Secondary weapons?

By SchenTheRodian, in X-Wing

So I understand you either use primary or secondary weapon in the combat round...

But can you ever use both?

I've noticed some cards say "acquire a lock on once you have attacked", does this Intel I can then use a secondary weapon like proton torpedoes?

Any help, thanks!

Unfortunately under normal circumstances you get one Attack per round, either a primary or secondary. There are however several upgrade cards and pilot abilities that give a second attack in the right situation.

For example, "Corran Horn" can use a 2nd attack during the end phase but cannot attack the next round and "Gunner" which lets you attack again if you missed the first time, but only if you missed so its not like you are getting double damage.

The y wing title allows you to attack with primary attacks and a cannon, and ig88b let's you fire both but only if you attack and miss the first time like gunner.

Understood. Thanks guys

To address the other part of your question. Things that give you a target lock after you attack are usually meant to be setting up next round's attack, since TLs don't get removed at the end of the turn, you can spend next round's action on something else then. Such abilities do pair extremely well with the 2-3 things that let you attack twice in a single round though.

Yep if you have ig88b with FCS he'll shoot and gain a TL, if he misses you'll then get your second attack and have the TL to re-roll thus increasing your odds of hurting the enemy.

For fighters it is one attack per ship. There are other cards that allow for an additional attack such as BTL-A$ title for Y-wings and Gunner which allows you to make another attack if you missed.

For Epic ships they can fire their primary and all their secondary weapons once, but for their secondary weapons they often spend energy to fire secondary weapons which become their restraint when making multiple attacks.

Edit. Wrong thread

In the case of Colonel Vessery, you immediately acquire a target lock when attacking a ship that already has a red target lock token assigned to it. This means you get to acquire the target lock as you roll the dice and then use it in the same attack.

Vessery is badass.

Personally I don't much like things that give me a target lock towards the end of a round. Because then I am locked into trying to shoot that particular target. One misjudgement of where your opponent is moving to and you could be stuck trying to chase him down. I prefer to get my target locks just before spending them. That way I spend it immediately and don't have to worry about staying on target.

Yes, that is a risk with those kinds of upgrades. They do telegraph your intents and require more careful flying.

And that's why weapons engineer is a badass when paired with fire control systems.
