The one thing I hate most in this game ATM...

By markcsoul, in X-Wing

More than Fat Han

More than Super Dash

More than Phantoms

More than PTL/AT Fel

Etc

Is E-wings, mainly Corran Horn, with R2 freaking D2.

I don't know how many games I've been burned because of that combo. I've lost going for him first, and lost going for him last. R2-D2 just gets so much use with him. When you add in FCS, PTL, and double tap, it's just so annoying.

It's probably the best example of an upgrade that worked fine in previous waves (on x & y wings), then got borderline OP with newer waves (e-wings). The ship has more green moves, more agility, and equal or better shields than the previous two ships.

Yea yea yea I know focus fire him early. And I have killed him before, but even when I win it's always an aggravating game for me.

Swarms melt Corran. Even mini swarms. Corran excels against two ship squads. It is actually pretty easy to almost or completely destroy Corran in 1 round of combat.

I had issues with him myself when my buddy started using him. Once I learned the secret of defeating him, I had no fear of the Jedi.

Are you saying its OP? Or just aggravating?

Rebels are aggravating. Hahaha. I love my decimators. I hate Falcons and outriders and r2d2 and c3po

You should have shot Corran first instead of my A-Wings. Waiting until you were down to one ship to start attacking Corran is a bad way to beat him.

If he has fcs just rough him up one round and block the next. If you really want to nuke him bring Vader crew and gunner.

It's aggravating and borderline OP, because of the fact I said that the upgrade worked well for the ships available at the time of release, but now it can be taken on a superior ship, which is why it I find it near OP.

In my experience, there is no such thing as op with this game.

Corran is good and can definitely weather a couple attacks before going down so he can handle 2-3 ship squads quite easily. I've found a few things in fighting a R2-D2 Corran Horn.

Kill him first. Never leave him for last. I learned this well when I took a relatively undamaged Dash Rendar against Corran at the end of a match and got wrecked.

Attack him with everything. Even if you only knock off two shields, that's going to put some fear into your opponent. 5 hitpoints is still just the same amount as a HWK or X-Wing. He only has so many tokens to use for defense, after a couple attacks you'll get more damage through.

I usually go after Corran first.

It's pretty easy to block him if he's running FCS + PtL, and like most people have said, he melts under concentrated fire.

Regeneration is always annoying in pretty much every game.

The main thing to keep in mind is that, once you start focusing him down, you have to keep focusing him down. Let him regen as few shields as possible.

I don't find Corran particularly aggravating. He has (relatively easily) exploitable weaknesses in swarms and highly-maneuverable ships, unlike a lot of other builds out there.

R2-d2 Es are not a problem if you have enough damage sources

it is a problem if you're using a 2 ship build with only 2 attacks to throw

and that makes them very much okay :)

yeah. i find corran ridiculously easy to kill. esp if they spend focus on attack or they have 3 attacks coming their way.

or heck , even a good 4dice lob from Chiraneau or something will off Corran.

I saw a Y-wing kill Corron with R2-D2. It is called Ion and R2-D2 doesn't work when it has an ion token on it.

The one thing I hate the most in this game is all the complaining. Sure some ships are frustrating. But the best way to deal with those types of situations in a competitive aspect is to learn the tactics. Take turns with your play group playing those lists, and develop effective and personal ways to beat them.

Practice, especially in this meta, is the strongest upgrade you can bring to the table against any list.

GR-75 works. Crush him. Completely flatten him, instakill. Pick up the GR-75 and bash the E-wing to plastic pulp with it.

The greens fail him sooner or later.

He only has so many tokens to use for defense[...]

...and none of them work when Carnor Jax is floating around. This has generally been my solution.

That, and the fact that his best greens are banks. If he's tanking with tokens, his maneuverability plummets. Get him going in one direction, get behind him, and stay glued to his six. Make him turn to face you and lose his tokens, or he can keep using greens and you can keep chipping away without return fire.

I could see two ship builds struggling to down him but you go swarm or bbbbz he`ll pop pretty fast it's a matter of taking the right tools for the job.

The emphasis on "competitive" lists and the Meta.

Love the game... lots of fun. Though better than most points-based, tournament-style games out there, I am seeing signs of "power creep" and that does not excite me in the least.

Coming from a background of a historical wargamer, I guess I just accept that some ships will be better than others... faster, more maneuverable, more cost-effective, etc... Multiple ships will fill the same roles in a faction's forces, etc... That is just the way it is. So I don't really have a problem with it. That, actually, is what makes it interesting and challenging... imbalance. The whole concept of "balance" and "fair fight" with evenly matched forces (which almost never occurs historically) is what I see as a weakness and limiting factor of the game, but that is really about players, play style and lack of imagination. So far, "well done, FFG" but I'm not sure about the future.

All Eldar bikes being able to mount heavy weapons is powercreep, walkers with D weapons is powercreep, a ship having the option to use a unique card is not.

It's strong only if your going for certain two ship builds, you take brobots they'll ruin corrans day as they both blast away with HLC, they miss they re-roll with a target lock from FCS his three dice will fail at some point.

He can be a tough sod I'll give you that but he ain't even close to being OP.

He's almost half a 100 point squad with R2D2 PTL and FCS

Really, if he is a huge problem for you then that tells me you are likely running 2 - 3 ship squads and that usually translates to fat turrets (fat Huts)

There fore I have no sympathy for you

What signs would those be?

Actually, R2-D2 does work when you are suffering the effects of an Ion token. It's in the FAQ.

I think you may be confusing R2-D2 with R2 Astromech. Can you quote a page number?
