Could a "0" command value be a thing?

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

Imagine if a cheaper ship came out that had values of Zero. Naturally a zero squadron value would simply remove the ability for you to effectively resolve a squadron command, and likewise with engineering. But command. Imagine if a ship had a command value of zero? That would be significantly crippling for a ship. Not only would it not get a command dial, but it wouldn't be able to house tokens either, for example as a result of Tarkin.

Curious how much of a point value difference it would make. IE if a 50 point ship has a command value of 1, how much lower would it's points fall if it had that same value removed? 5? 10?

This is unlikely to happen as it would prevent that ship from ever changing speed. While it is possible to temporarily get ships with effectively 0 command through the use of critical effects, I do not foresee there ever being a 0-Command vessel.

Yep, too crippling to the main mechanics of the game.

I don't know about 0 command. And Zero Squadron is the same as 1 squadron because the token still lets you command one squadron. But I can see 0 Engineering on some ships.

I could see ship that when you deploy it, you set it's speed and it is locked in for the whole game. Would certainly be wierd.

Can't have 1 squadron token if your command value is zero. Max tokens equal to your command value.

It's almost the same - you can still convert the Squadron dial into a token to activate one squadron, but that may force you to discard another token if you exceed the amount allowed by your command value. It's a subtle difference, but it's certainly there.

But you wouldn't have a dial in the first place

They're called "Squadrons" at the moment. Honestly, a non-squadron ship that had 0 Command, 0 Squadron, and 0 Engineering sounds like one of the most boring places they could take the game's design. The command dials are a huge part of what this game is. The only thing that would sort of fit this design is something like a cruise missile - and that would be handled much better with new rules than taking the current ship rules and gutting them.

would only be a thing if we introduced static defenses...in spaaaaaaccccccceeeeeee~

No, I think he means 0 Squadron, and a command value higher than 0.

Fireships could have a command rating of zero. The crew steer the ship towards the target and then abandon it before it hits and does damage equal to it's speed.

Or damage equal to it's speed plus remaining hull??????

Come to think of it, if your command value was zero, it wouldn't matter what your other values were, since you could never use them.

Which is why I don't see it happening. The inability to change speed is too much, unless it only could move 1. But if it's that small it must be a behemoth, and thus should have a high command value.

Beyond that what would a Zero Command Value represent?

From what Ibsee now it's a size things. Bigger ships have slower response rates but can handle a larger energy load(more tokes) while smaller ships respond faster but hold a smaller energy load.

0 Command implies it's a floating hulk that no commands are moving through. So some kind of automated unmoving gun platform. I don't think anyone wants those in a competative situation, as they seem kind of obnoxious. Players like motion.
