new versions of old pilots?

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

Ok, lets visit something.

in the stories, the rogues did not fly only x-wings. what if they released new pilot cards for existing pilots but in different ships?

and with new abililities in that ship?

we now have 2 pilots this has been done to, but they are in the same ship just different faction. why not the same for others as well?

like:

Han Solo and the imperial shuttle? ;)

or

soontir fel in an x-wing for the rebels (he did defect at one point)

or

even wedge in almost any other rebel fighter

I've been expecting something like this for a long time...

Just have to be careful not to end up like attack wing.

I'd be psyched in some cases. Corran and Tycho should be in X-Wings where they belong.

Maarek belongs in a defender.

these would be nice to see

but also, keep the balance as best as possible, changing the pilot ability so that they are not OP.

I kinda like it how it is to be honest. I'm not scared of change but it can get a bit muddy when we start chopping things up and changing it around. Remember, one of X-Wing's charms and drawcards is its simplicity.

Corran Horn was originally going to be Luke Skywalker in an E wing. But then the Devs thought it through, and realized there was no reason a pilot with Corran's ability and Luke Skywalker in an X wing shouldn't be allowed to fly along side each other. As such, they started looking for a new pilot for the E wing, and came up with Corran Horn.

Developing new abilities for existing pilots to put them in new ships would limit the game in a way that should otherwise not be limited (see above example). However, if you're discussing using existing abilities and just new ship cards, in such that Luke would maintain his focus -> Evade, but pilot an E wing, then you'd run into different problems. For example, Tycho belongs in an X wing. But how ridiculous would his ability be in an X? You could load him up with PTL and EU and never worry about anything, but now you have 3 (or 4 at R1) dice to push through the hurt! Or Wedge in an A wing, where he can be very sneaky and what not, but still make those 2 dice worth something!

Hmm, I hadn't heard about Luke in an e-wing before. Source for that? (For my own curiosity)

As for Tycho in an x-wing, that wouldn't be OP at all, IMO. Anyway, I'd rather they just make new pilot cards with new abilities to fit the ship they're in to avoid any problems. I mean, don't we all want to see Tycho and Corran in X-wings, and Maarek in a Defender?

Man you're quick to see the options. So can I count on you to playtest Vuffi Raa?

No... For several reasons. 1) I don't play YT-1300s. 2) I've never played with energy (still waiting to play my first epic game). 3) I have my own things to play test.

It was one of the interviews that Alex Davy gave. I'm not sure which one though.

Tycho in an X-wing would be pretty fun. However, you wouldn't ever be able to K-turn if you PTL. With the only way to turn around being a 2 hard and a boost, you'd probably fine yourself out of position a lot.

I'd love Wedge in a BTL-A4 Y-wing. He could really poor on some hurt.

The game has matured enough that they can and should release pilots in different ships. It would not be that hard to balance. And it makes more sense thematically to have some pilots able to fly different ships. There are plenty of choices in ships and pilots so it wont create a issue.

We don't need pilot repeats...there are still a great many characters that have yet do be explored and would be a limiting factor for the game.

I think boba and kath have set a bad precedent...though I can see why it was done in their case. This isn't something that should become common place. As far as the same ability in a different ship? That could be difficult to balance and could preclude the older version of the pilot being used if the newer one is waaayyy better.

I don't like the idea...that doesn't mean it couldn't happen...but I wouldn't support it...

Or FFG could put a different name on the new pilots and you could run them together.

Cant they just Han Jr. or something? :D

If I hear that bloody fallacy of Steele belonging in a Defender one more time....

Well considering R7-T1 is Luke's E-wing droid, I'm not surprised they originally considered him.
