In-universe, the standard armament for the B-Wing is:
-Three Ion Cannons
-One Heavy Laser Cannon
-Two Proton Torpedo Launchers
-Two Autoblasters
Notice something missing from the list? The B-Wing doesn't have any traditional blaster or laser weaponry, and in-universe it relies upon weapons that we equip as upgrades. So, how I would change the B-Wing if I could: Reduce its Primary Weapon Value to one or zero, add a second cannon slot, and possibly reduce its cost by one or two points.
Obviously, this would kill off BBBBZ, Panic Attack, and similar builds that rely on the B-Wing's price point, but it would also bring the X-Wing back as the go-to 3-attack Rebel ship, in addition to giving the B-Wing a distinct niche - that of the Rebel cannon-toting starfighter. Currently, B-Wings with cannon upgrades are viable ships, even with their three attack, so a B-Wing with zero or one Primary attack but slightly reduced price would become an even more attractive cannon carrier. A single cannon or an Accuracy Corrector would be necessary to get any use out of the starfighter, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Now, of course, this would render the B-Wing extremely vulnerable to Munitions Failure critical hits...but that's a stupid crit anyway, as a good portion of the ships in the game ignore it completely.
Something like this won't happen, as the B-Wing's statline is pretty set in stone...but I thought it'd be a neat change that makes the B-Wing more thematic, gives it a very distinct purpose, and would return the X-Wing to its former glory.
How I would change the B-Wing (in hindsight)
I have no clear idea of your proposal to change the B. The B wing and the Defender had one common problem. They have important ion weaponry, but if they equip Ions, they can shoot only standard or ions. No both.
But them game balance is trashed. So I like the B as it is in x wing.

The B-wing had two standard laser cannons.
How I would change the B-Wing:
5 K-turn instead of 2 K-turn.
So B-Wings should have:
Attack 2
2 Cannon slots
a discount for cannon upgrades
I think there is no problem with the B. Not perfect but there are greater flaws in x wing
This would not return the x wing to its glory. It'd give the rebels two unplayable ships instead of one, plunging us even deeper into turret wing.

The B-Wing is not the problem with the X-Wing. Making the B-Wing worse will not make the X-Wing better. It will, however, make the Rebels as a faction suffer. As an Imperial, I'm in favor of this.
The other thing to consider: your idea is good... if we reduce the price of the B-Wing by 7 points.
Interesting idea but I must point you to the hawk....not great company to be in.
From a balance perspective I think the b has 1 too many shields(needs more hull) or costs 1 too cheap (for generics, named are bad) but that's about it. But there is a reason it's the rebel staple small star fighter. It's good. Xs need a fix. Don't bring other ships down to make a bad ship better.

Still really good at what it does but not an x-wing replacement.
What the B-Wing is armed with all depends on what sources you go with. In the old RPGs, which fed much of the technical information early, the B-Wing's primary armament would be considered its three Ion Cannons (at the end of each wing) backed up by a heavy laser cannon (opposite the cockpit) and light autoblasters in the chin. In the video games those lasers were simplified into three lasers and I couldn't tell you if there was any difference in power between them.
Now if the B-Wing needed to be improved is should involve something like the new Y-Wing title enabling it to fire an Ion Cannon along with the laser primaries. The Defender should then also have something similar as should a number of unreleased Imperial ships.

The defender needs to be able to add an ion token to every shot, and not lose any damage dealing potential to do so.

Then are you saying the B-Wing should also be able to do the same? After all it has 3 Ions to go with 1 heavy laser cannon and blaster cannons while the Defender was just a pair of Ions to go with a four lasers.
Don't get me wrong, I believe there should be better ways to combine Ionization and regular damage but then what's that going to do to the game's balance?

The B-Wing has so many tools that giving it _one more tool_ would be kinda silly. But the Defender has very few tools, and costs too much for the tools it has. So giving it something unique and powerful would be adding a niche to the game that isn't currently killed.
Fluffwise, the B-Wing should get it. Gamewise, heck no!
Eh, the B-wing's a pretty nicely made ship. It's a slow but powerful fighter with odd flight behaviours. Screwing with it doesn't help anything really.

