Here is a linky to the papermodel (picure of oringinal full scale model) in full resolution on my BBG account, https://boardgamegeek.com/image/2806297/gilmoredk?size=original
It is made by some german guy but he had made i available for free on some paper modellers site so i feel ok with sharing.
It is made for a larger scale so you have to print on thick paper in a scale that fits you. I made the cargo pods I replaced the center section and superstructure with balsa wood and PVC board (from an old sign) as it was too fiddly to build. Then I cut and glued the textures on the PVC board.
I am going to do a small batrep up today hopefully featuring a Liberty cruiser and several other customs as well. We will see how well the rules integrity holds in a standard game with large scale use.
I have been looking at the MC80B for some time now trying to get an idea of where it would fit within the Rebel captial ship selection. After some initial concept ideas I feel it really has no choice but to be the current top tier ship in terms of slugging power for the Rebels. Their first ship capable of taking the fight directly to the enemy, instead of just trying to survive being pounded by them.

MC80 Speed Chart
My idea with even shields all around is to give the ship a great chnce to use advanced projectors from any angle. Originally I thought being a forward fire focused ship it should have higher front shields. The ability to absorb damage from any side makes it a tougher nut to crack, fitting into the ships description as being very well shielded. This ship also features a powerful forward facing weapons capability, making it more unique in the Rebel arsenal. This is also why I suggest the weapons team to take advantage of its one great arc. Anyway, a rebel Star Destroyer if you will, fitting into the same point range as an ISD-II.
Looks very reasonable. Just shy of an ISD-II, which is where it should probably slot in - I don't think I'd be comfortable releasing something more powerful than that.
Short of a larger squadron compliment on later MC80Bs I don't see any reason this ship needs a variant card. I think it could survive with a single card. Other parts of this ship that would tie in from a theme related view are:
General Solo (Admiral)
Captain Onoma (Officer)
Mon Remonda (Title)
Mon Adapyne (Title)
My aim would be to have a synergy of some sort between upgrades. Especially if it works out as a future part of a shipyards set.
Quick note: Solo still needs to be called "Han Solo". Otherwise the unique name rule will not kick in and you'll be able to field his Falcon-flying clone
So what seems like a Solo way to command a fleet?
Riding the line between death and victory until th final second.
General Han Solo: each ship may add one blue to its dice 8 pool for every 2 damage cards it has.
24 pts?
That's not a bad idea...
Han Solo : Once per activation, while a friendly ship is attacking a ship, it may add 1 red die to its attack pool for every 2 of its facedown damage cards.
or a much more aggressive version:
Han Solo: While a friendly ship is attacking, it may choose to be dealt 1 facedown damage card to add 1 black die to the attack pool.
or even:
Han Solo: Before a friendly ship reveals a command, it may choose to be dealt 1 facedown damage card. If it does, it may change that command to any command.
I am not keen on any of them that requires damaging myself to use. No other Admiral pays such a steep price for an attack bonus. IMO. The first ability does not lend itself to many Rebel ships either bacuse most of their ships won't see too many damage cards before being gutted.
How about: "Friendly ships attacking at short range may add one dice of any color to their attack pool." *Illustrates the risk of short range fighting while forcing the player to put himself at risk to get it.
Edited by Wes JansonI'm concerned about the MC80B. It does well as an I-2 counterpart, and adds another forward-fighting Rebel starship, but I'm concerned about overlap with the MC80 Liberty. How are we going to cost it to not make the latter redundant, what with the increase in hull, firepower, slightly improved shields and more aggressive upgrades to better use its guns? As an Imperial commander, I would very rarely take either Liberty over an MC80B, with the singular possible exception of an Liberty Escort Cruiser fitted as a carrier, something I might add the 80B can do almost as well, after OR and Weapons Team, the latter of which the LEC lacks.
