Painted TIE Fighters

By TheAmbit, in Star Wars: Armada

Thought I'd post the TIE fighters I painted from the core set. Played 2 games so far and loving it.

Very nice!

Thanks! I actually went back and painted the stands black which would have made a nicer photo. I'm going to leave the ship bases transparent since I want to be able to see fire arcs through the stand. On fighters though it's pretty slick.

I played 2 more games yesterday and I think I'm ready for the fighter pack to arrive so I can get to work on more TIEs.

great job! how did you keep your lines so precise?

I paint with the side of a small brush on the raised parts, and a quick slice with the tip and watered down paint on the inside panels. But most important is going back and doing touch ups with black haha

I'll admit, I've never liked people's grey tie fighters as much as when people paint blue ones but these are the best grey tie's I've seen. They don't look like grey globs of paint with a super heavy wash. Other greys also seem too light or way to dark. Great job. What paint color did you use? Maybe I'll paint some other ties with this grey for different squadrons or something. I used Games Workshop "The Fang" for a blue and it worked nicely.

I'm at work, but pretty sure it was GW's Codex Grey which the internet claims was replaced by 'Dawnstone'. I painted them grey with that (watered down to not look like a 'blob') then washed them with a watered down badab black (much different than nuln oil that everyone here seems to use). Badab black isn't made anymore but army painter makes a 'dark tone' which is the exact same thing and is on ebay for a few dollars. After the wash dried I did a soft drybrush of the Codex Grey again on the high parts to brighten them.

I think fortress grey (now administratum grey) is too light. It all depends on how much wash you use and whether you go back after to highlight stuff.

Glad you like them. I was debating doing the tie bombers a bit more blue though just for contrast. I'll probably try out space wolf grey (close to 'the fang'). Sorry for all the old names, I've been using GW/citadel paint for 7 years and still have quite the collection of old paints.

Not Armada related but here's a TIE fighter I painted a while ago for x-wing. I MAY try to paint a small cog like this on mauler mithel when my wave 1 arrives.

Very nice tie fighter. I'm also still used to the old GW paint names. I always have to check the chart to since my mind still thinks with the old names. Let us know if you decide to try to paint the decals on the side.

Look in sexah! ;) bet those imperial aces get alll the ladies.
