Yipes! How am I going to store all this!?

By GrandAdmiralCrunch, in Star Wars: Armada

I was able to get my greedy mits on my wave 1 order this evening, and as I went through the process of opening them like second christmas, it slowly dawned on me...Where am I going to put all this?

For some reason before I got my fleet, I was in the X-Wing mindset where I only ordered a couple of each fighter, and they all fit in the core box, (With plastic housing,) up to wave 3.

There is no way 2 of each ship released so far will fit in the core box; Especialy not in the plastic shell even if I trimmed it down. I'm not sure even if I used the excellent tuckboxes I could get them all to fit. I am really going to have to reevaluate by storage options.

If any of you out there are still on the fence about what to pick up, keep the space issue in mind.

I have a solution. I have plenty of space at my place so if you want just send them to me. I am more than willing to help.

Will PM you my address.

Ooooh...is that an offer to move in with you?

But seriously I think the storage issue will resolve itself. We have a couple of smart people here.

I use the handy Tuckbox hangers provided by one of the forum members. You can fit TONS in the Core box when organized well.

I went to a Lowes and purchased a plastic toolbox for $17 bucks. It holds everything from the core and then two glads and another VSD. I kept the ships in their plastic holders that they come in. It was a pretty deep toolbox. I may have to get rid of the plastic and switch to foam for wave two, but other than that it should last me a while, and It's way cheaper than paying $30+ for s tackle box made of the same material.

I am also having a bit of a... moment about what I'm going to do with it. For the time being, I've cleared out a drawer in the unit where all of my board games are stored. But for bringing it with me? I haven't a clue.

For X-wing, it seemed easy. I have the same Plano cases that I think everyone has. One carries my Rebel kit, the other carries the Empire. Armada just baffles me right now. I was thinking that this may be the game I opt to take the foam route for... but even that is a bit of an overwhelming option as a first timer.

Armada has so much more of such wildly differing sizes that I may just be waiting it out for a while until there are a wealth of options figured out by our awesome community. I have a Stanley-014725 organizer that has all of the tokens and cards organized, and that is super handy for all of those bits. So for trips to the game shop, I may just take a single list worth of models at a time in a shoe box.

I'm using a tackle box. I keep the ships in their plastic (trimmed down) up top, and all the cards, tokens, fighters, etc in the drawers below.

This is what I'm going to use. I got one from Home Depot for Xwing which was much larger and half the price but they don't seem to carry them anymore.

This is the one I recommend. It comes in a 2 pack for $10- already far cheaper than most other tackleboxes of comparable size out there. The boxes lock together so you can stack as many of them as you want and they'll all stay together. They are big enough to hold a VSD- don't know about the ISD yet though, but they should be fine. And they have a lot of customizability to them.

I currently use them for all my X-wing stuff. I have 4 of them total- one for each faction plus one for general tokens/dice/range rulers/templates/etc. They're fantastic. Would buy again. Would recommend to a friend or family member.

I'm using one of these:http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/flight-case-with-foam-n70apIt's just pluck-foam inside so can be adjusted to fit about anything. Setup with the core set stuff in it:WP_20150331_21_23_12_Pro.jpgVictory sits on its side, and the Neb B and Corvette go in vertically to save on space. I've got one of everything to pick up for Wave 1 that should fit fine with space to spare. Once I get onto Wave 2 onwards I may need to look at buying a second case and having one for each faction, and would probably then move all the generic components to a small toolbox so they can be taken along with either faction.

This is a germancompanx, who makes storage bags and boxes, and foam inserts for all sorts of games. They started inlays for armada, and they are excellent.

they sell them 10% off (german vendor as well).

I also like those to the degree that i would almost get them although i realy dont need them. Would also perfectly fit my 2 of each model approach. just welded additional boards in my glass display box 2 weaks ago.

Also notice that theese are "half sized" inserts and there are multiple containers available from backback to hardcase, suitcase and fridge size all using the same half/full size stacking modular space thingy inside.

That's the one I ended up using for $17 bucks. Again, plenty of depth for two glads and two VSD's in their plastic trays and a flat tray for the maneuver tool and range stick. I don't think you can beat it for the price. With foam you could probably store way more. I have all the core fighters and an imp fighter pack stored on the top tackle section along with all the tokens.

Yes, I saw that one when I went there. I didn't think it was deep enough to fit an Assault Frigate. I don't have my stuff yet so I couldn't test the size, but it looked pretty big in the pictures.

Ive really been debating getting Cube magnets and circular magnets and glueing magnets to my fighter stands and then the cubes to the inside of the corners of the ship stands. Then getting a $10 metal tray from target and using that. I foresee a tray being pretty important for moving from table to table at events from now on.

Well, I know that some will disagree with me for varying reasons, (cost being one) but I bought a 1520 XL from Battlefoam and have been really pleased with it. http://us.battlefoam.com/p-a-c-k-system-bags/ I had previously bought the P.A.C.K. 216, for x-wing, which now conviently zips onto the top of the 1520.

After Wave I has been out for a few weeks, I assume they will have a custom foam that will fit my new star destroyer, gladiator, assault frigate, etc. The last foam they did for the core set got mixed reviews from the board here, but it has worked well for me. It's certainly deep enough: http://us.battlefoam.com/star-wars-armada/

Someone ponted out, and they were absolutely correct, that you can save a few bucks by purchasing Battlefoam products from other retailers, like Noble Knight (www.nobleknight.com). Somehow, due to the way Battlefoam does shipping, I think, Noble Knight can sell and ship at a signifcant discount.

This is the kind of case I will get too.

Those look fantastic. That is exactly the kind of storage I'd want. I think they are the winners once they have trays for the Gladiator and Assault Frigate, thanks for sharing.

I feel like I'd be open to a lot more storage options if it weren't for those VSD antennas...they just seem to need foam.

I wonder if future waves will have such fragile parts.
