Something new.

By AldousSnow, in X-Wing

There's been a ton of talk about if and when we'll start seeing Episode 7 ships. I personally think that we'll most likely see them dropping next year. And I'm not sure if there's been a topic on this specifically, so sorry in advance if there has.

But I was weighing the possibility of an "Aces" style pack that comes complete with an X-wing and two TIE fighters. But instead of the same old variant paint scheme, we'll see a new sculpt all together to represent the new variants in Episode 7. The X-wing has a much sleeker design closer to the original Ralph Mcquarrie drawings. And the new TIE fighter has a more robust look to it. The pack could come with not only the new sculpts, but some cards that apply to only the new design, and some that could be used on either version of the ship. We could get our precious X-wing fix. And not that we need a TIE fix, but something new is always welcome. I could see that launching around the time of the movie.

Thoughts?

Well I personally wouldn't mind in seeing this. It would be a nice nod to the new Star Wars film.

It would also be interesting to see the original miniatures that came in the starter box of the X-Wing game get the new look that episode 7 is going to bring to these two ships.

Will it happen? Never know, I know that shapeway does have the new episode 7 X-Wing in scale with the X-Wing game.

You might get your wish....never know.

warning to those shapewayers... you never know what they'll actually print! I was pretty well convinced we'd never get a kwing... I've already had mine for over a YEAR!

Shape way has a vast amount of ships....I'm really surprised that the TIE predator was not released in wave 7 with the K-Wing because both are from the new Republic era

I'd wager they'll do something new for the 7 content rather than shoehorn 30 years out of era ships into X-wing.

Hard to say.

I would like to see EpVII ships in the current game but as suggested, they might push existing ships out. We might see an X-Wing 2.0 (X-Wing: New Republic Era ... or something like that). I don't think this will happen.

I think we will see the EpVII ships in the current game. It is clear that FFG has exhausted the supply of OT ships and is digging deeper into the EU salad, introduced a new faction and even made up their own ship. I can't help but think FFG would love some new official material.

Another factor is the rate of technological development in the SW universe. Technology seems to have plateaued in the past 1000 years or so. Starships and arms have not improved greatly in this time. 30 years from the events of ROTJ would not have greatly advanced the performance of star fighters.

With this in mind, I think we'll see the ships from EpVII in the current game. I predict we will see the new TIEs and X-Wings with the new paint job, pilots and upgrades but the same dials. We will see the chrome TIE as a stand alone expansion. It is in these expansions/packs that we will see the hotly debated X-Wing 'fix/boost'.

I'm curious to see what happens with Rogue One, as it will be a Civil War era movie that may or may not have some star fighters.

Don't you guys think the Raider IS an Episode VII ship?!? I DO!!! :D

Considering the new canon spans only 33 years so far (TPM to RoTJ) does that still hold?

^ Alright fella .. you got me there.

Well, one thing you can say is that the rise of the Empire brought about a technological dark age. Everything is shiny and sophisticated in the PT, but in the OT it's all grimy and ancient-looking.

So there's that.