Although the Defender costs a lot more than the B-Wing the only 'tool' I'd say it lacks over the B-Wing is that System Upgrade slot.
If looking at them 'gamewise' the B-Wing probably should cost a point or two more and and Defender something less. In some ways the ships are a filling the similar roles except that the B-Wing is slow but tough while the Defender isn't as tough but a lot faster.
In hindsight, I'd like to have seen the primary weapon on the b-wing be a 3 attack ion weapon. Everything else the same... Of course that would mean no ion cannon upgrade, at least till defender shows up... The autoblaster would be range 1-2. Never would've replaced the x wing, but hlc b's would be a thing.
Yes the most well known B-wing configuration had 3 Ion cannons 1 laser cannon, 2-4 blasters in the chin and 2-3 torpedo launchers (1 in the main weapons pod and 2 above the intake)
But it's weapon hardpoints are exactly that, hardpoints.
Meaning it could have it's weapons changed out.
One configuration has the 3 ion cannons on the chin position with laser cannons on each wing
Another has no Ions at all with just the lasers on the wings, this is the B-wing we have in game.
At some point down the track we could get a title that allows the weapon systems to be customized perhaps....
For now Id rather see some sort of fix for the generic pilots that are in need of something, like the X and E's
Red hard 2's. Done.

Exactly. I really ask myself why anyone would nerf the B-Wing and who those people are.
1 point more, one less shield? Why? The B-Wing is not dominating the meta or anything similar. It's just a solid ship nothing more, and its named pilots are not even very good and overcosted except for Farlander maybe.
And that they say this would be beneficial for the X-Wing really shows they don't understand anything. This whole theory that the X-Wing just suffers because the B-Wing is a little better is borderline silly anyways.
The X-Wing is a bad ship because it's bad in comparison to most other ships in efficiency and has no real role to fill actually. Not only compared to other Rebel ships but compared to nearly all ships.
So okay let's nerf the B-Wing, and then the Tie Fighter, The Z-95, the IG, the Interceptor, the Phantom, the new Advanced etc.
Or just bring the X-Wing finally up to par and stop these silly masked tries to stop the inevitable from happening.
man, people wanting to change the B strike me as incredibly silly
the B-wing is the perfect ship, simply because it's the most versatile and reliable in almost all of its major incarnations
1.) it's good enough value to run without upgrades that can barrel-roll (it and the X-wing could be the same stats, the barrel-roll would still make the B a better choice)
2.) FCS make it terrifying for cheap
3.) Sensors make it unprecedentedly maneuverable
4.) Ion/flechette cannon gives it a control option
5.) b/e mod with tactician gives it a control option
6.) b/e mod lets it equip intelligence agent
7.) Keyan lets it arc-dodge
and, best of all, 1 agility makes it kind of difficult to use as a fattie. So, rather than load it up, you get to make meaningful choices.
Who in their right mind would ever replace that with a jouster that can't joust!? Getting rid of the B isn't going to help them not get slapped around by fatties and ties.
Again, the B-wing is perfect. The X-wing needs to get on its level.
Going in reverse is ******* futile. You wana know what'd happen if the B-wing wasn't just good? You'd have to nerf Head-hunters and then A-wings and then ban YTs ( a silver lining at least) to get X-wings competitive again, only they'll still get steam-rolled by high health + highly modified attacks.
Edited by ficklegreendiceAnd by the way, taking away 1atk and giving it a 2nd cannon slot for 2 points less is not fixing the ship it's outright making it unbelievably, unplayably bad!
If you want to go this way you give it 0 atk, 2 cannon slots and a 7 point discount... And then i want to see the imperial Bandwagoners whine about the HLC B-Wing for 22 points or the 19 point Mangler B-Wing!
19 point Mangler Bs?
I'll take 5!!!

Psst... Maybe you should actually read entire posts rather than getting all hot and bothered and then jumping to the same conclusion of the post that has you all hot and bothered.

Yes i was overstating the case but a 2 Atk B would probably not be worth a lot more than 15-16 points, right?
