Proposed Errata for Path of the Master

By ROTBI, in UFS General Discussion

i dont understand what you mean about the secretive of these boards. just look at my paul deck listed I asked for help and people jumped in to help me maybe instead of looking for it you should ask for help on something. Every deck I see posted in the deck forums has had some input from other board members and the rules question board is always getting posts and people are answering them, my big complaint is noone is posting enough tournaments for texas *cough* jascogames get that pt going for texas already! *cough*!

Luthon, yes of course there are people willing to help but do you see Olexa, Herr, Hata, J.J. releasing their deck info? I don't. Of course collectively we may be stronger than them but world champions know exactly what to do when and where.

im sorry im kinda new I dont know who those people are, i mean i see their names thrown around every once in awhile but eh.

oh sorry. Those were past worlds, national, UK, US, and present champions. Not that you arent champion caliber. I'm just saying who we know are top tier dont really share worth crap.

yeah they all have character cards made because they won some big event like worlds or nats

but yeah sadly we dont get the winners deck as nobody wants to give up the super good tech but we can usually get a few from top 8's

Since Hata is currently working for FFG, and thus cant win the tourneys, I wish he WOULD post his decks up. Him or any FFG employee. Give us an idea of what sort of decks they use when designing/testing new sets.

He probably doesn't have the time, what with designing the game and every other thing they have him do at FFG (because he doesn't only handle UFS stuff). However, more articles on the UFS page would definitely be interesting. If only deck introductions to particular characters. Just to drum up interest.

Here is the thing since I hit a nerve of yours by accident. I'm not saying all people who travel are only doing it for prize support. My issue is that I have seen lots of players from varioius games travel just to get prize support because of strong meta cards/pieces presented at what would be assumed weak gameshops. The shark element gets annoying and its unavoidable in any game.

Proxies are a mindset issue for me personally. I've play tested different card games and proxies are addictive for me. When I play tested the only thing that brought me back in was knowing the fact that since x and y was broke it was going to be fixed and I wasn't going to see the final version of the card. Proxying perfect decks to play and autopilot annoy me. The first is that I know that inspite of the skill i may or may not have I can't go out and do anything with it. When I got into proxy playing in the past for testing meta decks and other things I moved to only playing proxy decks. I realized I couldn't buy what I was playing and when I played with the cards I had I felt that deck was a waste inspite it being the best I had. I loose contentment which I value more.

Thing is I am competitive. I like to win a lot. I saw how unfun that made my envoirment. I am a person that hits a certain level and doesn't want to go back. When it came to heroclix i was very competitive. Getting the key pieces was a lot easier. I played 4 venues in Tulsa every week just to play the best players around and prove I was one of them. But there aren't 4 places to play in Tulsa that has UFS. There is one. I don't move at my pace but the pace of my community. That pace right now is slow. I can go hard and possibly kill people's intrest in the game. At the same time I have a personal value of what I want to see in game play.

My view on the community is again what I saw in the heroclix community. There was more openness there then here. Competitiveness mainfests in different ways. One of the things I don't like is the overall secret nature of the boards. The lack of the champions giving advice. I've already said this before in many different ways. I can say there are some outstanding posters like Lord Aggro and yourself who give out a good amount of info. But the average mean of contribution is low.

In the end I may just need to walk away from this game. My game play expectations don't match, I'm looking for a different community element, and I have no aspirations for the higher eschelon of the game. I just need to find a way of getting another player to be scout.

See, I get darklogos here; my playgroup is at a weird place right now (there's only 2 of us who are real into the game, and we carry the load), and we have zero chance at getting to any sort of major tournaments (we live in Puerto Rico , our LGS is struggling, and the other guys who signed up to be scouts split about 2 years ago and haven't been heard from since), but we still play the game of UFS. We still buy product; we just scrounged up enough cash to buy some boxes of Tekken 6 just last week (not easy to do as a college student). The thing is, du tpotd , when you're competitive and you have a competitive environment, proxying is part of the game because you try and grab every advantage you can get, and playtesting your ideas is an undeniable edge. Now, if you're in a struggling environment, as I am, proxying anything other than commons you can't find is an omen of doom for your playgroup, because you likely are never getting your hands on these cards, and you know it, and now you're not even buying product. I see where you're coming from; but the fact of the matter is that not everyone has a solid playgroup. Some of us remember treading water for the playgroup to live not too long ago, and what you suggest is basically a death sentence for us. I know you meant well, and your advice is usually spot-on (as a matter of fact, when are you gonna swing by and check out my decks in the Deck Building forum, eh? gran_risa.gif ), but you have to understand the situation is different.

