First store tourney advice

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

I will be attending my first tourney is about a week. Any advice for a first tournament player? Anything you wish you would have known going into yours?

If it makes a difference, I'm taking 2 B's with AS, 2 Z's, and Tarn Mison with R7. Total 99 points.

TIA

Practice against dual turret lists, fat turret and escort and triple interceptor/ duel interceptors + phantom.

Try to avoid losing it'll make placing high easier.

Be prepared for there not to be a break for food. Sometimes places are good about it, and sometimes I'm really happy I put a Clif Bar in my bag.

Be prepared for it to be far too warm in the play space. Either be ready to buy water from the venue, or bring your own.

Figure out how you are going to cart your ships, tokens, cards, templates, etc. between tables. I use one of the plastic covers from my YT-2400(I think?) to pile my stuff into. It's ghetto, but it's compact and it works.

Double check your components the night before. Make sure you have your ship numbers for the mirror match, etc.

Have fun!

Bring snacks and water for yourself.
Bring a carrying tray for your ships and sundries
Bring something to help you deal with the gamer-funk.

Enjoy your wins and losses equally. Don't get discouraged.

If you haven't already, sort your Target locks. Tourney matches are timed, the last thing you need is to spend a full minute looking for the Red "A" target lock. Also practice makes perfect, make sure your build is set the way you want it. Above all, have fun!!!, play to win, but be casual about it.

Don't bathe or shower before a tournament. You will wash all of your luck off.

Don't make friends with anyone. They are trying to trick you!

If you start losing make sure you blame your dice loudly and maybe throw them so they know you are telling the truth. Then accuse your opponent of nudging pieces.

If you win tell your opponent about all of the mistakes they made and fist pump a lot.

Then completely ignore this post, do the opposite actually, and have fun!

I use the bottom tray from the basic set. It works great, and is slightly less ghetto !
