Rolled Love for motivation... so what is Hutt Love Life like?

By RodianClone, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Yes I know, I can choose motivation if I want to, but I really like rolling random and be creative within the confinement of the results.

So my leather jacket wearing hutt swoop gang leader with a switchblade vibroknife(marauder with vibroknife) has love for motivation.. Any ideas?

Edit: He/She/It is the leader of swoop gang on Nar Shaddaa, in a sector called Steam City, in a district called the Docks. He has parents/uncles/something rules the city/sector from a district called Hutt`s Kitchen.

Loves himself?

Loves his parents (in a nice not seedy way) and is always trying to impress them?

Loves another hurt from a rival family (Romeo and Juliet)

Loves a non-hutt who he knows is going to age and die a long time before him

Loves another swoop gang member but they have a partner or are not interested in long term relationships (Fry?)

The love of your life, the beautiful Zabrak Rokruo Diggs, has disappeared somewhere beyond the borders of the Corporate Sector. She told you she was going to be vacationing with family in the Mid Rim, but you uncovered a recent holo of her on the world of Bonadan, being guided into a hovercar by two rough-looking Houks.

You suspect the involvement of a rival kajidic, but suspicions brought to light without any shred of proof could simply spell the doom of the unlucky Rokruo. You'll have to play along for now and act none-the-wiser.

What is a Hutt's love life like? Something like this:

OR...

There's an art curator on the Outer Rim world of Taris. You have visited her exhibit many a time under the pretenses of finding just the right piece for your summer home, but the truth is you find her enigmatically captivating.

You're pretty sure the feeling is mutual, but you've been wrong about this sort of stuff in the past. How will things proceed? And who else has been watching this infatuation develop?

You need to watch TCW, the Hunt for Ziro episode. Or just this awesome snippet:

I really love the Romeo and Juliet idea! It really fits the hutt kajidic set up and in Nar Shaddaa it gets a West Side Story vibe to it! :D

Fun idea! :D But a beautiful Zabrak is just too... well, beautiful! This hutt is gonna love another hutt, a chevin or something else that is equally as ugly in human eyes!

Ugly hutt with hot human-ish woman is just creepy. No, I want something deeper, something more like... Oh, I know! The Beast and the Beast. <3

While it's great they actually made Sy Snootles something other then a jokey background set piece, between that and Jar-Jar getting lucky in season six, I don't even want to know what kind of sick rule 34 debauchery is hiding under Filoni's cowboy hat...

...I don't even want to know what kind of sick rule 34 debauchery is hiding under Filoni's cowboy hat...

Probably a fluid sac...

If you're looking for an "ugly" species other than Hutts, there's always Ortolans, Pa'lowick (like the above-mentioned Sy Snootles), Chevins, Ithorians, Rodians, Biths...*

Or one of the Hutt-enslaved species, like the Nikto, Vodran, or Klaatooinians.

But yeah if you're just looking for Hutt-centric love, then the classic Romeo & Juliet would work really well.

*Yes, I said it. They are all ugly. Bring on the anti-defamation leagues!! I will not recant. Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise.

Why not more Love/Loathing. something like the "love" of the character is also an ongoing villain actively competing with the players. Of course a hutt might find that kind of cunning charming when it's not infuriating....

Too bad the love of your life is currently dancing for a rival hutt:

The fun thing about Hutts: they don't need another to reproduce, so love for them is just as much an emotional attachment as anything (yes, they may find others attractive, but LOVE. . .that's impressive).

That said, any other species would work. Hutts may be expected, but you can do something ENTIRELY different. What if that love is the love of a Pet, or a "non-sentient" species? While you may be avoiding the humanoid approach, what if the humanoid was from a slave species, like Nikto or Weequay?

Richardbuxton brings up a good note regarding the lifespan of a Hutt, so if you want something that can live for a long while, look at those species that may outlive a human. You could go with a droid, if you want something quirky, but Wookies can be around for a few hundred years without major issue, and you could even look into the Anzati, as they can live upwards of 1,000 years (and that'd be a wonderful love/hate relationship!)

Maybe a "Love" motivation is more about finding out how to love rather than having an object of love. Like Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation and his quest to become human, your Hutt may have noticed this odd thing about lesser species, this thing they call love, and how powerful it is in their lives. He's young and is willing to go out of his way to find a way for a Hutt to love, just like humans and Twi'leks and Zabraks love.

So we're not talking about being in love here, but with the ability to be compassionate because all beings matter in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe he/she wants to help others find love. Of course, they may be a rather tyrannical matchmaker, but I'm sure it's for the lovebirds own good.

Narcissism can work. Have a hutt version of Tony Stark. They have shell armour, possibly more villianous a la civil war Tony.

Love can also be darker, such as forcing someone to love you. Possibly adore you. Stockholm syndrome or brainwashing.

Building on what Simon Fix said and the Romeo & Juliet idea, how about someone else loves your Hutt character, like is , madly, stalker level in love! The other Hutt shows up at awkward and inconvenient times to disrupt your characters plans or make him look the fool in front of his gang. Ultimately he will fall for this love, but will it happen before they loose interest?

That sounds more like Obligation rather than Motivation, but I like it.

I have nothing productive to add, I just wanted to say this thread title made me laugh so loud that I startled my neighbour's cat.

The fun thing about Hutts: they don't need another to reproduce

They do in canon. Pablo Hidalgo mentioned it in a panel about canon at celebration this year - Hutt's aren't hermaphrodites.

Of course, in Legend they are, so it depends where your campaign is set.

And also, there's a difference between hermaphroditic and asexual. Hutts were never considered asexual (being able to reproduce from a single organism), so you still need a "mama" and a "daddy," even in Legends material.

I didn't know about Pablo Hidalgo saying that...honestly, I like the simplification.

I guess I should have prefaced that I was using Legends, because that's what I have been working with the longest.

I could have sworn that, in the Han Solo Trilogy, there wasn't any talk of parents outside of the mother, which made me think they were asexual as well as hermaphroditic.

Well there's the tale of Gorga and Anachro...

Asexual is not quite the right term. Self-fertilizing would be more accurate, but I'm not sure if hermaphrodite Hutts were specifically noted as being capable of self-fertilization.
