Turkey Shoot?

By Nickel, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I've only played a few games and just bought my core set last week.

Here's what I plan on running in the regional tournament this weekend. Nobody showed up to the last tournament that was in my area, so I don't expect more than a dozen people to show up for the Regional.

You might consider dropping one of the Nexus for Temporary Alliance and Gideon Argus. The 2nd Nexu won't help you as much as Gideon will. Gideon can give free movement to IG-88 so that Iggy can more easily get into position to use his Assault ability (with Arsenal that's fantastic), and if Gideon also gives him a Focus, you will be pouring out LOTS of damage! IMHO, Iggy needs Gideon to really do his job well. And those Trandos with a focus can be monsters too.

I really like IG-88, Luke, Gideon, and a pair of regular Trannies.

Sounds like quite the party!

Thank you all for the advice. I played my original list a few times last week and got stomped each time. My buddy ran a few different lists that I might see in the tournament on Saturday. Then we worked on improving my list.

This is what I took:

▪ IG-88

Trandoshan Hunter

Trandoshan Hunter

Nexu

▪ Temporary Alliance

▪ Devious Scheme

▪ Gideon Argus

Rebel Saboteur

There were 11 players at the KC regional. I lost the first two rounds of the tournament against identical lists of Gideon, Mak, Fenn, troopers and saboteurs. The dice hated me and my guys died easily. In the second round, each of our Gideons managed to get a kill; my nexu and one of his saboteurs. I had a bye in the third round.

In the fourth round, I faced a Trandoshan swarm with a Nexu. He blocked my main path with his nexu, which I murdered with my Trandos, and moved most of his Trandos into position behind it. He flanked with two trandos and I engaged with my nexu and one of my saboteurs. I reinforced my Trandoshans with IG-88 and the other saboteur. Most of his Trandos were clustered and focused their attacks on IG-88. My saboteur used his blast against them for at least two rounds without hurting any of my own forces. I killed his flankers and a couple more of his Trandos.

Before I know what's happening, he's already filled out the score card and was congratulating me on my win. I knew I was ahead in points, but I didn't think I was that close yet. I wasn't going to argue, and ended up taking 8th place. Yay, dice!

Beginner's Luck, I guess.
