Diego Luna cast as lead role for Rogue One

Saw this on my feed while procrastinating on my all-nighter cram session for art history.

This guy looks like Kyle Katarn.

Which means Felicity Jones could be... JAN ORS?

WHICH MEANS ROGUE ONE IS THE LIVE-ACTION, BIG SCREEN RENDITION OF DARK FORCES?

This kinda makes more sense given the plot hints and whatnot, I always figured they meant The Rogue One, as in someone who went rogue rather than a squadron call sign. Or maybe it is their call sign? Either way, I'm excited for this.

Hurrah speculation & procrastination!

While I would LOVE this to be true, I'm sure it isn't. I was hoping Kyle Katarn was going to beard his way to remaining canon.

Never heard of the guy but casting relative unknowns has worked for marvel.

I can see the resemblance to katarn, it'd be nice if he was in the movie.

That would be awesome if it were true!

I won't lie, Kyle Katarn with a Mexican accent would be awesome.

Spazt!

I dunno where I got it in my head that Rogue One was going to be a woman.

Oh well, another boring movie about boys.

Senor, I am just a guy with a lightsaber.

Yea I could see it working.

It was a baseless speculation by a Forbes article right after Felicity Jones was the first confirmed actor in the movie. Of course, just because there's a male actor in the movie doesn't mean the main protagonist can't be Felicity Jones. It just means she needs some boys to shoot at.

The negativity is strong with this one...

How about this:

Jan Or's being promoted from arbitrarily annoying damsel in distress to lead/co-lead as interesting, compelling and hopefully bad ass enough to stay out of Kyle Katarns characters shadow.

Please be Jan and kyle! My my nerdiness can not repel awesome hype of this magnitude!

I'd like to add that i played Jedi outcast the other day, and in the very first mission you have to rush to her aid, if you don't get there in time and she is killed Kyle actually facepalms.

I'd not be all that eager to see Jan and Kyle myself, at least, not in their Dark Forces guises. That was a classic 90s game of play the male hero and be a badass, occasionally rescuing your female sidekick pilot who ferries you around and serves as a romantic interest. Very different from a woman being a lead in her own right. That being said, we'll just have to wait and see what they end up producing.

She's better in Outcast.

Do you know how OP that burst fire is??

In Dark Forces you not only rescue Jan but Crix Madine. Both are prisoners. In Jedi Knight she is captured once as part of a moral choice, but she saves Kyle, at least twice. In Jedi outcast she is captured, but only because she is one of two living people who know where the valley of the Jedi is located.

ive never seen her as the stereotypical damsel in distress. The Moldy Crow never crashed when Jan was piloting her, so I bet if the dark forces game had a piloting component it would be Jan shining while Kyle was the passenger.

I dunno where I got it in my head that Rogue One was going to be a woman.

I don't think it is being negative to express disappointment that what was previously teased as a female-led star wars movie is now a male-led star wars movie that might have a girl in it.

Not that you are going to be able to wrap your head around that concept. By all means, please continue to flame me.

Whoah whoah WHOAH, the movie was never teased as a female-led Star Wars movie. Also, Felicity Jones is confirmed to be a main character in it.

Besides, Episode 7 appears to be a female led movie.

Not to mention in Outcast she is a crack-shot with a Stormy-blaster

I don't think Whoah whoah WHOAH is necessary.

The new Mad Max is mainly about the female lead... Max is more of a supporting role from the reviews.

There is even a bunch of insecure **** boycotting the movie because it supports feminism too much.

I'd just like a source that says (or said) it would be a female-led movie?

I'm sorry, who here is flaming? The one pointing out negativity, or the one accusing the other of being unable to conceptualize? I get the feminist opinion, and I'd love some great female led roles - i'd even think it'd be epic to show a balanced relationship between Katarn and Ors even better if it doesn't touch on romance.

Ors is not a femme fatale, and this isn't a bad thing.

I remember there being speculation about Felicity Jones possibly being the leading actor, I never heard it was confirmed she would be the only centerpiece/main character. I understand how it can be disappointing to discover that it isn't only a female lead, but I'm sure those who have this story in their hands will be supporting strong female characters in this movie. Because on the bright side, we can no longer have Star Wars be a solely dude-driven space opera. Times are changing and the audience and fan base is so much wider now that Lucasfilm/Disney would be fools not to reach out to their growing female audience.

We already have Lupita and Jason as part of a main crew of characters for TFA, also, it seems that junkyard chick and Captain Phasma are female roles that will have importance to this trilogy, so already SW is making a big leap in gender and racial diversity. However, on the more sinister side, it is possible that they feel a female-only main role would not be as profitable as a male-led role or male and female-led role because of the already established masculine tones of the Star Wars universe for whatever they have planned for Rogue One.

And something that I feel is just as important as incorporating gender and racial/ethnic diversity in the SWU: If this turns out to be a rehash of Dark Forces, I can't help but wonder and hope if Disney is paying its respects to the Legends canon by integrating EU stories into big screen renditions. Even if it isn't 100% true to the original Dark Forces, maybe it is opening a possible spinoff series following Miss Jan and SeƱor Katarn. Does this mean we might get a Rogue Squadron movie? Or how about that live action rendition of Shadows of the Empire that Boy George wanted to see in the 90s after the SotE project was a huge, multimedia platform success?

I mean, this is all baseless spec, but if it does turn out to be Dark Forces, it will, give me hope that Disney is reintegrating at least some of the Legends canon.
