Imperial Raider: How many are you buying? Why are you buying?

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

I will buy one. It will be my first epic ship. I'm buying it as much for the raider itself as the TIE advanced that it comes with. I'm a little in love with Juno. Her dial, I mean.. Not because she was the only redeeming quality of the force unleashed, and the epitome of the female imperial. Looking good in the uniform. Ahem. I'll be in my bunk.

The Armada ones might be a cheaper route if you're just going for display pieces.

Yeah but armada version has a rear firing arc.

just 1 raider.

I own 6 TIE Advanced already so in theory 2 would be ideal to cover what would then be 8 TIE Advanced, but nope. Not gonna do it.

1 eventually. I have the CR-90 so I'll let someone else in my group get the Raider so we can finally try an Epic game. Also, not totally sold on the Advanced "fix" yet. Yes Juno's ability is sweet but it's still an Advanced.

You underestimate the power of the dark side...

Did you see the X1 title?

Buying one Raider; that's all I'll need. If I want to play with two, I'll probably be playing a team game, so I can borrow.

1-2 Raiders is all I'll need to play all four scenarios I'm writing for the Raider release...

I'm getting one, primarily because you can't play with 2 Juno Eclipses on the same team at the same time, so I see no benefit in a second Raider pack.

So back to a question I had earlier.

Did anyone calculate the jousting value of the CR-90 (at 90 points)? If so then what was it?

I'll be buying one and then immediately selling it, minus the TIE Advanced and pilots, upgrades etc. that can be used by non-Huge ships.

I'm counting on crazy folk, like the OP, who want multiples.

One.

Very little point in getting more.

getting one... want... well one really. Only played a single game of epic but do want the Advance upgrade as well (not going to call it a fix as just brought myself a 2nd Advance to run along side my one - normally run as Vader, Shield upgrade, Proton Rockets with Sqd Leader - has a 50 % surival rate :P)

It might be nice, but as a customer that still doesn't justify that im only able to buy it with an epic ship for a huge pricetag.

I said a similar thing a week ago on another thread and got shouted down for being 'entitled'.
I thought the argument in that thread was that you were being "entitled" because you were supporting the idea that players can print their own cards from expansions they've not purchased and legally use them in FFG tournament play.

That wasn't my position. I was of the opinion (and still am) that requiring multiple copies of identical cards just to use the rules, because the cards are considered 'playing pieces' is silly. I intend to buy ONE TIE/X1 card, and use it with multiple TIE Advances simultaneously, and this is fine because I don't play in FFG tournaments. I think the requirement to either purchase the Raider to get four cards, or to buy four cards individually off eBay, I think requiring players to do that is silly. Apparently that makes me entitled, but I don't really care.

I'd like to get one but wondering when it is finally going to ship. If it is still going to be a while I might order some other stuff.

For casual play I 100% agree. How stupid is it to only play versus someone else if he spent more money to have a card thats lying there.

It's like saying "I would really like to play that cool game with you, but i cannot until you throw 50$ into the trash can over there".

For tournament play I don't like it but its FFGs call and i understand they want to sell as much as they can. It will affect how players will percieve them as a company so they have to know if they want to have that image. I'm honestly not sure what my decition was if FFG was my company and the jobs of my employees would be connected to it.

Thanks for clarifying your position; sorry I misunderstood.

My response would have basically been exactly what CaineHoA said - I totally agree with you about doing that in casual play, just not tournaments. I disagree about the "fairness" of it all, but we don't have to see eye to eye in order to respect each other's opinion.

0-1.

I've already pre-ordered one. I'm excited about it's release. I'm getting it for both the Epic and the X-1 title. I have 3 Tie Advanced and am ready to fly The Most Advanced List until the end of time. Oh, I might use some of the other named guys in some mini swarm lists. We shall see.

There are a number of new guys from other game systems that have joined in. They mostly have epic ships. There are a good number of Tantives already in the local crowd and I'm sure we will see a number of Imperial Raiders. These guys come from historic games and love the big, epic feel. I'd be pulling these games out now, but I'm practicing for Regionals. When the Raider drops, we will see a lot of epic games lately.

Oh, you can use more than one because you don't have to follow the "epic" rules set. Just play a fun game of whatever you want.

I'm thinking of building a space station out of plastic plates or bowls and making up some rules for it. Maybe even have some three way fight with Scum trying to steal stuff while the other two bash it out?

I have to admit that I have no sympathy for those death match only players that don't want to buy the Imperial Raider just for a Tie Advanced fix. It is what it is. Buy it online or buy the cards and sell the rest. FFG is out to make money. That's why I need to buy all these different ships just to get the cards in them. The game is still cheaper than GW games. Maybe if you actually tried Epic, you might enjoy it.

Gonna get one, simply because it is beautiful :)

The advanced tie fix is ace and the raider pack comes with 4 of each upgrade anyway, so there's no need to buy more than one imho.

Probably none.

Was planning on getting one...but seeing the K-Wing sorta killed that. Why? Because I want to run a pure K-Wing force in Epic games, and that will put a severe drain on my gaming funds.

I might end up splitting a pack with someone, or picking one up secondhand. The TIE Advanced cards are cool, but I love my Interceptors and Defenders too much to switch. ^_^

One, for epic play

Also 2 additional Tie advanced packs so I can live the dream

Then epic will be bomber raid on bomber raid to save their big ships

I'll get one. Epic play should get much more interesting with the Raider. The TIE Advanced will be greatly improved also of course. I even already got a second TIE Advanced expansion, to be able to field three with the one from the Raider expansion, even though I never considered having more than one originally (to me it was always Vader's ship only!).

I've got one on pre-order and don't expect I'll be getting any more, I am really looking forward to an epic game with huge ships on each side when it is released.

First i will buy one.

Some time later i will buy the second.

Admat, ditto. I only had 1 Advanced purely to fly Vader, lots. When the Raider was announced I immediately bought another advanced to be a the rush (I thought) and have been proxying the fix. Great fun and I will soon have that 3rd advanced with the Raider for 3 ship shenanigans. Cant wait.
