be drawn over the course of the campaign.

If the Rebel players complete an Agenda side mission, they do not draw another side mission card to replace the Agenda side mission.

But, if the Imperial player plays Sabotaged Plans (Agenda card), then seven side missions would be drawn over the course of the campaign.

When you have the 2 side missions revealed and the IP plays a forced mission, (which is then played). What is the next mission to be played?

The Rebel side mission or is this now missed and it goes back to the story mission??

Only asking as on the Campaign sheet the forced missions are written at the bottom of the page (in red) under the list of missions played. Is this also written above in the list of missions?

So is it 'Forced Mission' - Story Mission.

Or does it go 'Forced Mission' - 'Side Mission' - Story Mission.

After a forced mission the campaign continues as if the forced mission hadn't been played so if you just played a story mission you'll have a side mission next (or the finale but that's a side case).

Ah ok. Tks. So we need to play a side mission to catch up then. Cool. 3 side missions on the bounce unless I can get another forced mission in there as after the forced mission we ended up played the story mission instead of the 'side mission' as we did last night.

Didn't read this post until now.

Cheers guys

Also do not mix a Forced mission with a imperial agenda mission. The imperial agenda missions arent obligatory like the forced ones. First time I looked into those rules I misunderstand that.

I misunderstood that the first time as well and ended up giving the Rebels a freebie mission with extra credits and XP.

You have Forced Missions - Rebels cannot choose to not play them. These missions doesn't replace any of the other missions - so its an extra mission.

You have Agenda Side Missions - these are added to the available side missions, you can play any number of them at the same time. These are optional, but any Agenda Side mission the Rebels do not play at the next Side Mission slot gets discarded, and the Imperial Player gets the reward. Should the Rebels play the Agenda Side Mission, they lose the Side Mission slot but still have the same two side missions to pick from at the next slot. Playing two at once guarantees the Imperial Player gets at least one of the rewards, or possibly two if there is another Side Mission the Rebels rather want to play, or it helps block the Rebels from getting one of their rewards because they don't want the Imperial Player to get theirs.

"Should the Rebels play the Agenda Side Mission, they lose the Side Mission slot but still have the same two side missions to pick from at the next slot."

Does it actually say in the rules guide that the rebel players lose the side mission slot? My group has not been playing that way. We just assumed that the campaign continues from that slot with the rebels choosing from the remaining side missions.

How many Forced missions are there?
I think I've only seen one while flicking through my Agenda decks.

An Agenda side mission is a side mission like any other, and works just like any other side mission. Threat missions in Return to Hoth are the same. They add to the list of side missions that the Rebels can play, and use up Side Mission slots. The only missions that don't use up story/side mission slots in the campaign are Forced missions, which may result from an Agenda or from an event in a mission.

Don't have the Agenda cards with me right now, but there's at least one Forced mission that triggers in the base campaign based on certain events.
