More Imperial players than Rebels?

By Norsehound, in Star Wars: Armada

Perhaps it's just a reflection of the reality. The Empire always outnumbered the Rebels. Really Armada is depicting a relatively rare scenario where a Rebel force actually goes toe-to-toe with an Imperial force. The objectives help "justify" the Rebel presence better to some extent.

But anyway, yes, the Rebels are the virtuous force. Ergo they are fewer. Thus more people are Imperial players. Because Rebel players are virtuous people. And therefore fewer....

;)

Go play X-wing sometime...

YT's everywhere :/

which is part of the reason why we're playing Armada :P

Until Rogues and Villians?

those are going to have to be some incredible YTs

poor buggers are so tiny here

I thought the Empire was easy mode. That's why I chose Rebels. I also realize I chose the path of pain.....

oh well....

I don't know, imps only seem easy mode until you get behind the incredibly stiff wheel of the victory

and rebs only seem easy mode until you try covering a Neb's scandalously long sides :P

Lately I have been enjoying the Empire Ships more, they are more risk reward.

I see the Rebels that way much more. I'm prepared to lose more than I will win, but fear me once I crack them.....

I honestly think it comes down to the look of the ships, a lot of people seem to like the imperial ships a lot better than the 'Space guppy' and it's ilk. I blame the Assault Frigate mkII and MC30 - two of the ugliest and least practical looking spaceship designs in the star wars universe - at least the assault frigate is iconic, the mc30 is just so bland, it needs something. Some fins or extra superstructure at the back I think - although the pictures I can find on google look better than the model in my opinion.

I don't think Aesthetics really affect what gets played significantly. Most Gamers see stats first. Shiny looks second to last, only beating out monetary cost.)

For appearance I prefer the Rag Tag feel of the rebels to Imperial uniformity.

I think there will be a back and forth between the two. Right now Imperials seem like the easier side because they have more power per model than the rebels thus making them more affordable much like when X-wing was at wave 3 when the dominating ships were 4 B&Xwings or 7-8 Tie Fighters so during wave 3 it seemed like there were more rebel players than imperial players. A 3 VSD fleet is a powerful build and it cost less than 8 Corvettes.

Rebels all the way!

Heard from a friend that some of the local Armada players are buying for Imperial lists rather than Rebel ones. While, as an Imperial Navy fan, it pleases me... it also means we have quite a few people preparing to be warlords in the near future...

er...

I suppose this shouldn't be too surprising? Armada is really just Star Wars: Star Destroyer, after all. The Empire is characterized by their magistic and imposing capital ships, and everyone wants to drive them. But I was curious... are most players out there going to be Empire players, or is there a balance with rebel players?

After all, the power of a thing can be measured by the strength of its enemies.

The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers!

Yeah, I like playing the nobel underdog.

IMO, I don't think I or others will be excited for the rebels until Wave 2 hits. Right now the Rebellion has to count on two light ships and a medium. The first two are highly situational in their use and the last is really the only ship that can unexpectedly go toe-to-toe with both Imperial craft out now.

That's what I like about the Rebels. They can't and shouldn't go "toe-to-toe". As Mater Kenobi would say, "So, uncivilized."

My heart will always be with the Empire. I do like bringing order through force.

That being said, I am building fleets for both sides so home games with the kids are possible.

When the rebels fly star destroyers well talk.

Exactly, now in Wave 2 the Rebels will get their standard flag ship the MonCal star cruiser where the Imperials get their mainistray Imperial Class Star Destroyer in Wave 2. Now while the Rebel Assault Frigate mk. II does give the rebels a counterpart to the dominate Victory Class Star destroyer and the MonCal is the counterpart to the ISD the Imperials do have more power per capital ship model than the rebels.

I've been a fan of Star Wars since seeing Episode IV before it was Episode IV in the theatres in 1977, and I don't see anything iconic about the Space Guppy. I get that some of you younger types grew up playing video games with that fugly thing, but that doesn't make it iconic in any way. At most, it could be considered a cult favorite, but nothing can be truly iconic that isn't on film.

I switched to playing rebeles because of the amount of empire players.

Pretty much this. I decided to play Armada over X-wing because I wanted to play with the big ships. The Imperials HAVE all the really majestic big ships...but in my town there was a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio when it came to player chosen factions. So I threw my lot in with the Rebels to see what I could do.

Imperial's get the ships that scream Star Wars to me, so most of the people getting into the game from the Star Wars fandom angle are going to chose the side with the Star Destroyers.

Look left at your avatar, that ship is iconic IMHO and it is hardly symetrical, arrow shaped or anything else. :D
