Shapeways Suggestion Thread

GHTROC 720. I would buy one in a heartbeat.

The Space Turtle?!? To each his own, I guess.

Hell yeah the Space Turtle! I have been playing SW RPGs for about 15 years and nearly every group has a GHTROC 720 at one time or another. My current group is flying around in one which is why I would particularly love to have a model for it now.

Totally. They're a very capable transport, and from memory could carry more than the YT-1300 could.

Yes! The Ghtroc 720! My immediate gaming group would likely each buy one, as that was the ship we pooled our credits to buy in the RPG so I know we'd love to have a mini for the X-Wing game. Also, I recently met a young woman from Australia working at a local gaming store who wanted to get one, as it was her favorite ship to use in the old West End Games Star Wars RPG!

Gamera...Gamera...Gamera is really neat, he is full of turtle meat, we all love you Gamera! :D

There's a website out there that tried to get all the varying depictions of the Gthroc 720 to fit together in one drawing...did a pretty good job, too!:

Personally, I'd love to see the ships from the Star Wars: The Old Republic (SW:TOR) MMO. The BT-7 Thunderclap, the Correllian Defender, the CEC XS Light Freighter, the D5 Mantis, the Sith Fury, and the X-70B Phantom. They're all quite large, unfortunately, and would almost certainly qualify as Epic.

Too bad, really.

Im working on those.

That's exciting news! Do you plan to offer them in more than one size, like the XS Freighter? Do you have scale information for the models, or do you just size the 3D model until it seems appropriate?

I would like to see the amphibious interstellar assault transport. It is what Jango had before slave-1

Hotsoup, there sure is some cool ships in the Bountyhunter game, if that is the previous Jango ship you mention.

This is the one.

Reminds me of the Spruce Goose

Which reminds me of

Can you get prepainted shapeways ships anywhere?

Can you get prepainted shapeways ships anywhere?

I don't think so. There might be some commission painters that would work with you, but I don't know of any off the top of my head that are selling painted ships.

After seeing first episode of Rebels second season,

I kinda want a Pelta-class frigate for my Rebel fleet as a command ship... :D

I did it for Armada. It would be too big for X-Wing

That's a great thing about Armada, practically every capital ship, frigate, freighter and space station in X-Wing Alliance could conceivably make an appearance...

Bytheway, the Defender class Corvette is already finished but I lost my Internet connection about an houf before finishing it... So Ill post it as soon as I can....

There she is :)

Next one will be the D5-Mantis

My credit card hates you. Again. Because now I have another reason to place yet another order and I never EVER can order just one.

Oh well...more for my addiction :-D

Agghh, so beautiful

Thanks for the fantastic looking ships Mel!

****, that's gorgeous!

How difficult is it to model these things?? I've been meaning to get into 3d modeling for a few years. And I'd say you probably make a living from it. ;)

Depends on the model and your knowledge of 3d modeling. Something like the Mobquet transport or any TIE is easy. Something like the Milano from Guardians of the Galaxy is tougher.

The difficult part is getting the proportions right. Organic is easy because you dont have to look at the proportions that much, geometric is easy because is easy to get the proportions right.

The difficult thing is to make curved shapes that are not amorphous like the Naboo Starfighter. Everything is joined with everything else, you have to take care of the tangents and if you make too many corrections it comes out bumpy.

Has anyone looked into the Consular Class Cruiser / Charger c70 refit? X-wing or Armada?
Seen some use substituting for the cardboard senator's shuttle. Much smoother lines than CR90 or senator's shuttle imo.

I'm loving the revamped graphics from the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade team, some stunning new in-game models in there which make me appreciate even some of the more obscure ships in the game. In particular, the new models for the Authority IRD, Razor Fighter, SCT Scout Craft and System Patrol Craft (formerly known as the SpaceMouseā„¢) look great.

None of which are currently available on Shapeways, as far as I can tell :P

Also, the new version of the Passenger Ferryliner looks absolutely outstanding. A bit big for X-Wing, unfortunately - I'd love to have seen one with a clear canopy roof and lit-up interior (and swimming pool!)

Old thread I know, but surprised there is no mention of the YT-1930. Have not managed to find one yet on shapeways.

I really must thank you Mel for producing some cracking mini's,especially your YV-929 freighter, such a wonderful job.

That's a sweet looking ship!
