Rules precedence: upgrade cards vs. objectives

So, I'm looking at Gunnery Team (upgrade) and Advanced Gunnery (objective).

Gunnery Team:

"You can attack from the same hull zone more than once per activation. That hull zone cannot target the same ship or squadron more than once during that activation. "

Advanced Gunnery:

[...]

The Second player's objective ship may perform each of its attacks from the same hull zone, and it may do so against the same target.

[...]

So, in this case, the rules on each of these cards explicitly contradict one another. My guess is that the objective card takes precedence over the upgrade card (you can fire twice at the same hull zone on the same ship), but what do you all say?

Wouldn't both the upgrade card and the objective card both be considered 'components' in that regard?

Gunnery Team still has the word Cannot, though.

Personally, I'm sure there should be a mechanic where you voluntarily choose to ignore an upgrade card on your own ship.

Simple, you aren't using the effect from the Gunnery Team to gain the extra attack. Thus you aren't held to a limitation that it stipulates in order to gain that second attack.

And to clarify why you aren't using it:

Reference Rules, p5, "Effect use and timing"

"Resolving an upgrade card effect is optional unless otherwise specified. All other card effects are mandatory unless otherwise specified."

And the Objective card effect is straight up better.

Completely true, you can choose not to use the Gunnery Team. But if for some bizarre reason you do use it, it trumps the objective card because of the "cannot" :)

This is a great little gem that gets overlooked. This clause will no doubt come into play more a more as new abilities are released.

Yep, cannot trumps can, but since it's your card you can choose to not use it, so it's a moot point in the end :)
