The one thing I hate most in this game ATM...

By markcsoul, in X-Wing

I saw a Y-wing kill Corron with R2-D2. It is called Ion and R2-D2 doesn't work when it has an ion token on it.

Actually, R2-D2 does work when you are suffering the effects of an Ion token. It's in the FAQ.

I fly Corran all the time. I think his one bad effect on the meta is that he makes other 3-ship rebels less viable. Once on of them dies it's basically impossible to kill him.

On the other hand Corran himself makes 3-ship rebels a lot more viable if he's part of it.

I think you may be confusing R2-D2 with R2 Astromech. Can you quote a page number?

This. I posted too early in the morning. Forgive me.

I don't know of anything in the FAQ that would refute this but tech R2D2 would still work but you couldn't activate him unless you had an ability that would make a white manuever a green one.

Only if you somehow make the white forward 1 green.

No an honourable man would commit seppuku to atone for such shame!

Nien nunb turns ion maneuvers green. A little trick I learned flying HWKs back in the day.

It makes PTL somewhat viable for the ship, especially if you're fighting any kind of control. I typically paired Jan with Keyan for massive damage.

You have forgotten the face of your father.

Well somebody had to make a "sky is falling" thread at somepoint I guess. It wouldn't be the forums without one every week.

Corran Horn.

You either learn to block him, outfly him, or burn him down with ships/upgrades/ability combos - or you lose.

Simple.

The same could be said for most of the "ace" pilots right now.

Quite fitting thematically, imho.

"Die, corran! You don't belong in this game!"

"It was not by my hand that I was once again given shields. I was fixed by R2, who wished to give ME shields back."

"Shields back!? You negate my damage and make me so sad!"

"your words are as empty as your soul. squadrons ill need an ace such as you!"

"What is a ship!?" *R2-d2 beep* "A miserable little pile of green dice! But enough talk, I'll double-tap you!"

I think Corran is at least the most infuriating ship. It feels real bad when you get damage through and regens for an extended period of time.

I just think it is more "mean" haha. Enemy rolls 100 evades? Pretty annoying. Enemy rolls 100 evades and regens the minimal shots that got through? That's infuriating! Haha.

But I digress, I don't have a problem with it, and more ENJOY what he can do, haha.

turrets exist and corran at least has to give up positioning and shooting (arced) advantage to enable his uber defenses

argument invalid :P

Fat Han is still worse than Corran. Auto thrusters don't help every ship out there, and he's still a huge pain for many lists. I'd rather face double Corrans over fat Han.

What is ATM?

At the moment.

Best post on the forums. You can all go home now.

Shut it down.

You should have shot Corran first instead of my A-Wings. Waiting until you were down to one ship to start attacking Corran is a bad way to beat him.

What is ATM?

It's this really lame arcade that you find at banks. All it does is tell you that wave 7 funds are not available.

Haha, true point! What is perceived as worse is a matter of opinion I suppose. It surely just grinds my gears when I put all that work into killing a ship, only for it to come back to full life! Soontir/Whisper rolling godlike amount of evades with no actions is also up there as "really annoying".

Kill it dead then, not 'mostly dead'.

The emphasis on "competitive" lists and the Meta.

Love the game... lots of fun. Though better than most points-based, tournament-style games out there, I am seeing signs of "power creep" and that does not excite me in the least.

Coming from a background of a historical wargamer, I guess I just accept that some ships will be better than others... faster, more maneuverable, more cost-effective, etc... Multiple ships will fill the same roles in a faction's forces, etc... That is just the way it is. So I don't really have a problem with it. That, actually, is what makes it interesting and challenging... imbalance. The whole concept of "balance" and "fair fight" with evenly matched forces (which almost never occurs historically) is what I see as a weakness and limiting factor of the game, but that is really about players, play style and lack of imagination. So far, "well done, FFG" but I'm not sure about the future.

What signs would those be?

Sorry, I chose my words poorly. The "power creep" I was referring to is not the standard use of the term. I was referring to ...

1. a trend for one game innovation to have unexpected consequences requiring an eventual "fix" that in turn has some unintended consequences that need fixing, etc..., etc..., etc... Examples: Cloaking rules (though I like the fix), "Fat Han"; Auto Thrusters...

2. failure to actually "fix" ordnance... yet... as far as I can tell.

I do not mean "power creep" in the conventional sense, as I readily accept that, per the "historical" example, later designs tend to be better than earlier designs when it comes to military hardware, so I am not really bitching about new XWM ships being superior to earlier designs. I am bitching about how most of our XWM games would be highly unlikely in universe "historical" match ups because they are unnaturally "even/fair" engagements and there is rarely any context to the fight, no "why" and no consequences of victory or failure, no reward for" running away to fight another day" vs pointless fighting to the death in the ubiquitous asteroid field. Space is BIG, yet we fight in a "shoe box" filled with rocks.

I guess my real ***** is not about the game but what we tend to do with it and how we tend to demonstrate a lack of imagination on a whole, for the sake of a "competitive" game.

Just sayin'

Who would play X-wing if it was accurate about the average engagement? Sounds pretty boring to me.

Round 1-37: The 3 A-wings all pull a 5-straight and boost.

Round 38: The three A-wings scan and destroy an unattended, unarmed comm relay.

Round 38-90: The A-wings leave.
