Zarek and Cylons on New Caprica

By Rough2, in Battlestar Galactica

So my group finally made it to New Caprica for the first time tonight, and we had a little question arise.

Five players...

Two humans happened to get unlucky with crisis cards and were thrown into detention back to back...

Zarek, our last human running free, is trying to prepare ships for jump.

Zarek's bad stuff reads "You may not activate locations occupied by other characters"

We took this to include the revealed cylons as well, so Cavil just sat on Zarek's location while the other one just activated occupation forces repeatedly, and the two humans in detention continued to fail at escaping.

I couldn't find anything in the FAQ / Rules about the term "characters" referring to one side or the other, so we just coupled it in with the ruling for "players"

Any clarification would be sweet action.

You should use the "Rules Questions" link at the bottom of the page. It's tiny, so it's hard to see, but FFG is really good at answering these sorts of questions. I've actually had Corey Konieczka answer a couple of them, can't get much more authoritative than that!

Thematically, a revealed Cylon is unlikely to care that Zarek is a Convicted Criminal, so I'd think it would only apply to human players/infiltrating Cylon Leaders.

Yeah, Zarek's card was obviously written before there were non-human characters to share a space with. I'd say non-infiltrating Cylons don't count.

As far as the game goes at the moment, they do. Just like Leoben not being able to move somewhere voluntarily that's already occupied, but keep in mind that Zarek's normal ability could make it a bit easier to get out of Detention.

That seems like just about everything went wrong for you at once.

But yah, that is the way it would seem to work unless there is an errata released that says otherwise.

But as the poster above said, Zarek can make getting out of Detention much easier if he uses Friends in Low Places.

Yeah it was pretty nasty. EVERYTHING seemed to be going wrong for the humans in that game.... Dice rolls, destiny draws, you name it. I'm surprised we made it to sleeper phase, let alone NC.

One of the other humans did get out of prison pretty quickly thanks to Zarek, but the other one was sunk because the destiny deck wasn't giving any love.

And actually, I think Zarek ended up being sent to detention on the turn that human got out.. thanks to his crisis card.

I ended up asking the devs for a bit of clarification after I found the rules question link (props to the reply in the thread for showing me where it was) so we'll see what the official stance is.

It just seems that his hands were tied a bit too much, since everything else was going wrong at the same time.

what is the answer here? Do Cylons block Zarek from activating locations on NC?

Bump. I'm curious about the answer, if one was given.

You'll find the answer on page 4 of the Official Pegasus Expansion rules questions thread: Cylons block Zarek's ability on New Caprica

Wow...Zarek sucks on NC. I guess he should have thrown EOs to his friends in detention to allow them chances to break out.

Yes, while Zarek's disadvantage can be taken advantage of by the Cylons moving to where he is, you could be using his "Friends in Low Places" ability as stated above to help other players escape detention and you could be blowing up passing Occupation Forces too.

The cylons block Zarek.

Characters = players (so even revealed cylons / cylon leader)
