So is Tycho... Grit?

By R22, in Star Wars: Armada

So is Tycho's elite ability essentially the Grit keyword or am I missing something? And, if it is, that seems a little weird/disappointing. Right?

I can't find it now, of course, but wasn't there talk of grit being this? Basically you can't be engaged-in-place? Or am I making this whole thing up?

If that's not what grit is then Tycho's ability is cool and now I'm wondering what grit does. The other wave 2 keywords are intel (?) and rogue (you may move and attack when activated ).

A lot of games do a full text version of an ability and then later decide to "Keyword" it in later cards. Also keep in mind that most things on Grit and Intel are speculation at this point and need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Pretty certain it is the same. But it's not called that as obviously it wasn't made a keyword until wave 2. Thus after Tycho was already done.

I was thinking maybe people confused him with rogue since it allows movement and attacks too -- except that's for when activated, basically giving them pocket squadron commands thta can only be used in the squadron phase. I think somebody eyeballed grit off the Han Solo card? Can't remember.

And does anybody else think Tycho has a look on his face like he just saw Wedge clip his A-wing while Wedge flew his X-wing out of the hanger?

Damnit, Wedge. You're more dangerous in the hanger than in combat.

Tycho specifically allows you to either move or target ships while engaged. Meaning you are still engaged and therefore cannot target squadrons that are protected by Escorts. Our understanding of Grit (which we haven't seen a complete card for yet) is only that it will allow you to do something while engaged. There is a lot of speculation as to what that something is. I doubt very much that Tycho's effect and Grit will be identical. They've had Wave 2 in development long before Wave 1 shipped and would likely have changed Tycho's card to have the Grit keyword if they were the same.

Oooh, just noticed the ships distinction. That's interesting. I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or not. Seems like FFG sees an A-wing with a single black die as a viable anti-ship threat if they're going out of their way to make Tycho's ability that. So he can basically blitz to a ship and ignore fighter cover? Interesting they made it ships he can attack, not squadrons, since the A-wing is the Reb interceptor... Very interesting.

So you can't attack if an escort is there, but if multiple escorts are in range or no escorts are in play, you can still choose whomever to attack? Only counter dictates you attack the squad that attacked you. If I have choice between two enemy TIEs, and TIEa attacks me, I can still attack TIEb, right?

But Tycho could 'disengage' by moving away from an enemy squadron and then attack another squadron IF he were activated by a squadron command?

I'm re-reading the X-Wing books now, so the look Tycho has reminds me of how he was suspected by nearly everyone to be an Imperial sleeper agent.

"You are not [cutoff]

while your are engaged [cutoff]"

Above is what you can see about Grit, certainly a close fit but I will hold off for a more reliable confirmation.

Grit is likely half of Tychos ability:

You are not prevented from moving while engaged.

Or

You are not prevented from attacking ships while engaged.

Grit as a name sounds almost like the second half. Like if your ship was so 'Stay on Target' that it would go in on an attack run even with ships coming at you from behind, firing.

Elusive or something similar sounds like the first half, where you'd be so quick and capable that you could slip out of a dogfight unscathed.

Agree with what others have said, Grit is likely to allow movement OR ship attacks whilst engaged, whereas Tycho can do both.

Cool stuff~ Tycho is pretty cool. Shame he isn't also considered a Bomber or that black die would -really- mean something! But hey, gotta make normal Y-Wings feel good about something.