Yeah, we've already got a close-range bonus commander in General Grievous. Solo's command style was, in my imperfect memory, similar to his problem-solving and flying: he made most of it up as he went along. relying on luck, a quick mind, and a quicker trigger finger. For commander abilities, my suggestions would include something about spending command or defense tokens to supplement an ability. I would also stray away from adding dice. If the requirement is two damage cards, Solo won't often see action until the middle or end of matches, and those fleets will mostly be Mon Calamari cruisers, Assault Frigates and the like. Lighter Rebel frigates and corvettes are too fragile for that strategy. For that reason, I would prefer something about spending command tokens, such as "When you activate any command, you can spend a different token to [double the command's effect/activate that command as if it were another dial]. Only one token may be activated this way per [round/activation]." To follow up on that idea Mon Adapyne, "When this ship activates a command dial, you may give a matching token to another ship within distance 5." This is Katana plus Raymus, and should be costed so. Perhaps it needs a distance limit?
For Mon Remonda, an interesting idea could be either "Tractor Beam no longer counts as a modification" or "When tractor beaming a Large enemy ship, you may also apply the effect to one Small enemy ship within distance 3." Then Captain Onoma could be "If this ship has [one/two] command token(s), increase all ships' engineering and squadron values by 1." Onoma would need to be expensive to justify that, but it would provide an interesting counterpoint to the above listed Solo and Mon Adapyne abilities.
Well DA, that spoiled that...
Giled, nothing makes the cheaper ship redundant when you can't afford the higher cost one in a build. IMO. To me the Liberty is a bargain at its current cost. As it currently stands I feel the MC80B would struggle to come under 120 pts. At 20% more expensive the MC80B gives you what you pay for. A better Cruiser. I do understand however your concern on it being less desirable from an all around stand point when compared which may be true. But point cost will tell the story. My main concern is that the MC80 fits the bill as the best ship available to the Rebels for the moment.
If we are not happy with him being about a bigger bang, would it be possible to have Solo concentrate on the maneuver aspect of the game? More like his Falcon squadron counterpart? How about a ship may spend a command token to increase its yaw value by 1? Or a more aggressive punch could be arranged by using: "At the start of the ship phase, one friendly ship may execute a speed 1 maneuver."
Anyway I suppose it all works out to how it functions with the titles.
All friendly ships may make a speed 1 maneuver at the start of their activation by spending a defense token.
Sick, I know, but it fits the description of Solo's command style.
Maneuvering before firing is extremely good, and could be a very good idea (nudging your cruisers into ideal firing position). Another idea I had this morning was the combined ability: "A friendly ship may activate its next command dial instead of the current one by spending [command/defense] token. (With the potential add on) all ships are treated as having one more Command for token purposes (ie they all get one more)". Thoughts?
Although being able to cycle your commands is a good idea, it seems counter to solos seat of your pants style.
The seat-of-the-pants style is taking what you have, tokens and dials farther down, and spending one to rearrange the other. We can leave the idea aside for now if someone can find a better Solo commander ability. I know it's similar to Thrawn, but after limitations and cost I don't feel too bad about the near-overlap.
Didn't mean to come accross as poopooing your idea. We gotta spitball everything we can think of.
Here is some thoughts.
(Title) Mon Remonda (5 pts) - When you reveal a concentrate fire command, immediatly gain a matching token after spending the dial.
(Title) Mon Adapyne (6 pts) - After executing a maneuver, you may transfer up to 2 shields to a single hull zone.
(Officer) Captain Onoma (5 pts) - When re-rolling an attack dice using a (concentrate fire) token, roll 2 dice of that type and pick the result you use.
(Admiral) General Han Solo - Any friendly ship that activates after being attacked this round may adjust its speed or yaw by 1 when it executes a maneuver.
(Officer) Captain Wedge Antilles - Squadrons with Escort activated with a (Squadron Command) may ignore the effects of the Counter keyword.

Edited by Wes JansonIn its current size it does seem to lend itself to that. But so does the Gladiator. Its a line that is hard to judge. As of late I have been looking at Dreadnaughts on small bases. I think we have the trouble of fighting between lore/model/canon size/game capability. I find I myself am torn between 1/7000 scale and Armada scale. Both have their perks and drawbacks. Nice fleet either way!
