No hull left ship out?

By xvc, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi all,

I have a theoretical question: lets say B-wing - undammaged, get's hit by 3 proton bombs - does it die?

thanks

Yes.

A ship dies when the number of damage cards (face up or down) is equal to the hull value of the ship. How many shields it has left doesn't matter.

Also, once a ship has damage cards equal to it's hull value its destruction is inevitable, even if it has less damage than its hull value when it is destroyed.

Example:

Fett is fighting Cracken and Luke. Fett has initiative, Luke has R5-D8 equiped and has already lost his shields.

1. Fett attacks Luke and there are three uncanceled hit results.

2. Luke is dealt 3 facedown damage cards. This equals his hull value. Due to the simultaneous fire rule, Luke is not destroyed until after his turn to attack.

3. Cracken attacks Fett. This allows him to give an action to Luke.

4. Using his free action, Luke activates R5-D8 and rolls an Evade. Luke discards one of his face down damage cards.

5. Luke attacks.

6. Luke is destroyed while having one less damage card than his hull value.

Good call on the rules, WWHSD, but that's a hell of a corner case. (c:

Well you need a hull to house the shield generator so yeah if the ship goes boom the number of shields left is irrelevant.

Always amusing to see "Whisper" or Corran Horn, at full health, get caught with a Proton Bomb and suffer a Direct HIt, insta-murdering them.
