Simple SLAM question

By RexlarBrath, in X-Wing Rules Questions

so I was reading the reference card for the new SLAM action. And it says it counts as a maneuver so if I were to fly a k-wing would I be able to declare SLAM as my action and drop a bomb before I pick my maneuver?

currently the only bombs in the game are the Seismic Charge, Proton Bomb and Proximity mine.

Prox mines are dropped as an action - so it might be possible to drop a prox mine before performing a SLAM action - But only on the condition that there is a way around the condition imposed on SLAM that it cannot be a Free Action (so you can't use PTL or EI) - I don't think there is any way to do that at present though.

The wording on the two other bomb card starts with the condition that you reveal a maneuver dial - not execute a maneuver.

The SLAM action does not require (or enable) you to reveal a maneuver dial - it just says you have to choose a maneuver that is present on that ship's dial.

So at present I don't think there is any way to do it.

You drop a bomb before you reveal your maneuver dial.

SLAM, just like ion movement, does not reveal a dial. So nothing that triggers off of that condition can be triggered by a SLAM.

Basically, you'd drop a Proton Bomb or Seismic Charge on the dial reveal and then maneuver, then SLAM maneuver as your action, which could trigger a PtL or EI as it's still an action. But that still wouldn't allow you to then drop Proximity Mines, as you're only allowed one 'bomb' per round. Plus, you can't drop a Prox Mine with PtL anyway.

Okay thanks for the help everyone!

But it also says that it must be the same as the maneuver that ship executed, ie after you've maneuvered.

I do wonder how it'll interact with <maneuver> <daredevil> <SLAM>, which maneuver are you supposed to pick, do we know? Though it might be a moot point as the K-Wing doesn't seem to have EPT's. Probably for that reason. :P.

As pointed out above, SLAM can't be executed as a free action, so this isn't possible. It's actually an action, not just an option that triggers from the maneuver.

There is one possible way that you could drop a bomb before a SLAM... the action says you "choose and execute a maneuver on the ship's dial". Choosing a maneuver MAY count as revealing a new maneuver - that's always been one of our possible reasons that Fettigator could work. I wouldn't try and use that until we got word from FFG on it one way or another, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Although honestly, none of the mess of rulings we get for X-wing really surprise me any more.

Why can't you?

Proximity Mine

Action: Discard this card to drop one Proximity Mine token.

I fail to see why this can't be used in conjunction with PTL

PTL only lets you perform an extra action from your action bar.

You can drop Prox mines with Experimental Interface, though.

You can't use the free action granted by PtL to drop a Prox mine. It must be an action from your action bar.

You can drop the prox mine THEN use PtL for a free action bar action, just not the other way around.

If you have the Advanced SLAM mod equip'd it allows a free action if you don't bump. So, at that point you would be able to launch the Prox, Cluster, or hourglass shaped 'Conn...' as they are all Action: ordnance. That is unless I've missed something. :)
