This show howlrunner with and ACD and a recon specialist, meant to be Stealth Device and Decoy
Howlrunner can have Advanced cloaking decide (new article up)
It's a typo.
Anyway, some crap cards are still crap cards, unfortunately. Elusiveness could be interesting, for instance, but that R4-D6 is still terrible not because of the stress, but because it's too situational to be useful.

1pt upgrades are for the most part situational. Still, that 1 point upgrade helps a lot for those HLC or range 1 shots.
R4-D6 is FANTASTIC on Biggs. With 4 to 6 red dice rolls becoming more and more common, it helps to keep the guy in play just a little longer. Plus, it's a point. If you have the point to spare, I've found it is worth it.
Elusiveness is crap... still is.
I have run R5-P9 on Luke and like it better than R2-D2. Makes his movements less predictable. I personally also like Lone Wolf on Luke, rather than Predator (another point saver).
R5 and the Y-wing is a match made in heaven. These poor guys get critical damage and this 1 point Astro helps to avoid a lot of nastiness.
There is no defense for Bodyguard. That card is just crap. Had it given +1 agility to a friendly of choice at range one (without the cost of a focus) then it would get some use.
Decoy is fun to play with, and it does benefit Phantoms, but it's still not a great use of of an EPT slot.
Edited by Stone37I'm sorry but this article is really bad...
R5 requires an action. I don't know why he is saying that it doesn't.
For just one solitary squad point, this Droid undoes the detrimental ongoing effects of any Ship crit you suffer. You don't even need to use an action to undo the damage; you can just flip it over.
Huh? 1 point on a Y-wing I'm taking R2 astromech. Always.
All those cards in the article still suck. Sorry.
Edited by Jo JoI think I'd rather run four Academy Pilots with Howlrunner w/ Decoy and Sigma Sq. Pilot w/ ACD and Recon Spec.
I do kinda like the idea of Sigma Decoying off Howlrunner, but range 1-2 is kinda restrictive. Phantoms want to be free!

"You don't even need to use an action to undo the damage; you can just flip it over. ... If you have a Console Fire , you can put it out without losing an action."
But is says Action: ?

I had the same question... R5 does nothing for Console Fire.
Also Why would you ever pick Elusiveness over PtL? I think it's always worth the one extra point, especially if you want the stress.
What is the point of combining Guri with APT? APT already has a built-in focus for three dice. What are the chances that you roll four or five eyeballs? I guess it's nice to have a focus for defense after you've spent your action on target lock, but ... you could use Push the Limit for that, too.
I would think that APT is made better by something that gives you rerolls, like Captain Jonus, Ibtisam and Predator, not something that adds focus tokens.\\
[edit] I'm a moron

Don't have my stuff with me, so I can't check the actual card, but I believe the R5 'mech doesn't require an action. The Army Builder datafiles, Yet Another Squad Builder, Voidstate's Squadron Builder, and the X-Wing Miniatures Wiki all say that it doesn't, so I'm fairly confident that I'm remembering correctly.
Just shows you how often we use these cards when no one recognizes that the one in the FFG post is wrong.
(perhaps it is an early playtest version that the editor accidentally dug up?)
Best news EVER!

Yeah Elusiveness is just plain bad. I tried it once and I actually had someone re-roll a dice into a crit... ![]()
It really needs to be changed to all attack dice not just one. Then it would be at least useful.

Re-read APTs again. You don't get a "free" focus when shooting APTs. You still need to have a focus to turn the 3 blank results you changed into focuses into actual hits. So Guri makes an excellent APT platform as she can get a TL for her action and get a focus for being with range 1, which is where you need to be to shoot the torps. However, putting Bodyguard on Guri with APTs makes 0 sense. I'm shooting Guri 1st anyway with APTs. She become the most dangerous ship.

Ha... they fixed it.
Yeah, I don't think I've ever used R5... Well its actually kind of useful on a Y-wing. I take my statement back.

APTs don't work like that - they turn up to three [blank] results into [focus] results. You still need a Focus token to turn them into hits.

The articles has been edited with the correct images now.
This was a CLOSE ONE! I almost equipped Howlrunner with Hull, Shield, all kinds of Jammers and all kinds of crew available ....
Edited by TheRealStarkillerI beleive R5 Astromech was an errata that happened a while ago. when they reprinted the game, they corrected the cards, however when checking the FAQ and Errata, it was not there. Ill have to go home and check my cards out (anyone else own a prekessal run starter set?
Howl runner with ACD would be amazing. Alas no.

R5 reads
"During the end phase, choose one of your damage cards with the Ship trait and flip it facedown."
That is not what my R5 cards look like. They say flip the damage card during the end phase.

That's what my card looks like. It's also the text used in the builder that I use.

Still doesn't explain how they think it can flip a Direct Hit face down...
A direct hit is also just a faceup damage card.

I have two pre-Kessel Run starters, and no published version of R5 has ever looked like that. I have no idea where the card image came from.

HMMMM. My mind has just been blown.
I've always played it that you deal yourself a second face down damage card, then flip the Direct Hit face down. No-one has ever said anything about it to me, friendly, tournament or otherwise.
I have no idea why, or how, this happened.

I've also never seen rebels sporting R5s ... and wonder why
