Finally Conceding to the Meta

By cubby09, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So i usually try to steer clear of the meta of my LGS. It seems however, that the meta has one glaring omission...Deci+Fel. there seems to be a lot of dual IGs (for good reason) and fel mini swarm or fel whisper builds. No fat lady and soontir though. Ive never really jumped on to the meta band wagon but im willing to give it a go. Im sold on the following being my Soontir loadout but beseech you for help with the deci build as i dont have a lot of experience with it. thanks!

this loadout is set: Fel+title+autothrusters+targeting computer+PTL (dont want stealth, shield, or hull)

Thinking of: The Admiral+predator+seismic charge+vader+gunner+rebel captive+EU

Eu for added mobility and arc dodgin. vader because...well its vader and hes awesome against things like ints. Rebel captive because this ship build will be the target, and gunner to take advantage of the pilot ability

I really like RAC Pred+Gunner+Isard+Rebel Captive+EU.

That build doesn't care if it gets actions or not, so take the three largest debris with it so maybe you can double stress ships with RC and debris. Early on, don't be afraid to crash though debris to surprise your opponent with an unexpected move.

As I've been told before, Isard is nearly an auto include on RAC. Once you've taken some damage arc dodge as much as possible and try to get more turns of evade tokens, at this point try to avoid getting stressed.

Just be aggressive at first versus ships with Autothrusters and get some decent front arc shots off so they aren't such a PITA later, don't be afraid to ram versus two ship builds with RAC to avoid concentrated fire, and if you face panic attack or 4bz type builds; keep your options open and make your opponent commit to a direction before you do so you can avoid multiple arcs. If you face Vader crew on a lambda or decimator, make that ship your primary target.

I'd rather run Isard then Vader. With Gunner you'll likely be hitting even the squirmiest targets. Isard can really be key when getting down to 1 on 1 scenarios. If you are up against another Deci with Isard, good luck.

But Gunner + Vader ensures a minimum of 2 damage to every ship. That's potentially 1 rounding Fel. And it kills Whisper and Tycho/Jake in 2 rounds. Guaranteed. It doesn't matter if they have stealth device or AT or 800 tokens. 4 damage on the Decimator is approx "16 points," while the loss of the folks mentioned above are all in the 30-40 range (with the potential exception of Jake). Seems like point wise it's a great trade off. However, to each his own as to whether it's worth the opportunity cost of the Crew slot. But seeing as arc dodgers have now become rather annoying for turrets (with the inclusion of AT), I think it's a good idea.

Vader and Rebel Captive actually both help with some of the same ships. If you want to beat them take captive. If you want to dive in and nuke their ace early take Vader.

If you can fly Fel well then you shouldn't need Vader.

if i go up against Brobots, should I vader the shields or wait until shields are down? I was thinking if i wait i may not get a chance to vader

Vader should only be used when necessary.

No sense taking two dmg for a shield.

Especially against duel aggressor. For a ship with 0 agility you want to make the two dmg really worth it

However if you have corran down to one hull, vader him before he limps away and tries to come back to you with full shields.

Your doing two dmg to your own ship, so it's best to pick your moments.

You may go three games never use vader, but then come across fel.

Attack, miss, vader, attack again, hit, vader, there fel dead.

Vader just paid off

ran the OP yesterday. first was against deci fel but he had ysard. vader proved to be the difference. i charged right at him ith the admiral and flew very aggressively. His stealth devise on fel hurt him by allowing my gunner to pop and i put two vaders in him. having done that my shields were stripped and he layed an additional three damage on me. my fel cleaned up what was left of his fel and suffered no damage. His admiral then put three more damage in to me leaving with 6 hull. i felt a bit exposed at this point. i flew a bit more cautiously at this point. using engine upgrade to stay at range three. after four rounds of firing my deci was gone and his had 7 hull left. i was able to win with 2 hull left on fel.

second game was against super Jake and 3Xblue+fcs. i was a little concerned over this list. round one of combat. i got one hit on jake at long range from both fel admiral. i decided to vader since jake is squishy and nimble. he had one hull. his b's rolled poorly and only did a total of three damage but now had TL on the admiral. he forgot about my seismic charge and positioned himself that my bomb took out jake. that was his only truly poor decision of the match. it ended up with fel against a shield-less blue. which was easy to take care of

LESSONS LEARNED: use vader sparingly. blitz priority targets in a 2 or three ship build. 66 points in one ship is scary both to go against but more to fly...once its gone ive got some ground to make up
