Yipes! How am I going to store all this!?

This is what I'm going to use. I got one from Home Depot for Xwing which was much larger and half the price but they don't seem to carry them anymore.

This is the one I recommend. It comes in a 2 pack for $10- already far cheaper than most other tackleboxes of comparable size out there. The boxes lock together so you can stack as many of them as you want and they'll all stay together. They are big enough to hold a VSD- don't know about the ISD yet though, but they should be fine. And they have a lot of customizability to them.

I currently use them for all my X-wing stuff. I have 4 of them total- one for each faction plus one for general tokens/dice/range rulers/templates/etc. They're fantastic. Would buy again. Would recommend to a friend or family member.

How snug is the VSD?

Are you using anything (foam or other) to cushion the VSD?

Finally, are you taking apart your squadrons or can you leave them fully assembled and still fit them in that box?

I am using a Mastercraft Punch Foam tool case. Carries two of each wave one ship with room to spare. Between that and a screw organizer bin, everything fits and both have carry handles.

I'm not actually using these for Armada yet, but my friend is. The interiors is about 2" tall. The VSDs fit fine. The Assault Fish fits, but is tight- it pushes up against the lid a tiny bit. Squadrons fit in just fine fully assembled.

I put in an e-mail to Battlefoam to ask about Armada: Wave I. I recieved a polite response that they are not planning on setting up a foam tray for Wave I, but indicated that they might after more waves had come out.

They did invite me to build a custom tray, though. I had not noticed before, but they do now have the assault frigate and gladiator ship shapes available in their custom foam creator. I will try to put together a custom foam for my Wave I purchases this weekend, and I'll try to share with the board if I can.

Don't use those flat storage containers from Home Depot; the lid bows and isn't really secure in the middle, so if you store the tokens in it then lift it up by the handle, they very easily slide out of their compartment into other compartments (which I find to be super annoying, and yes I found out the hard way). I ended up buying a large tackle-box from Walmart that has multiple separate clear-plastic containers in it. That holds all of my cards, dice, templates, rules, squadrons, and ships. It just so happens that I have so much that I had to still use that Home Depot container but for now it's only holding large components (the AFs and most of the medium bases) that won't escape their compartments. It's not perfect, but it was only $40 total. I guess I'm still in the market for something that it will all fit into perfectly, including the ISDs/Raiders and Rogue/Villain squadrons from Wave 2.

I feel like I'd be open to a lot more storage options if it weren't for those VSD antennas...they just seem to need foam.

I wonder if future waves will have such fragile parts.

In case you weren't aware, the antennas are removable. They pop right out if you're worried about them breaking.

Only for some, others have said there is glue there, and at least enough on theirs that they don't budge.

I did, gently, try to pull out the VSD's antenna, but it didn't seem to want to come out. I couldn't bring myself to just muscle it out. Plus, considering that one of my VSD antennas has already broken and been glued back together makes me quite hesitant to pull on it...

So this works so darn well for the core and wave 1 that I've already had a few other guys in my area buy them once they saw mine. I've got one for each faction. The larger drawers hold 2 Vics or MK-IIs perfectly and do a good enough job that I have yet to even break an antenna. Those drawers will also hold up to 6 gladiators or so far 32 fighter stands, and everything from the upgrade cards to the tokens or even the CR 90 and Nebulon B can be organized in the top drawers. I'll post pics over the weekend if anyone is interested, but they make storing and playing much much easier.

Holy **** that looks amazing haha! Yes, please post some pics! I bought a substantial amount of Wave I and I bought 2 core sets, will I need two of these or will one suffice?

Ooooohhh, I'm gonna have to order that.

I went hunting for that one after you posted it. I cannot seem to find it in Canada

I e mailed KR mulkticase and they responded that they had just received the wave 1 ships and were in the process of designing some storage trays. Released end of June by the latest.

Portability is a real problem, without good storage solutions you'll end up like this guy

Excellent find - going to try this myself. Sounds like lots of room for future purchases also.

For those looking for extra protection, cellular foam can be cheap or even free. Stores like Hobby Lobby sell it in blocks for things like seat cushions for example. A few years ago I did some work at a furniture assembly plant and noticed a bin of scrap foam, they let me take a giant bag full for free. If you happen to have something like that in the area it's worth a try. Otherwise you could check Craigslist or places like Salvation army where you may find badly beaten furniture or cushions for next to nothing, and inside you will get all the foam you'll likely ever need.

Well there are 6 big drawers.

At 2 VSDs or 2 MK2's per big drawer that's 12 of those models or 36 gladiators.

So it depends on how much of wave 1 you bought. My guess is that you'll just need one though.

Since I've already got battle foam for my hordes of X-Wing ships I've started buying it for my Armada fleets as well.

guess I am the odd one here, but I am trying to minimize taking evrything apart and putting it back together multiple times. I feel like this may contribute to loose mouting in the long run. I realize I will occasionally need to flip a tile or something, but I am looking for a solution that will safely store and transport my ships on the bases.

Yes, I know I am insane

Yes, I know they will take up a lot more room

Yes, I know that protecting them will be more difficult this way

and yes, it's still what I want. It's how I store all of my small ships in xwing and it has served me well. Now, I need to find something of suitable depth, like a tool box, and then i will cut out foam to go around them. Open to suggestions for my mad quest

Organizer

I just ordered one of these. Its over 3" deep and looks big enough for all my Imps. I will also be using cut foam.

I use a couple of those to keep my miniatures paints in. Foam will be a must or your ships will be banging around a lot.

Where are you storing your range ruler and movement tool?

Picked one of those up, but a bit on the fence about it. For the cap ships and components (range movement rulers aside) it's great, but I had to stack my fighters in a pile on their sides in one of the big bins to make them work without disassembling the bases (as I am loathe to do), which I'm iffy about. Granted they are light enough that no real harm should come of it, but it just makes me a bit uneasy.

But for $15, I can't gripe much and wow the VSDs fit like puzzle pieces in the big bins

After the failure that was the plano 1363, I started looking at toolboxes as a better fit and came on that one as well. I'm on the fence about ordering them (one for each side) only because I'm not certain the ISD will fit. I bought a plano 1374 when X-Wing came out and through six waves have been able to fit everything aside from the CR-90 and GR-75 in it. I'd really like to avoid repeatedly expanding my storage solution.

Sorry, meant to post picks over the weekend and got caught up in family things. I am using a zip-up 3 ring binder with three different page sizes to sort my cards, and my rulers are in the back of that binder. I'll take those pictures tomorrow since I'll be getting my stuff out for a game and get those on here.

Excellent. KR is my storage of choice for X Wing and I'd really like to carry that over to Armada.
