I can't wait for the game to go up to 600 when they drop the executor. Then 10,000 when they paint a medicine ball gray for the Deathstar.
So pistols at dawn? ![]()

Honestly the design is brilliant because it bridges a gap between fighters and capitol ships. And it serves a purpose the imperials needed, killing fighters, while looking less phallic than a lancer. In truth it looks a lot like I imagined the lancer as a kid. And it'd the best compromise they could make for the X-Wing crowd and the polarizing Star Destroyer debates(I'd prefer and undersized victory class, but I'm not picky about scale.) What they came up with is unique enough to exist while not being a copout.
No body Expects the Raider Inquisition.I really want 2-3 Neb Bs for use on both sides. And even more Corvettes.
I dont really want multiple VSDs altough the cards are tempting.
Of course 2-3 fighter packs, but every thing else only once.
And then Come the ISDs
EXPECT THE RAIDER. Never the Raider. How can you actually buy the supercheap, unfitting invention from them?
Unless of course you mean Except for the Raider.
And the answer is it's design is surprisingly brilliant and fitting as an imperial ships.
Very nice.
But what is brilliant in making a mini-star Destroyer with TIE-Wings, I mean Really? On top of that it fits no role in the Imperial Navy. They have the lancer and withdrew the Corvette from front line service, because they became to weak, and then again they make a new ship thats just like the Corvette?
On top of that, why invent new ships at all, as long as there a lot of ships still out there?
Isnt the concept of of a mix between a fighter and a captiol not strange enough? And the Imperial Navy is not about Pizza slices in all sizes. And I also dont see anything phallic in every straight ship with a rounded end (or why that should matter). And again. The Emprie had the CR 90, Lancer and Tartan, why should i make another craft for the same mission parameters?
And again... why put TIE-Wings on it? It really looks like the laziest design ever.
They are actively avoiding factions sharing ship designs in the game which eliminates the CR90.
And the Lancer and Tartan share a crippling weakness, one which would make them very unlikely to see much use in Armada. They are very overspecialized. They can shred fighters and small transports like its going out of style but enemy capital ships show up and they become little more then targets, and the position they would need to be in to protect larger ships in the fleet from fighter strikes makes them even more vulnerable.

Firstly I just dislike that they avoid faction sharing ships. Especially in Armada it doesnt fit the setting (its a still a Civil War).
And second I think specialized ships open up more tactical poiisibilites (and chances for disaster). And while they dont do well against capitals, they are not useless or defenseless against them.
I got in to add to one core,
1 Victory
1 Nebulon B
1 CR90
2 AF M2
2 Gladiators
1 Rebel Fighters
2 Imperial Fighters
1 dice pack
I am considering a third Gladiator and a second Rebel Fighter. I can't quite decide if I'll want another core or not. I am mainly going to play Imperials for wave 1 but also want Rebels. So I thought this should be good.
I bought 2 of everything. However, the one thing that I think was the greatest benefit was the 2nd core set. Partially for the extra dice, partially for the extra ships and also for it being early, so I coudl play around with lists 2 months before Wave 1 came out. But now I'm also finding that the extra Box from the core set is proving to be valuable. Keeping my rebels in one box and my Imperials in another is helping keep me organized. At least until I find a better solution.
I'm going to buy enough models to give myself the most options possible for fleet construction. Spam fleets, balanced fleets, heavy fleets, I want the ability to build them all.
My signature below shows my initial commitment to Armada.
Wave 2 will see a minimum of 2 ISDs and a handfull of raiders. Most likely 1 Home One (because there was only 1) and 2 or 3 MC 30s. I'll probably get another Neb-B and CR90 too.
Big Fleets!
BIIIIIG Fleets!

