General Weiss List Advice

By cleardave, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Good day,

I've finally got the opportunity to play in an Imperial Assault tournament, as this fledgling community slowly comes to life. Having only played Skirmish twice, but with an understanding (sort of) of the mechanics from my time playing Descent 2E and Doom, here is my rough draft of a list I want to run;

General Weiss

Elite Stormtrooper

2x Stormtrooper

Imperial Officer

Command Deck:

Endless Reserves (2pts)

Explosive Weaponry (1pt)

Focus (1pt)

Heavy Armor (1pt)

Strength in Numbers (1pt)

2x Reinforcements (2 @ 2pts=4pts)

Repair (2pts)

Maximum Firepower (3pts)

Take Initiative

Sit Tight

Rally

Expose Weakness

Recovery

Planning

So first off, I only have the one Core Set and one copy each of all the packs released so far. I'm not planning on investing in a second Core to get extra cards, and would consider an aftermarket sale, but I don't want to rely on that for the list building operation at this point, so any unit inclusion suggestions should stick to a one Core model.

My general battle plan would be to use Weiss' orders to get Stormtroopers to mobilize and rush up the board early to get into a decent position, then continue to use General's Orders to have them pop in and out of cover to take shots and hopefully not get shot back. The Officer and stick with Weiss to keep him advancing and still freeing up Weiss' other action to shoot.

The Command Deck was my bigger struggle, and I think I settled on a fair mix of cards that help replenish the Stormtroopers with Endless Reserves and Reinforcements. If I can keep Endless Reserves cycling without pitching it for a Strain hit, I might be able to pull off a late game attrition win.

Sit Tight is there to help with a high activation list, Take Initiative for a clutch turn where I need a first strike, Recovery/Repair to keep the General alive, using the Officer for Repair since they'll be close pals for the match. Expose Weakness and Maximum Firepower to combo for a solid hit against a Vader/Royal Guard Champion if I want Weiss to get his hands dirty. The only trick with Expose Weakness is that it needs to be an adjacent target, but if Weiss gets rushed by a tough unit, that's a good counter move. Also, if I'm reading the card right, I could use a Stormtrooper to set that up and activate the Pierce 3, then activate Weiss next and go for it.

Planning to mill the deck that much faster to fish for a key card like Endless Reserves or whatever else I might need for a solid combo in my hand.

That's all I've got. Analysis and suggestions would be great. I need to find opponents to practice on, but in the meantime, fine tuning the build at the theory level by getting input from more experienced players should help me make that Command Deck more efficient.

I would go elite trooper x2 Weiss and trooper only four acts but I like the elites a lot better.

Like I said, I only have the one Core and don't plan on getting another. I could possibly find a card for sale, but I don't want to rely on that as an option if it falls through.

Only need one core pm I have an extra Elite Trooper promo.

I just ran:

Weiss

Royal Guard
2x Stormtroopers
2x Imperial Officers

Couldn't tell you the cards off the top of my head, will post those later.

I've only played two games with them, and lost the second one because I decided to do something stupid but funny (Decided to use To The Limit to let Weiss take 3 Move Actions, combined with Overrun, in an attempt to trample all of my opponents units. I ended up doing it a turn too late to achieve my goal, but it was still funny)

I really like the group. Being able to potentially block 7 damage (With a Royal Guard next to Weiss) is just awesome. My opponent rolled 9 damage with a focused Han, and I pulled off the 7 block, and it felt great.

I've really grown to like Massive for more than just the fact that figures don't block LOS, but also because I can use the guards to have Weiss end movement on a tile with a figure in it, to push them closer. Basically free movement for multiple figures.
