Fury of the Tempest - Gauntlets question

By AndrewMM, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I hope I get a quick answer, as we are playing this in a few hours...

When heroes have the relic on 2nd encinter, they can use it, so they can "steal" surges to OL and keep them on the card as fatigue tokens. What happens if OL manage to take the relic to Splig, and later heroes retrieve it again? Does the card mantain the fatigue tokens, so they can still use them, as if they never lost the card?

I know there is no time for an official response, but some opinions would be very helpful.

Thanks.

I started writing "no", but then it occurred to me that the workman's ring could be really abused if the fatigue tokens could be discarded from it. Why not just assume the gauntlets stay "charged"?

Thematically sounds right, so I think I'll go that way if it happnes.

And another question I forgot to ask before, I think. What if I give a relic to Splig at the beginning of the quest, and then he receives later the Gauntlets? Do I have to choose, or can he use both relics?

It should cover that in the quest rules if I recall correctly. I want to say he cannot wield a relic, but I don't remember.

It does not... At least on my Quest Guide.

I guess I'll discuss with my heroes to reach an agreement.

Thanks, Zaltyre.

I found it. He cannot wield the gauntlets in this quest. The only relic he could wield is another.

By the way, I'm just basing that off the fact that the dawnblade token works that way- you get "the dawnblade," but you can't use the actual relic. I don't have any information that says "Fury of the Tempest" is different.

In the case of that thread, if you played that way, I'd have no idea what you would do about an additional relic, since there is no text telling you to ignore the one relic limit.

Ok, so we did it this way:

-Splig can wield any relic at the beginning of the quest, and he can use it on both encounters until he is defeated the first time (no doubt he was defeated MANY times on encounter 1)

-Splig can wield the Gauntlets as long he lost the control of the previous relic (he was defeated before, no matter the encounter), and he can use them only until he is defeated the first time after he gains control of the relic.

Anyway, after all, I won!! Encounter 1 was a stalemate, until I could jump over the hero blockage thanks to the rule "place it on the closest empty space" when standing up Splig. Heroes could search all the tokens, but I was loaded of OL cards (11-12 on hand, I think) for encounter 2. On this 2nd encounter, each side got a blue token, and Splig was hidden behind a red Elemental on the other side of the Exit corridor, until heroes came to kill them all. My Goblins did an excellent turn killing Arvel (who was carrying the token), and Splig could run to take the Gauntlets. Heroes couldn't kill him on that turn (to many goblins blocking spaces, and to much fatigue on them), so he managed to reach the other side of the corridor and block the way with both Elementals. Another unsuccesful turn for the heroes, and quest won by OL.

BTW, just a funny thing that happened. I attacked Reynhart with my Master Goblin, and he was nearly dead. No surges, so I used Mental Error. Reynhart test Knowledge (he has 1), and passes (1 shield). I use Befuddle, so now I am "sure" he won't pass again... and he rolls 0 shields!!! I was stunned for a while, and heroes rolled on the floor (literally) laughing...