Actually there were many MC80's at the battle of Endor. Independence, Liberty, Home One and Defiance.
Currently on track to get at least three of each small ship, two or three of each medium ship, most likely two of each large ship, and at least three of each fighter pack.
Currently I bought:
2 Starter
1 CR-90
1 Frigate
1 Assault Frigate
1 Victory
3 Gladiator
2 of both sets of fighters
I'm going to be buying to round out wave 1;
1 Assault Frigate
1 of both sets of fighters
Basically I don't think I'll ever fly more than 6 of any given specialty fighter but I could see myself flying Rhymer and 5 bombers or 6 a-wings or so on so I wanted one more set of each to round them out. The second Assault Frigate is to round out my options even if I really don't like the look of the ship.
Wave 2 is likely;
1 Imperial SD
1 Home One
3 MC-30
3 Raiders
1 Rogue/Villain pack
And I might pick up a second Imperial just for funsies but I doubt I'll do 2 MC-80's because I'm waiting for the liberty variant (wings).
Okay well I might as well post my purchase plan although I am going to wait for the Imperial Raider for X-wing before I dive deep into Armada.
As of now first I'll think I will be doubling up only on movie cannon ships. (CR-90, Nebulon-B, Imperial Star Destroyer, the winged mon Calmarie Star cruiser, Imperial Aces.)
So after core set I am definitely going to get the fighter packs. Then I'll likely wait for wave 2 when I get the 2 big ships and the 2 fighter pack. The non cannon ships I might work on but it greatly depends on my budget. I think I might wait till I get one of every pack before I start doubling up on anything but the first will be the ISD of course, then the Imperial Aces, then the 2 small ships for the Rebels. (Those that I haven't seen in the movies can stay rather obscure in my collection).

Indeed....
Every time they design a new ship, an angel loses it's wings. ![]()
currently I have 1 of everything.
Added and in transit, 1 more glad, 1 more af2, 1 of each fighter pack.
I may increase the amount of CR90's to play with a CR90 swarm for kicks, not sure if it's worth the investment yet.
So, is there a consensus for competitive play? In particular, have people been fielding 300pt lists with more than two squadrons of the same type from the wave 1 squadrons?
you're not getting **** for consensus until much much later ![]()
6 x-wings have been doing fine so far, though
As of now if you get one of each of the Armada products you will have for the rebels.
- 6 X-wing squadrons
- 2 Y-wing squadrons
- 2 A-wing squadrons
- 2 B-wing squadrons
- 2 Corellian corvetts
- 2 Nebulon B frigares
- 1 Assault Frigate Mk2
and for the Imperials you would have
- 8 TIE-fighter squadrons
- 2 TIE-bomber squadrons
- 2 TIE-Interceptor squadrons
- 2 TIE-Advanced squadrons
- 1 Gladiator class frigate
- 2 Victory class Star Destroyers.
With this set it seems unlikely you would need to buy a second product of anything even the core set. So my questions is well if anything you need 2 of what expansion (or core set) would you consider buying and why? Also if there is a need to buy a 2nd expansion then what expansions say would you sacrifice (assuming you can't afford both) to get a second expansion pack and why?
I have a second GSD
Bought an extra CR-90 without cards on eBay
Planning a seconds set of each of the fighters eventually.
Edited by DarthBadger6So far, I ordered 2 of each squadron, and 1 of each expansion pack. I'm thinking of getting a second Assault Frigate and Gladiator to make sure I have two of each small and mediums. In Wave 2, I'll get one of each ISD and Home One, and perhaps two of each of the MC30 and Raider. Oh, and at least one of the R&V packs.
I'm at 2x Core, 2x Gladiator, 2x Assault Frigate, 1x Nebulon, 1x Corvette, 1x Victory, 2x Rebel Fighter, 2x Imperial Fighter. Total fleet list:
3 Victory Star Destroyer
2 Gladiator Star Destroyer
16 Tie Fighter
4 Tie Advanced
4 Tie Interceptor
4 Tie Bomber
3 Nebulon B
3 Corvette
2 Assault Frigate
12 X-Wing
4 A-Wing
4 B-Wing
4 Y-Wing
Overall, I feel pretty good about the models I have available to draw 300 and 400 pt fleets from. I'm not certain that the 3rd Victory will see much use, but I already had 2 Cores, wanted the cards, and figured it would be fun to occasionally run 3 Vics at 400pts. The only thing I still feel like I could add would be a fourth Corvette, but honestly 3 Corvettes should probably suffice even in the nimblest Rebel list. When Wave 2 comes I'm getting 1 ISD, 1 MC80, 2 MC30s, 2 Raiders, and 2 Rogue and Villains packs. Then, I hope there is a long wait until Wave 3.
I'll probably double up fighter packs. Once wave 2 hits I'll likely buy two more Gladiators and around 5 or so total Raiders. I adore the idea of a rapid strike Imperial list, and will have a ton of fun exploring the options they're giving me. Also, I love both the Gladiator and Raider's visual styles. Distinct in their own way from the more "iconic" ships, but still very much conforming to the image of one massive war machine.
