AT-TE Stats

Looking to use an AT-TE in an up coming game and need some help figuring stats out for it. Mostly i need help figuring out the stats for the mass diver. Thaks in advance.

You could use the AT-AT stats in AoR and modify the weapons to read 4 Heavy Laser Cannons in front and 2 Heavy Blasters in the rear. The main cannon is essentially a vehicle mounted turbolaser in power and range, so you could use the Medium Turbolaser stats.

I would go with six light laser cannons (four forward and two rear) and then represent the main gun mass driver with a concussion missile launcher with a high Limited Ammo rating.

I just read the AT-TE article on the Wookie. It is a mass-driver cannon. I thought it was labeling screw-up because of the mass driver missile launchers on the LAAT/i gunships, which do not function like mass driver type weapons at all.

The AT-TE is also significantly smaller than the AT-AT and most light freighters, so it might be Silhouette 3. Armor of 4 should be plenty high, but I'd also give it an extra +2 armor against weapons with the Ion quality (per wookieepedia).

It's shorter than an AT-AT and needs to fit underneath an LAAT/c, so I'd put the silhouette at 3 as well. With that restriction, I'd make the main gun a "concussion missile launcher" with only blast and breach.

If you upped it to Sil. 4, then I'd make it a heavy laser cannon, and add blast 4, possibly breach 2.

For the stats, this is my take:

SIL: 3 | SPD: 1 | HND: -1(-2?)

DEF: 0/–/–/0

ARMOUR: 3

HT: 15 | ST: 10

Not sold on the ARMOUR or HT/ST, though.

Forward light laser cannons (Linked 3), Aft light laser cannons (Linked 1), and dorsal turret mass driver (concussion missile launcher without Guided, Limited Ammo 16).

HTT/SST of 15/10 should be fine, but id go with Armor 4 (6 vs Ion).

OK i can see that but the rear laser cannons were indpendetly operated so they would not be linked. I also remeber the Forward laser cannons where operated in pairs so that would make them Linked 1.

According to various sources and a comparison with the AT-AT, I elaborate the following stats for the AT-TE. :unsure:

  • The Sil is 3, so it can be ferried by a LAAT/c (a scaled up [sil 3 to 4] LAAT/i Gunship).
  • The Speed is 2 (1 faster than the larger AT-AT) and the Hdl is -2 (less maneuverable than an AT-ST but little more that an AT-AT).
  • The Armor is 3 as an AT-ST but with a +2 bonus versus ion damage.
  • Since the HT of the Sil 4 AT-AT is 40, I halved it. The ST is 20 to illustrate the built-in electromagnetic shielding of the AT-TE.
  • Factual data (crew, vehicle complement, and even the consumables) are mostly taken from Wookiepedia, except maybe for the troop capacity: 38 fully equipped clones seems a little too much for a 12.4 meters long tank and the Cross section shows 20 clones.
  • The rarity is the same as the AT-AT and the cost is based on the cost of the AT-AT minus 30,000 credits.
  • 2 customization HP to allow SPOILER ALERT! to modify its own as he wants (see Star Wars Rebels, the trailer of the season 2, somewhere on Youtube).
  • The mass-driver cannon is a hard part, so I scaled down a concussion missile: Dam 4 Breach 3, no blast and guided, Limited ammo of 48. Various types of warheads can be imagined: with blast instead of breach, ion damage, proximity fuses, etc.

If you're going to have a ST of 20, I'd drop the bonus armour against ion damage. Either it has hardened circuits (higher ST) or it has ion shielding (+2 armour vs. ion). Both seems to be double dipping.

Is "limited" ammo even needed on the mass driver with a rating of 48? It seems unnecessary. I'd also give it blast 4: it is shown to explode in The Clone Wars cartoon. Upgrade the damage to 6. It's the main gun and shouldn't be "out damaged" by the point-defense guns.

Thank you for your insight : no +2 vs. ion damages and Limited Ammo reduce micromanagement.

I guess I was too shy on the damage score and too technical* on the Limited Ammo, so :
  • Turret-mounted mass-driver cannon (Fire Arc All; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [short]; Blast 4, Breach 3).
It’s powerful (one breach less than a concussion missile), but there were used against capital ships during the Clone Wars.
* I even looked at the technical data of the Merkava to remind me how much ammunition could be contained in a tank.

If you want to keep the feeling of it being somewhat limited, you could give it the Heavy Blaster Pistol's special rule of running out of ammo on 3 threat.

I'd really take a long hard look at those weapons and special rules. The light guns are awful good, and the mass driver is a monster.

Should probably be blaster cannons for the light weapons. Probably light ones.

The mass driver is inconsistent. Ammo 48 is so high there's no need to include it (have you ever fired more then say 10 times in an encounter?). Projectile weapons in this system tend to have worse crit ratings then energy weapons. Breach 3 is probably too much, if it should be included at all this thing needs is 2 at most. Also it should probably have slow firing. Personally I'd also drop blast. Its just too good. I might however profile different shells to fire. Perhaps a breach one, a blast one, and a standard one? Make the gunner pick the one that makes the most sense.

The different armor vs ion is cute, but its not consistent with the system. More likely that featured would either be dropped (its not really a key feature of the vehicle that comes up all the time) or the walker would provide a bonus to recover strain when damage controlling.

This is what I hate about stating things in this setting. Hard to sort out good balanced features from the drek some hack author included in his licensed fanfic. Every wookieepedia entry reads like the second coming of the chosen one....

As it stands, I do think that there could be a few more changes made to this behemoth.

My stat block would be as follows:

Silhouette : 4 Speed: 1 • Handling: -2 • Defense: 0/–/–/0

Armour: 4 • HT Threshold: 20 • SS Threshold: 10

Weapons:

• Turret-mounted mass driver cannon (Fire Arc All; Damage 5; Crit 3; Range [short]; Blast 3; Breach 3; Slow-Firing 1)

• Two front-mounted twin light blaster cannons (Fire Arc Forward; Damage 4; Crit 4; Range [Close], Linked 1)

• One rear-mounted twin light blaster cannons (Fire Arc Aft; Damage 4; Crit 4; Range [Close], Linked 1)

Equipped with hydraulic control circuits (suffer half damage from Ion damage after armour reduction).

I basically took the AT-AA from Stay on Target (page 49) and modified it a bit. The mass driver cannon is an unguided rocket from Dangerous Covenants (page 61).

Speaking of Stay on Target , there's a repulsor tank on page 50 that would be a good baseline for the AAT, if that's needed. Just add a few more guns and call it a day!
