How long a wait for High and Dark Elves?

By A Paperback Hero, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Any idea how long it will take for the High and Dark Elf capitol boards and main card sets will be released after the initial core set is?

I've seen October 31st as a release date for the core set ... is it really going to release on a Saturday?

It is common for distributors to say a product is coming out the last day of the mopnth in which it is supposed to be released if they do not have a firm ship date. I imagine it will ship out the beginning of the last week or the end of the second to last week, arriving in stores depedning on their delivery schedule by the 31st at the latest.

Comicthoughts, I think the OP is referring to the Companion Set, which is supposed to add the High Elves and Dark Elf armies. And we have NO word on that product's release schedule at all - it doesn't even appear to be in the pipeline, which is disheartening since it's actually mentioned in the Rulebook itself. :(

Not to mention that two Battle Packs have been announced. Both bring in vermin, instead of Evil Wenches (Witch Elves) clad in as little silk as possible, while still counting as "clothed". Vermin before wenches is just wrong lengua.gif .

I'd be surprsied if they were out before December. Generally speaking you want to release your Core Set let momentum build so people are ripe and ready so when you do release your expansion it moves quickly. Though to be honest December seems AWFULLY quick. I'd guess a better estimate would be February. Remember while Gencon had games available it was a pre-release. I think four months out from public release is probably a much more realistic expectation.

It may bother some people whose main factions are the Elves, but it makes a lot of business sense, and believe me, no matter which faction you play in the game you will be having fun.

Well we already know that 1 and possibly both of the recently announced Battlepacks will be coming out this year (per FFG's Upcoming web-info page). So I'm wondering why we're being left in the dark on the Companion Set - especially since there are some HE and DE cards in the Core Set. Kinda weird but no biggie. :)

And some new HE and DE cards in Path of the Zealot as well.

It is rare for a company to give release dates for every product planned. Usually you get what we got "future products" in a catalog. Getting teased about future releases from a product not even released yet is pretty uncommon. If I had to guess I would assume it is something still in some stage of production. That would explain why no firm date has been given, though it could simply be that they want to build the desire for the product up so it clears the shelves when it is released so keeping the release date secret until clooser to when it ships also makes sense.

I'd rather find out the same month it is being released than be told several months in advance only to have that date pushed back due to some SNAFU in printing or shipping. That would make me very dissapointed even if there was no fault of their own.

Agreed - in the gaming community we'd call that the Mutant Chronicles CMG Syndrome. ;)

But isn't the MC syndrome more likely to be problems of unmet expectations and springing a surprise format change at the last minute rather than a simple release delay burnout?

Nah, because the game itself was great - FFG couldn't (necessarily) control the painters NOR could they have foretold the paradigm shift away from Collectibility. Those changes made were more akin to someone frantically bailing out the boat before it could sink. The only issue I had as a fan with the game was the far-too-early announcement of its existence and the inability to get it on shelves on time. And on FFG's behalf, since then, they've been rock solid that way. :)

I agree with you in that regard, that the game is great and it did suffer from delays, but it's hard to say with 100% certainty what exactly went wrong when it comes to MC...I doubt even FFG head honchos fully grasped what went down with the MC line. I did hear quite a few complaints of scale issue (a non-issue for a non-mini collector such as myself) and some disgruntlement due to the bail out on collectibility (I prefer non-blind boosting model). I'm sure we can write a lengthy essay on the leading factors to the failure of marketing and promoting MC...but I'm thinking the mystery will forever remain controversial.

FFG did the honorable thing and made the death of MC easier to bear with the release of the final batch of figures and its track record has been better than rock solid since then: in terms of keeping to schedule (we hardly see delay now), timely response to fan disgruntlement (see AGoT LCG Princes of the Sun expansion's change of card distribution), promoting and supporting its existing lines as well as producing new ones (look at how busy the Upcoming schedule is like and we are promised 3 boxes of new boardgames before the end of the year!), etc, etc.

It was just a crap game.

And that was just a crap opinion. See how that works both ways? ;)

Well until HE and DE Companion set is released, I will probably wait to buy this. DE is the only way to go for me and I don't feel like playing Chaos or Greenskin with only 1 or 2 DE cards. Meh...

If Mr. Lang's promise holds true, we should see the Companion set real soon, as mentioned here in one of the designer diary entry:

Are there four races or six?
The Core Set comes with a full set of cards for four races, but you’ll notice that there are some High Elf and Dark Elf cards in the box. Because of the flexible nature of deck building, these are all playable, and serve as a great preview for the two Elf races we’ll be adding to the game shortly after launch .

Well the game has been officially launched...so any moment now, the second coming, any moment...

I hope this companion set is the first of many companion sets to come with so many armies and elements left in the Warhammer universe. happy.gif
