Wave 1 fighter assembly problems

By EmpireErik, in Star Wars: Armada

This is not a complaint, just a warning...

When assembling the wave one fighter stands, I ran into a lot of problems with the base post peg, not fitting into the circular base. This resulted in several of the small pegs to the base post getting bent. I now have to request replacements for up to half of the base posts because once the peg is bent, you cannot use it, and I cannot see any other option other than gluing it tot he base. If you do this, you cannot flip over the fighter dial to swap from generic to unique pilot.

So when assembling the pieces, some of the posts may be too snug for the circular base. Again, it just may be me, and hopefully so, but be careful.

Otherwise, I was happy with the expansion set.

Are you aware that the lower portion of the peg has a specific alignment it needs to be in? The arrow should be perpendicular to where the activation slider goes.

If you force it while it is out of alignment, you will bend the pegs. Instead, apply a little bit of pressure, and twist the peg, and it should find the right alignment, and slip right in.

I did the same thing with my first few squadrons. Darrwood is correct.

Check the base. It's difficult to see, but one side of the peg is actually flat! This will correct the problem you're having.

The side with the arrow is the flat side.

I will have to check. I thought I had it right. But it could be my bad. Hopefully I can still get replacements. Maybe I can buy a few

EmpireErik, I did the same thing with my Core set. I even thought I may have damaged some pegs trying to force them together. But once you realize there's a specific orientation, all of my squadrons -- including the ones I thought I had damaged -- went right together. Good luck! Report back.

Even if the peg doesnt fit into the hole after properly aligning it, its nothing a razor blade cant handle. Just shave a single mm off of one side and bam! it fits.

^^ saved me too.

I had to trim a bit of flash off my vsd stand to get it to slot in. Minor issue.

I relooked at everything, and held the stand up against a lap top monitor and I could see the flat side much easier.

Some of them I could salvage, but others, no.

I contacted customer support and ask for their help and some replacements. I really thought the base post was not fitting correctly when I was putting some of them together. So when I bought the second Imperial fighter set yesterday, I was mad careful.

I got an e-mail yesterday in response to my request and FFG Customer Service said will send me a few of the bottom posts. Wow!, I am so happy about that because the peg on those was too bent to salvage. Customer service was friendly and quick to respond and bailed me out of a problem.

It really is the small things like FFG Customer Service and this forum that continue to the make this game shine.

I love ffg customer service

Make sure you follow the keying.

I had exactly no problem assembling any of my two fighter packs, nor did my roommate with his.

I had the same issue. Five seconds with a file solved it.

I almost had an issue, but my experience with X-wing kinda saved me here. I assumed they'd do something similar, and sure enough, they did.

For the bases, put the FFG symbol to the right. Then point the arrow on the stem away from you. Wiggle a bit, and in it goes.

Edit: ... usually :(

I lost a squadron peg before I realized this :(

but realize it I did. tis true

Lol you all need to be way more careful with miniatures. Of course it's a slotted base. It's even in the instructions.

Who reads the instructions before playing with the toys?

While this may just be an oops, I've had a number of my flight stands appear poorly manufactured - the peg inserts are set into the plastic at really awkward angles - close to 45 degrees. Wouldn't be surprised if there weren't worse issues.

You will only need one unique pilot stand per unique pilot. Just put one of the dials with the unique pilot face up on the stand and leave it. If you know you don't have that pilot, then just treat that stand like the other generics.
