New title idea to help x-wings and e-wings

By dherve10, in X-Wing

Title: Astro Socket Escort Refit

X-wings and E-wings only

Cost: -1

Reduce the cost of any astromech equipped to this ship by 2 points to a minimum of 0.

Inspired by the X1 fix for the Tie advanced, this title would push point costs for both of these ships to more appropriate levels while emphasizing the strong thematic connection between these fighters and their droids.

I have already stated something similar. I like your's but I would modify it slightly.

Title

Enhanced Astromech Ports

Cost: 0

Reduce the cost of any non unique astromech by 2 squad points (minimum of 0).

This keeps the uniques unique. And fixes the issues at the same time. Allowing you to take any generic astros for free.

I could see something like these titles, but probably for just one ship; the E-Wing or X-wing. Also, keep in mind that Corran Horn is out there and doing quite well; a good fix avoids making him better than he already is.

Totally agree, but since my fix only works on Generic Astro's Corran will probably not use this, because he usually uses Unique Astro's

Durand, are you attempting to correct base cost of the ships with the -1 title cost?

(Except r2-d2)

Huh! R2-D2 is unique. I'm confused

Were you talking to the OP?

How can an Astromech Port be a title?

Well fine :)

Pick a name X-wing T65C and E-wing High tech

Eitherway, it still works the same.

Thematically, the "non-unique" could work if you are implying that the generic droids are "wiped" and configured to the ship each mission. You would never wipe a unique astro as they've proven that their individual personality configuration is a bigger boon than that perfect configuration.

That being said, this doesn't really help much. The only consistently helpful generic astro is the R2, and even then you want to put that on a Y-Wing, not the X or E. I guess the other two would see more play if they were free, but the two most useful Astros on the X and especially the E are R2-D2 and R5-P9...the two most expensive Astros available (yeah, R5 is tied for 2nd with three others).

My point is while I see that maybe the generics would get more use, I don't see how this "fixes" the X and E Wings competitively. What am I missing?

Your Right, but I contain that named pilots are fine in the basic X-wing and E-wing. Non-named pilots need the boost

R2 - X-wings and E-wings having all greens on 1 or 2 moves is amazing

R5 - Repairing critical damage for some effects

R7 - Spending Target locks for force re-roll

All instant boons for both ships. Plus you have to account for having FFG come out with more Droids in the future.

This allows the player to decide how to use them. It's a free boost and helps lower costed non named ships. Since named pilots in both ships are really pretty good and don't need a boost, IMO. Really how many non named pilots really take other droids, apart from the stress bot.

Title: It comes in a rocket can

Cost: 2

Text: If you have an equipped secondary weapon, you cannot make primary weapon attacks.

Secondary weapons cannot be discarded.

If an equipped secondary weapon requires a target lock or focus to activate, you may ignore this restriction.

Balanced? Probably not even close. Fun? **** yeah.

No, I get it. They would make it better, but the point of a fix is to make them competitive. The TIE/Ad fix makes all of them competitive. The named pilots will be monsters, and the generics will be great tanky fillers.

This doesn't make me confident in the X or E wing. It's feels like throwing bad money after good. I love these ships, I want to fly them and fly against them more. I'm just not seeing this doing that for them like the TIE/Ad fix will for that ship.

They've already done the charadon refit they wont repeat themselves.

Awesomeness

Title, X-Wing generic pilots, E-Wing generic pilots and Jek Porkins only

"You are an awesome player"

Would this title help?

Too strong, needs to cost 2 at least.

Durand, are you attempting to correct base cost of the ships with the -1 title cost?

Yes. I took inspiration from the chardaan refit and x1 titles as well as referencing MathWings data. The x-wings, with biggs, wedge, and Luke being the exceptions, are overcosted by 3 or more, and even the aforementioned named pilots are overcosted by around 2 points. The ewings are overcosted by ~4 points for the unnamed and ~2-3 for the named.

The refit reduces the cost of these ships by 1, helping these ships slightly if you want to run them without the droid. With the droid, you get a total of 3 points reduced, bringing the majority of these ships in line with suggested values. Certain pilots like Wedge, Biggs, and Luke, and Corran end up being worth a bit more than their suggested values, but there are plenty of pilots like scum Boba, the phantoms, and now the upcoming tie advanced fixes that will cost significantly less than their suggested values.

If the the x1 title can both add a systems upgrade and reduce that by 4, it does not seem too farfectched to bring the x-wings and e-wings in line with their suggested values with the consideration that they use their droids, which thematically emphasizes this unique upgrade for them without further boosting y-wings too.

I do agree. But I always fly named X-wings and E-wings, and they are very good, when they take a nice astro.

Non Named suffer bad. If you make it all astromechs, Corran, Luke, Wedge, along with some others will be all over the top. Way over the top. IMO

We will see ...

If the basic Kihraxz, which is refered as the scum X-Wing, will cost 21 points, I see no way that there will be a general cost reduction for the X-Wing...

I'm going to have to disagree. Corran with r2-d2, ptl, advanced sensors, is 45 points. This title would bump that down to 42 points, which is still quite high. Compare that to Scum Fett with an engine upgrade at 42, Soontir Fel with ptl, autothrusters, and hull upgrade at 35, Vader with x1, advanced targeting computer, predator, and engine upgrade at 37, whisper with VI, FCS, Gunner, and ACD at 44, IG-88B with a heavy laser cannon at 43, etc....

You think that 42 pt Corran blows all of these out of the water? Emphasis on Vader, upcoming Juno, Fett, IG, and Whisper.
