Painted A wings, Y wings, and B wings

By JBar, in Star Wars: Armada

I wanted to post these for people who need some simple ideas on how to paint their rebel fighters. I used Games Workshop Dheneb Stone for the base color except for the B-wings which used Celestra Grey.

A wings: I used Privateer Press Skorne Red for the red paint. I'm very happy with how they turned out. These were the most fun to paint.

Y wings: To me, Y-wings look more worn out and battle damaged than other squadrons do so I used a light black wash with grey highlights in the middle section. Also, the yellow I had was too bright so I mixed it with a little bit of tan so they don't look factory new. Star Wars is gritty after all.

B wings: These were the most difficult to figure out how to paint. In the movies, they just look grey so that's what I did with them. I added some dark blue stripes on them but I might need some inspiration ideas to make the B-wings stand out more.

Kudos!

Very simple, yet very effective. I wasn't planning on painting all of these... but now I don't know. I might have to at least try.

Thanks for the photos.

I would highly recommend painting them. Most miniatures that I buy can takes weeks to assemble and paint. These literally took me just this morning to get half of them done. When it comes to fine details on squadrons, I think simple is better. That way they all look iconic without too much paint in the way. People can say, "Oh look, Gold Squadron, cool!" instead of saying, "That's just a big glob of paint with rainbow colors everywhere." Plus, these things are small anyway, so you don't need to worry about every detail.

Very nice. I have started cleaning my imperial fighters, i got 24/66 done last night. Hoping to repaint the Star Destroyers and my TIEs by next Wednesday's gaming night.

The biggest reason why I decided to collect rebel ships is that I couldn't stand painting so many tie fighters. I've painted enough swarm armies for different games. I'd rather paint fewer rebel squadrons with more variety. Good luck on your endeavor. They'll look great all finished!

Airbrush is the only reason im doing it. lol

But ya it can be daunting. Ive painted flames of war before and you think its harder because of the scale but its actually easier.

I love your Awings! Everything else is also good, but I feel like you really nailed the A Wing

Good work, like it. I have to only do 200+ more to catch up lol.
