Dual Lambdas Log

By CaptainSebastian, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hey all!

I said I was going to be doing more exploration on dual lambda build and making them work with the current 'meta.' However, finals came up and I could not keep up.

I am going to keep a log as I continue to explore. I should have two reports up in the next hour and I'll be playing again tonight using this post as my log.

Also, I am going to try to find someway of recording my battles if possible....still working on this..

So last week I used this (not recordered yet). I will have to warn that this is a bit vague because of how long ago it was and finals this week (jelly brain).

Omnicron (Engine upgrade, advanced sensors, intelligence agent, rebel captive) - Zoom shuttle

Omnicron (Engine upgrade, FCS, gunner - Buzzsaw

Soontir (title, shield upgrade, push the limit, auto thrusters)

This was suggested by @The_Brown_Bomber (https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/161400-dual-lambdasround-2/#entry1551902)

I played against the following

Delta Squadron (HLC)

Delta Squadron (HLC)

Captain Jonus (an unknown upgrade)

My goal in this battle is to destroy Captain Jonus to remove his bonus. I figured doing this would reduce the damage significantly. I may loose a lambda in the process but I hoped to deal with at least one of the deltas before the other would die.

He deployed his ships to the corner on my left in a defenders in front with Jonus in the middle back row. I had my buzzsaw shuttle on the left corner position facing the opposite corner (45 degree angle). The zoom shuttle was on the opposite corner similar to the buzzsaw with soonthir fel in the middle-ish.

The buzzsaw shuttle headed straight for my right corner before turning to face his squad with my other lambda. Soonthir zoomed forward and did an flanking maneuver taking out half of Jonus. The Zoomshuttle destroyed the rest of him that same turn. However, I lost half of the buzz saw (down to 4 hull) that round from his squad fully firing.

I went to road block by choosing both of my shuttles to do a zero move that turn. Unfortunately, I forgotten about the deltas white k-turn (first time fighting them) and lost the buzzsaw with soontir fel dropped to 1 hull (lots of blanks were rolled).

The other lambda died as well two turns later but he had lost a delta to soontir fel. The rest of the battle took 45 minutes as I would strip off a hit point here or that or run off when things weren't favorable. In the end, we both wanted to play another game so I accepted a HLC to the face.

Pros: I actually could of won this if we wanted to spend more time on it. Soontir was way more maneuverable and the pilot skill of 9 was proving its worth. I chose to end it just to save time. So..pseudo-win? Maybe? The game lasted for an hour and a half and by that point we just ended it.

The buzzsaw works well especially with the zero move. I moved up just enough to get a round of shooting followed by a second when he got closer. Engine upgrade allowed me to get out of there with the choice of a green maneuver.

The zoom shuttle was nice for quick re-positioning. The addition of a rebel captive was way useful (delta had 3 stress tokens at one point) which limited his movement. I cannot stress how important intelligence agent is. It is my number one used card and I always include at least one in my squadron. It allows me to get out of arc of at least one ship who has a higher pilot skills. Also, a tactic I like to use with it is to select the zero move with the shuttle, look at a ships dial that is near by, then use advanced sensors to boost to that position. It is not always useful but it does give me the opportunity to stop actions/prevent shooting to let the buzzsaw shoot/get out of the way. Soontir benefits from ships not having actions as well.

Cons: The delta white k-turn makes it really hard to cause bumping. Even if I bump, the next turn they are right behind me with a target lock with a long ranged HLC. I had to learn quickly to just keep moving (unless I was in good firing position). Another concern is how much damage/evade they have. It takes a long time to get them down with my build as I had to rely on soontir fel to take them out. I think it was the right call to take out Jonus so the lambdas would live longer. But I also see that if I took out the delta first I may have less deltas on my rear.

(No recording yet.)

So, I had an issue again with remembering everything so this will just be short and sweet (and sweet it was!).

The list I used was the same as the last post. My opponents was roughly:

N'Dru Shuhlak (Dead man's switch, lone wolf)

IG88-C (Veteran Instincts, Accuracy Corrector, Flecheette Cannon, something else...)

Guri (Virgo, something else...)

I do not remember all of it (a week ago with finals in between then and now). But I do not think they had much of an effect.

I had the same deployment as the last battle report (buzzsaw on left corner facing 45 degrees, zoom shuttle on right corner facing 45 degrees, and soontir middle-ish). He deployed N'dru on the right corner facing the zoom shuttle. In the middle-right was the IG88-C and the middle-left had Guri

My goal was to take out one ship. With Guri and IG88-C being maneuverable if I could take out one of his three ships in the first pass I could try to kill him by outnumbering him (not a solid plan I know).

I collapsed onto the right side to bring all my firepower to bare on one unlucky ship. On the first pass I almost took out N'Dru (1 hull) but I did end up heavily damaging the IG88-C. The Zoom shuttle road blocked causing N'Dru and IG88 to crash. The buzz saw took out N'Dru and Soontir heavily damaged Guri. I did a 1 move forward with the zoom shuttle to blook IG88-C (couldn't get over his base so I didn't move) which caused him to be stuck again. Between soontir fel and the buzz saw I took out the IG88-C in two turns. From here on out, both of my shuttles spread out to opposite parts of the board then came back in in figure-8 style of movement. This allowed each of them to cover each other and provide fire power. Soontir did the damage to Guri but it was the zoom shuttle that did the killing blow.

100-0 victory (both shuttles had 2 hull left. Soontir had 2 hull left).

Pros: I couldn't believe it worked out. Total victory. Again, intelligence agent worked really well. I knew which shuttle to block the one ship I needed. It again also worked well by having the zoom shuttle choosing a zero move, looking at a ships dial, then choosing to boost with advanced sensors into the best spot. MVP of the match was the Buzzsaw stripping evade/focus tokens only to add punishment with gunner followed up by the zoom shuttle.

Cons: I had some poor maneuvering when I collapse with soontir fel. By the second turn, I had accidentally sandwich him near the right side of the play mat with ships blocking his movement. I had to do some tricky maneuvering to get him out but that boost+barrel roll meant he only had a focus to survive on. This was where he had taken his two damage of the game.

Next report I will see if I can get a camera in. I am fairly new to this gaming group so I am unsure what they are comfortable with. Until next time.
