I've never had a player opting for the Jawa, but one of my first D6 villains was a Dark Jedi Jawa with a double light-scythe ... yeah I know... ![]()
Are Jawa an attractive race for you?
If this rpg is the bright shining centre to the Galaxy, Tatooine is the planet I want it to stay the farthest from.
I am sick of evwrything having Tatooine as a destination. Movies, games, rpg,etc all end up on Tatooine. It is ridiculous. Luke himself, said there was nothing to see there. I agree.
I don't get how you can be a Star Wars fan and downplay the importance of Tatooine like this. Who cares what "Luke himself said"? He was being kept on his uncle's farm almost as a prisoner of sorts. Of course he is going to dislike his station in life. Of course a farmer from Poughkeepsie will tell you New york state isn't "all that". What matters is that he was there. Furthermore Kenobi lived there for decades, it is where Han and Chewie met with Luke and it is where Jabba's palace is. It is where Anakin was born, it is where Anakin met Padme and on and on.
Of course it is used often. It is classic Star Wars.
Nothing to see? I suggest you rewatch a few movies...
Tatooine has been overused. The inyerconnectivity issue the old legends had was poor writing. Hey, here is a movie character like Ackbar. Let's have him a slave to Tarkin, be an admiral AND design the b-wing. The old EU legends did this, and overused Tatooine. Is the planet important to the Skywalker storyline, sure. But not every other character in the galaxy needs to go there.
Finally: I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
Again, I don't care for the EU of old. It was contrived and irrelevant even while it was still considered canon.
The prequels... Let's not go there.
But on a whole tatooine screams Star Wars to me and millions of others. It has that classical SW feel in spades.
Of course Tatooine was used too often in those things but it was used so often because it was so canonical. Not the other way around. It is the first planet any of the movies set down on and features high in the legend. Saying it is "important to the Skywalker storyline" is saying it is "important to the Star Wars storyline" because that is what the Skywalker storyline is.
Now you, personally not having fun in the sands of tatooine any longer, that I can understand. However, you hoping that the first alien species we get to see in a SW movie because of that, that I can't.
I'd rather have a Jawa in my party than a Hutt; there's a silly choice for a PC species, if you ask me.
So, as there are Hutts already: Yes, definitely Jawas.
Hahahaha, I am playing a Hutt in a campaign right now and it is a lot of fun. Pudobah the Entrepreneur.
So Dante, when you run or play on a Star Wars RPG, who plays Luke? By your last comment it is important that running a Star Wars game means someone HAS to play a Skywalker. ![]()
My comment was to illustrate that the movies focus on certain characters and locations but an RPG or game, that is not connected to the Skywalker and friends gang can have Zero reason to go to Tatooine. To quote another setting: Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.
To keep revisiting the same worlds again and again and again, if they are not important to the galaxy at large (from the point of view of the average person) is lazy and poor writing. I was ecstatic that the reveal that Jakku was not Tatooine. This is the reason I would LOVE fantasy flight to make more NEW content, like the imperial raider, rather than rehash the same things again and again. I can't wait to see some of the NEW species from episode VII.

I'm glad you find it funny. That way at least one of us did...

The thing is that the Star Wars Galaxy might be big, but some reason people keep ending up on the same planets again and again. Now mind you, no one is telling you to go there but I disagree completely that people can have "zero reason to go there" Tatooine is located on a very important trade route, it is a place that has great significance to the legend and it has acces to one of the biggest villains to come out of the stories. Plus, and this is a personal preference I am sure is shared by many, I find it a lot of fun to have players become part of the stories they love. To have them visit places they are familiar with and to encounter races they have seen in the movies.

I could not disagree more.
Also, no one is forcing you and your party to visit this place again an again. It is your game and you should enjoy it however you see fit.

Ecstatic? Really? Because apparently the name is what does it for you? It is a desert planet, who cares where it is?

How much do you really know about Tatooine? Really? You can no doubt name 3 towns and 2 races, but what do you really know about it?
I can't wait to see some of the NEW species from episode VII.
Neither can I. But I have no need for FFG to invent them for me. I kinda like them slowly roling out the classic species for us.
Jawa is a cool race! They are Iconic to OT and therefore they should be included in a game focused on the rebel age and the outer rim. One of my players is playing an unofficial version of the jawa.
By the way, I sound really mean in my earlier post... That was so not my intention.
I'm pretty sure they will be included eventually, most likely in the Engineer supplement.
Luke may think Tatooine is inconsequential, but it IS the home of one of the Galaxy's most notorious crimelords. Jabba the Hutt's not just some nobody.
Are Jawa an attractive race for you?
They look nice in their traditional garb, but they always lose the judges when it comes to the swimsuit segment.
People tend to forget that to most humans Jawas smell terrible. There is so much social stigma that most sentients can barely tolerate them enough to do business with them
That is why in my games they are not a playable species.
There are other "smaller" species that are worth playing, like the Chadra-Fan, Ugnaughts, or Drall
For the short time I played a Jawa in an AoR game, this (smelling) actually became a running gag/point. My Jawa was showering on a daily basis to keep it down, but something dramatic/startling happened and he unconsciously emitted the scent-signals, much to the annoyance of the Tydarian I who shared the Y-wing with me, who would complain about it.

I would be less surprised if hey were in a Tech took, if there isn't an upcoming region book covering Tatooine's area. To me they seem more of an EOE species then an AOR one from what we see of them

Yes, yes they are. . . .

Hello there. Now then, let's just take a good look at ...
!?
Put the hood back! PUT THE HOOD BACK!
Sorry, but now all I can picture is a deranged Jawa Assassin nemesis who hunts down all Tusken Raiders and anyone he thinks are "Tusken lovers." He likes droids just fine, though.
If you'll excuse me, I've got some statting to do...
Hopefully Jawa will be in EOTE Tech book.
I like Jawas. Always have. Blizz from Star Wars: The Old Republic was my favorite companion.
The Chadra-Fan from Stay On Target (AoR) is, mechanically, pretty close to being what I envision is a Jawa. Small, crafty, good with mechanical stuff, etc. So that could be a good "reskin" species.
I hope there are official Jawa stats someday. Tech book seems like a natural fit.
I don't find them appealing at all, really. While I see them as almost a staple in the Star Wars universe, I find it hard to imagine playing one. Just no real interest from my point of view.

I agree. I love me some jawas, but they're certainly one-note characters. I would see it as somewhat akin to playing an Oompa Loompa.
