new versions of old pilots?

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

If I hear that bloody fallacy of Steele belonging in a Defender one more time....

Well considering R7-T1 is Luke's E-wing droid, I'm not surprised they originally considered him.

It also explains why there is no Whistler.

I've often thought about a variant of Xwing where you'd have 2 cards per ship:

  1. The Ship
  2. The Pilot

Basically the Ship card would assign what dial, model, available upgrades, etc., and the pilot would bring the Pilot Skill, whether or not they have an EPT, and the ability.

There'd be a lot less diversity in pilot abilities since every ability would have to be considered for every ship, not to mention it would have an idiotic number of combinations as far as list building goes. Though it would still be a fun concept, nonetheless!

Han Solo and the imperial shuttle? ;)

Han Solo never flew a Lambda Shuttle in the OT

Shuttle Tyderium says "hi" as it flies casually by.

His point was that it was Chewie who flew the Tyderium in Jedi, not Han.

Indeed chewie is flying the shuttle.

Heck if you really wanna get technical, Leia flew the Falcon half of time while Han and Chewie tried to fix the blasted hyperdrive. So when are we getting a YT-1300 Aces Pack with the Leia Pilot Card? PS 6, Ability: when you get a stress token assign 4 evade tokens to your ship due to "Trembling."

But in all seriousness, there are several unique names in the game already that show up on more than 1 card - Luke and Vader to name a few - so I don't think its a stretch to think we may see pilots in other ships in the near future. I just hope they don't go crazy and have someone in half a dozen ships. The trick is balancing the pilot to both ships so both versions have a useful niche.

I'm dimly recalling that it was the Jodocast interview with Alex Davey where he implies that this is unlikely to happen. He did say that there was nothing wrong with creating your own pilot cards for casual play so long as you were fair with the point cost.

Corran and Tycho seem the most out of place and I'd welcome their inclusion into the game as X-wing pilots.

We don't need pilot repeats...there are still a great many characters that have yet do be explored and would be a limiting factor for the game.

For some starfighters perhaps, but there's a risk of really dregging up the bottom of the barrel.

Maarek belongs in a defender.

He preferred the Avenger over the Defender.

Maarek Stele.

PS7

Ability: At the end phase, inspect target shipping container within range 1. If the container has 'contraband', score 10 victory points. SECRET OBJECTIVE COMPLETE... Alpha... One. GOOD JOB!

If I recall correctly, it was along the lines of they didn't see any reason to do it. Mechanically, all the name does is prevent 2 particular pilots from being included in the same squad, limiting build options. If they have a choice between allowing a build option or preventing it, and it makes no other difference to the game, they don't see any reason to impose the limit.

Come on Tycho is a Traitor and a known spy if anything he should be in a Headhunter.

They could create pilots a la whisper or echo for those ships then...

I take it you haven't read all the X-wing books?

Maarek belongs in a Defender

Maarek belongs in a Defender

... then he would probably sport a Mangler:

Maarek in a Defender (36) + Mangler (4) = 40 Points

But I think hes doing quite well now in the new Advanced.

How true :)

I just want to see Porkins where he belongs, in a Y-wing.

edit: Now that I think about it, Porkins actually would be pretty great in a Y-Wing. Lots of hull to absorb his ability, a need for stress removal, and an EPT slot to boot!

I 100% agree the sexist pigs that make up the rebellion need more female pilots, sadly those male chauvinist tools of the patriarchy are determined to keep women down.

Join the empire where women are valued for their skills and pilot some of our most advanced fighters!

Dunno playing tie fighter again and i've spent almost equal time in the defender now doing the expansion missions.

See I agree that Tycho should be in an X-Wing but i also can see why he is in an A-Wing. He was the pilot that led the ties away from Wedge and Lando in the Death Star in an A-Wing. He also is more comfortable in a faster ship As he was a TIE Pilot that was an ace before Alderaan blew up and he defected. Coran on the other hand has his own Green CoreSec X-Wing and his own astromech He should have been in an X-Wing to begin with... A Green one. I also want to See Wedge in an Interceptor as Lt. Ketch (Yub Yub Commander).

Jek Porkins and Wes Janson should have a Y-Wing card... Tiferon Yellow Aces. And they need to add Pash Cracken in an A-Wing. Also a small bit of trivia, Arien Cracken and Lt. Blount should be crew members as well as they were the gunners on the Falcon at the battle of Endor.

Or Wedge flying the yt 1300 with the title millennium falsehood.

Thinking in retrospect, Coran and Luke both have abilities which would be better in the ship the other flies.

A double tap X-Wing could get off enough fire before it died to be worth the points. R7 FCS Luke would be a monster tank with an evade action.

Alas!

These are from Wookieepedia:

From Tycho's Page:

Calrissian, leading the fighter force, and Antilles both headed for the Death Star, racing down a constricting access shaft. Celchu flew as Antilles's wing, guiding his fighter through the maze of half-finished girders and access shafts of the massive superweapon. He split off from the attack force in order to lead several TIEs away through the Death Star and reduce the pursuit on Antilles and Calrissian, who successfully destroyed the Death Star

From Jake Farrell's Page:

Imperial fighters—two TIE Fighters and four TIE Interceptors—chased the Rebel fighters as they flew through the Death Star, posing a threat to the success of the mission. Initially, two of the Imperial ships were destroyed when one collided with a wall. However, after Santage's X-wing was shot down, Calrissian ordered a number of the Alliance fighters to split up and head back to the surface, in order to draw off some of the Imperial pursuit. Farrell was the first to comply, followed by Celchu and Salm—he and the others who broke off managed to draw off two Imperial fighters, reducing Calrissian's remaining pursuit by half.

So... you're both right.
