Improvised Detonation Blast Radius

Unless the talent or weapon text specifically says otherwise, then the default for any Blast quality would be Engaged as per the description under Weapon Qualities in any of the core rulebooks.
The thermal detonator in EotE calls out that the Blast quality hits targets within short range, since it's an exception to the default of "range of Blast = Engaged." Improvised Detonation doesn't have that note, so it defaults to Engaged the same as any other weapon with the Blast quality.
While on the topic, I'm assuming it has a crit rating of "-"?

Would seem that way, since the regular explosives listed in DC don't have a crit rating listed.

Ahhhh, I was thinking pipe-bomb, but it's more IED.....
A pipe-bomb may well be a valid example of Improvised Detonation in action. It's also generally not meant to be used in the same manner as a grenade, so the kind of 'pin-point' accuracy that scoring a critical with a grenade would imply isn't really necessary.
