Nothin' fancy

By DanDoulogos, in X-Wing

First time posting a repaint. I wanted to do something to my Decimator unique without going too radical in the color scheme.

EDIT1:Not sure how to attach photo from mobile though so it may be a while before I figure out how to get the image showing.

Edit 2: Let's try this:

Oh here is a tie Interceptor I did a couple weeks back.

Those both look great!

Love the Decimator. The top view screen looks great. The hazard stripes seem out of place but apart from that .. IT LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!

Yeah, I regretted the hazard stripes as soon as I did them. Lol.

Here's a defender I painted this evening, and a phantom a couple of weeks back

And I weathered the Decimator a little too

The defender and phantom actually look better IRL - the colors here are a little washed out.

Wow, normally I don't like that vibrant shade of green, but I'll be honest, it looks great on that Defender man!

Keep up the good work!

I like that shade for bright spots. I used it on the phantom along with a darker metallic green and white for the cloaking effect.

Here is a top shot of the Defender - I liked the wing pattern.

I added this (and a few others) to the firespray thread - but I thought I'd post it here too just to keep them together.

Nice to see something different; your repaints are very colorful and vibrant. I'm definitely a fan of your Firespray; liking the camo-but-not-camo feel the green & brown give together.

I have this metallic green paint that it's almost impossible to find her use for, and I thought hey! I know! I can paint that fire spray in metallic green if I cut it with some brown and yellow. It turned out ok. Originally I was just going to put up a couple of green panels on an otherwise grey ship, but then I thought I threw a little bit or yellow in there, something mustard-ish, then I had to go with some brownish because the mustard-ish wasn't mustardy enough. And like a barber who continues to circle the head of hair he's cutting, snipping more and more, I just kept going until I finally had to stop, or risk painting the whole thing twice.

Winding down from regionals yesterday, painted these two.

The right-side laser fell off N'Dru's 95 just as I began to paint it. No biggie, but when I pulled out my Crazy GlueTM to put it back on, it was a little clogged, and I ended squeezing a bit harder to get some out - when, SPLOOSH! I got a quarter of a teaspoon's worth of glue all over the wing. I dabbed as much as I could up as quick as I could (stuff dries fast), but you'll notice that the detail on the right wing washes out because the glue hardened there. I couldn't really do too much for detail with the underside missiles either, as the glue dripped there and I didn't notice it till too late.

Dollar Store Acrylics, and a few hours of effort, and she looks a little better to me than she did before I started - which is about as high a bar as I set for "success".

I shouldn't start painting after 9 p.m. on a work night, because I tend to get lazy, and by lazy I mean impatient. Ten very thin layers will give you nice color without sacrificing a lot of detail. When you're in a hurry though, a couple of less thin layers will work, but it isn't going to look as good. My only regret is that I should have taken my time, even if that meant not getting it done that same day...

Sigh. Patience. The greatest tool in any painter's drawer.

Loving that interceptor!

I was about to say, "Yeah I copied that idea from a user named Haeden!" - then I looked. Lol!

I really like the contrast - the washed out/weathered look of the original gray just hides the intended sleekness of the paint job. As soon as I saw your rendition, I thought - oh, I gotta go do that.. right now!
