Vader

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

Who else set up their Vader to have 2 TIEs on the side, instead of the 3 Advanced like your are "Supposed" to?

It must be done this way.

I'm going to do that. Was the plan right from the beginning. Everything else doesn't make any sense in my eyes.

Will you create a special rule where if the squadron takes one damage, Vader gets thrown off the table and allowing the death star to be blown up right in front of him?

Why are you *supposed* to team him with other Advanced? I would personally much prefer teaming him swarm based ties. Especially Soontir Fel.

Well it could make sense... if you think of Vader as flying with an all advanced crew. Post Yavin he may have gone back and said "Hey dudes, this ship saved my butt. Make more. and put some hot shot pilots in them for this huge battle coming up". but yeah, it's more iconic to have the two TIEs.

no

I will certainly be pulling this stunt :-)

Yup. I can't wait.

That's a great idea!

I believe he's referring to the model.

Cheating Cheaters all of you. I'll have you disqualified from Armada. Ship me your ships now!

:P

Do that to the figure, but also have Mauler Mithil flying next to him to create a logical paradox.

Yes I'm referring to the physical method of displaying his 3 miniatures on the Vader circle. One Advanced +2 TIEs to resemble the trench run in A New Hope.

As for lists, yes he pairs extremely well with Fel, as they must shoot at Vader, and then Fel gives them damage after they do it.

well, I'm losing a Tie Squadron...but I'm going to have 10 after the packs come in so **** it

I definitely planned on do this very thing.

In fact, IIRC, vader's x-1 prototype never went into full production. Instead, the TIE avenger was chosen over vader's TIE.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

This is exactly what I'm planning to do.

Converting the T/As to Avengers should not be hard. It even could explain their increased Attack Dice! :)

Some TIE Advanced fighters did go into limited production around the time of A New Hope. Tempest and Storm squadrons, for instance, received them, and that's why we have them in X-Wing.

When you think about it though the TIE Advanced has little improvement over the TIE Interceptor except shields and hyperdrive. So the Empire chose the better gunned, faster, and cheaper TIE Interceptor and pushed TIE Advanced development into the TIE Avenger (and later TIE Defender).

This left the X1 replaced by many other craft but in the early days of the Empire I think they needed anything they could get to match Rebel resiliency. I kind of like that the X1 is becoming more prominent in the game myself, since I like rare and one-off prototypes.

I do wish that the Avenger would be acknowledged though.

It's from the TIE Fighter game, sure. And is basically a faster X-Wing, or an Interceptor with Drive and Shields and missiles... but still! It's a distinct ship from the Advanced, but hasn't been acknowledged even once by FFG. While the Assault Gunboat has, and is in their RPGs....

Now that you mention it, I rarely see the Avenger referenced outside of the x-wing series of video games. All told, it was a pretty amazing fighter. Fast, shielded, small profile, 4 lasers and myriad warhead load outs. Could even be equipped with heavy rockets or space bombs.

He is saying that on the stand it self he is going to replace the two TIE advance with TIE fighter models.

This! In that formation! This is the Black Squadron! Mauler is leading the second element, close nearby.

To be fair, that's not an insignificant upgrade.

So do I. One of my favorite TIE designs, pretty much right after the X1, and closely matched with the Interceptor in the list of things I like.

(well, okay, I like the Defender too, but it's a tad exotic for my tastes)

Has the Avenger made it into the new "canon of the week..." :P

Pretty sure that was ret-conned. Read somewhere that the TYIE/Int was the production model derived from the Tie/X program.