P.S.: A shout-out for guitalex2008 (we Boricuas gotta stick together, after all).

I know that many times in the past people have posted decklist, so I dont think It's fair to say they are not. That being said it should not be a players job to post there deck. This isn't work, its a game. We hand in decklists, FFG should post them. Most of the top caliber players have deconstructed there decks after the event, especally since they were no longer legal. Who really wanted to read about a non legal deck for too long anyways.

I taught him UFS. Small world :)

I think you hand in decklists so that people arent slipping in cards. In anycase I would love to see champion decklists. Compare them to my decklists, seeing what i could have added, could have taken our. Seeing a champions state of mind for deckbuilding could really help some of us more amatuer types build better.

Hmm, I suppose you're talking about Guillo, my brother?

I taught him UFS. Small world :)

Yep. Thing is, he left us in quite a bind, since now no one can take on the Scout's mantle, and we miss out on a lot of prize support. :(

I remember he asked for my advice on what to do, and sadly we agreed to ask Jonathan Ledezma back then for help on the subject. There was no resolution, other than the unfortunate ending of the Mayaguez playgroup. It's a shame that the game died in Mayaguez because there is only one store that carries UFS and the owner was such a jackass.

Blame the LGS owner. He was a jackass and demanded to get free promos from the scout which were for YOU guys and from his own scout support. That was extremely unprofessional of him, and I'm sure if any of you take the scout spot (which I don't see why not?), you might run into the same problem.

Not that my topic isn't completely derailed by now, lol But yeah, we started at a store with a manager just like that. No help to us whatsoever. Another store gets our business now.

Oh, I KNOW he's a jackass (and about as bright as his doorstop), because he let Magic die down here as well, and you know how strong that was just 3 years ago. But he's all we've got. If not, we're stuck buying stuff from CoolStuffInc . Now, the playgroup is not quite dead (there's some on-and-off guys, so we can make 8 people if you count them), but it's struggling because of them.

We've tried to move into the scout spot, but it says that all the scout spots for this area are taken. If there's anything we can do that you (or anyone) knows to fix this, it'd be appreciated.

I know there's a scout in Dorado... maybe he knows why the spots are taken. But Dorado is FAR away, it's certainly not driving distance to go to a tournament every weekend...

I'll see if I can scrunge up something... right after I look up if scrunge is a word.

As it turns out, there's tournaments going on in Vega Baja as of June this year.

Also, who posted the prerelease for set 12 if it wasn't a scout? It may be that this person is considered your scout. I'll look into it some more.

Watch out for the prize support; it does go directly to the store for your store owner to sell.

LordAggro, check your friends list, I sent you good info on a friend request. If you need it again, let me know.

Thanks a lot, man. Really appreciated.

I notice none of you two even come close to uttering "no homo" during this whole exchange.

Back to the topic at hand...

WHO'S GETTING DRUNK AT THE "PATH OF THE MASTER IS FINALLY BANNED!" PARTY?! I KNOW I AM!

Yeah, and you'll be all alone at the non-existant party.

Pfft IF it gets banned it's going to be early in 2011.

Hey, just trying to get things back on track. I'll say this much, just to troll Tag, I'm really wanting to have an actual party. I'll have giant, banner-sized pics of Path of the Master with a giant no-smoking red circle going through them suspended from my ceiling, and we'll all be partying quite hard (harder than Andrew WK intended)

So you have had a party for every other card that has been banned?

no wonder you were complaining before worlds that you were worried that you might not be able to afford to have gone, after all July and August did have a whole pile of cards banned...

Whenever a card gets banned, I have the most arrogant trollfest amongst the forums.

Where in the Hell are you when SOTGs get posted? =/
