Ship Minis

By Maxim C. Gatling, in Rogue Trader

Hey, I'm bored. Sorry.

Anyone have any of the Space Fleet minis? I think the original "Gothic Class" cruisers looked pretty cool. I guess they ditched that look in favor of the locomotive look because they vaguely resembled Star Destroyers.

There seems to be a lack of BFG minis at the local store and while I have quite a few I wonder if anyone's come across any decent (read: looks decent and cheaper than Forge World) substitute minis?

Oh, the hobby store in your local area might have 1/300th scale fighter planes. They look better, are smaller (thus more to scale) than the BFG fighters which are pretty much ugly, tiny lumps of lead.

I'm wondering if Rogue Trader is going to precipitate a revival of BFG miniatures' popularity? I know for a fact about 10 guys who'll buy BFG minis because of RT, but have always refused to play BFG.

I dunno. I know GW works with FFG to some degree but for the most part they don't support WHFRP and WH40kRP much other than lip service and an occasional tiny ad in WD. I'm not clinging to brand loyalty much these days.

To clarify, the Citadel fighters are ugly, tiny lumps of lead. The Forge World ones are pretty decent but costs as much as a real F-18...

eBay has a metric crapton of BfG minis at pretty good prices.

Bartertown can also be helpful.

check GW's site under specialist games they have plenty and at tollerable prices.

GW's specialist game site (mentioned above) also has actual Rogue Trader fleet vessel minis, including (if the ship hulls preview is anything to go by) Hazeroth class raiders. There's also a Roguer Trader cruiser. I reckon the Rogue Trader vessels in the core book were written up with these minis in mind, to some extent.

I still have my Space Fleet models, both the Imperium and the Eldar. The game is pretty silly, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

For those who never played, the game lid has a 'tic-tac-toe' grid that you throw the dice onto. Where a die lands is as important as what number comes up. Mind you, they actually supported the crap out of that game back in the day, as they did with all their expansion efforts in the late eighties/early ninties which is more than I can say for the company these days. There were all sorts of ships brought out for it for a lot of different races, including squats, if I remember correctly. Ah, the good old days.

Thanks for reminding me. I think I'm going to break out the box and use one of those old Imperial vessels for my Rogue Trader's ship 'The Jabberwock' when we start playing...
