Expert Handling and Ysanne Isard and Dauntless ;)

By ishikabe, in X-Wing Rules Questions

EDIT: Does Dauntless allow you to use Expert Handling? And in another thread someone claimed that when you take a Green Movement and you overlap another ship, that Green nullifies the Stress from Dauntless: is that true?

Could you link all 3(Dauntless, Expert, Ysanne) and gain 2 Stress tokens? But then the only way the opponent can choose your movement dial is if you take a Red movement next turn, right?

Thanks ;)

Ysanne Isaard: At the start of the Combat phase, if you have no shields and at least 1 Damage card assigned to your ship, you may perform a free evade action

Dauntless: After you execute a maneuver that causes you to overlap another ship, you may perform 1 free action. Then receive 1 stress token.

Expert Handling: Action: Perform a free barrel roll action. If you do not have the action icon, receive 1 stress token. You may then remove 1 enemy target lock from your ship.

Near as I can tell, Ysanne doesn't have any relation to Expert Handling. Expert Handling is an Action. As long as you're able to take an action, you can do so. You will then be subject to the text on that card.

Ysanne says that if you meet the conditions, you can take a free EVADE action.

A Green maneuver will remove existing stress. Dauntless says IF you overlap another ship, you get a free action, THEN receive a stress token, so I don't see how that would nullify any other stress.

Ysanne allows you to take a free evade action, which means that--assuming that you are not stressed--you assign an evade token to your ship. The only way for Ysanne to allow you to use the action on Expert Handling is if you also have Push the Limit or Experimental Interface. That way you can trigger PtL or EI after taking your free evade action.

The Dauntless title allows you to take an action after the point at which you would remove a stress token because of a green maneuver, so the stress token from using Dauntless would remain.

If your ship is stressed at the beginning of the Combat phase, then you will not be able to trigger Ysanne Isard.

Push the limit cannot help you to activate "Expert Handling" out of the free evade action granted by Ysard, since PtL is restricted to actions from your action bar only.

You absolutely need Experimental Interface if you want to trigger EH from Ysard free evade.

This is wrong. "Dauntless" triggers just after executing the maneuver (Step 3 of the activation phase). Checking for stress is the 4th step of the phase. Thus, you get the stress token just after executing the maneuver, but before checking for the maneuver's color.

For example, let's say your VT-49 is equipped with "Expert Handling" and "Dauntless", and you select a Green maneuver:

You execute the green maneuver and overlap another ship, which triggers Dauntless, so you choose to perform "Expert Handling". Since the VT-49 doesn't have barrel roll in its action bar, EH gives your decimator one stress token. Next, you recieve another stress token from using Dauntless for a total of two. Then, it comes the check pilot stress step, and since you performed a green maneuver, you remove one of those 2 stress tokens, ending the activation phase with only 1 token remaining.

I suggest you reading the FAQ entry for 'Night Beast'. He has the same 'just after the maneuver' interaction with stress in his ability.

Awesome. I will read this Nightbeast section too. Gotta be able to lawyer this for tourney time.

Edit: In the FAQ for Dauntless and the Movement section both agree with you. I should have scoured the FAQ first.

I stand corrected.
