I'm really curious for the Disney diecast version. If only someone did a comparison/review video for the two. I'm especially curious which one is more movie accurate.
DA's Armada Shipyards
I was meaning to go to the Disney store today to buy one as a birthday present for a friend. Might do it over the weekend, in which case I'll post pictures at the earliest opportunity. Will probably buy one for myself too anyway
Aaaaaanyhoo, as interesting as the prototype discussion is, I feel it's my duty to steer the conversation back to the next stage of the project, i.e. back to the Clone Wars. Mel just furnished us with gorgeous models for the Providence as well as a bunch of additional CIS fighters. We don't need to do all of them now, but at the least the Ginivex (Asajj Ventress), Belbullab (Grievous), Sith Infiltrator (Darth Maul ) and possibly also some additional droids (e.g. the pre-CW era Scarab and Droid Bomber). We should also work on at least two Small-based CIS ships; I'd say the Geonosian Pinnace, Wavecrest Frigate and C-9979 Landing Ship are the most solid candidates.
With Wave 2 shipping as we speak, I expect it will be harder to get much playtesting done on the GAR and CIS forces anytime soon, but that shouldn't stop us from trying
I have two Disney ISD. But I dont have my FFG ISD yet
The worst part about the Disney ISD is that it doesnt have any kind of stand or way of placing it somewhere. Its just the ISD, which is hard to place anywhere.

Ah, if only we had a talented 3D modeller, we could design and print a keyhole adapter that could be glued to the bottom of the Disney ISD...
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to vear off topic. My apologies. Having said that, if Mel made a key hole adapter, I can guarantee 3 sold already.
As for the CIS ships, my club is already considering scenarios. The first would involve the Munificents and a Providence, with a crap-ton of droid fighters.
What are the current thoughts on the Providence? Broadside heavy I would think. Maybe a flagship and destroyer/carrier (such a strange combo) version?
If anyone wants t talk off this thread about the ISDs I'll be happy to.

Oh, not at all, no need to apologise. I don't mean to stifle discussion - only to bring a little order and structure to it
DScipio, I wanted to bring up that the Defender was always faster then the Avenger in the flight sim games. Not sure where the idea that the Avenger was faster came from. The idea of making it less hull then then the Tie Advanced was to help balance it in the same role trading some durability for more offense. An effort to find its place. The trouble with the late fighters is everyone expects them all to be awesome, but there would be no purpose if they fit the same profile as the next top end fighter.

Not at all. But your right, one project at a time till its done is the only way to get done.
Anyway, as far as CIS ships, is the plan to get the ones Mel has models for done first and then move on to unmodeled?
Mel can pump out new models way faster than we can put together cards for them, so I'm not too concerned about the order in which we do stuff. There's no hard rules to adhere to, but my first priority would be fleshing out the CIS ship line with the Providence and a couple of Small ships so that we can begin testing. Unique separatist squadrons would be second on the list, with auxiliary units (Hardcell, C-9979, etc) and non-line starfighters (Scarab, Droid Bomber, Geonosian, etc) a distant third.
With the Providence, I would think the MC-80 is the model for it, relative to base size and arcs. Clearly stronger broadsides than forward or aft arcs. As far as dice, just looking at the way the fighting was in the movie, how about Red and Black die only? Those broadsides were at very close range. Would you put the Redundant Shield option on something from that era?
I was thinking also of command dials. The crew was mostly droid but some of the officers were Nemoidian, and Grevious himself being somewhere in between droid and life form. Would two command dials be too few? I think the droid-computer interface would be pretty fast, much faster than human controlled ships, even for "large" sized ships. At the same time, fewer crew options. The droids would be faster reacting, but limited in their options due to programming. For instance, things such as the different strategist cards should not be available on the Providence.
Would anyone like a repaste, updated of course, of the old Providence suggestion, one that dates from the same set as the current Munificent, and evolved into the current Recusant? I'm also working on ideas for the fighters. There are so many though, we may end up with handfuls of squadrons separated by little difference than Droid or not.

Sure.
Speaking of Mel pumping things out. V-wings and Snowspeeders just in case you wanted to fight over land.

Yay!
Yay!
I added an image...looks good, doesn't it!?
The squadrons need a bit of work, but the ships came out all right.
Thats awesome! Since that includes my work, thank you!
Yes, Mel, I took some of your model images - in my rush to get it done and sent to GK quickly, I forgot to ask you first and simply assumed consent. Apologies for that.
In fact I was going to trouble you for higher-res top-down renders, but GK mentioned the ones I sent him were fine so I didn't write you anyway. Which I should've
New version of DA's custom content available (v0.5.0)
CHANGELOG:
- adds in the medium ships.
Correct arcs are still not implemented, but you can always guesstimate and/or use the LoS tool.
The full final version will be ready some time next week.
Awesome.

No need for consent at all! Please!
Z-95s available for you Armada fighter lovers.
So, I was working on the Providence today. The first iteration looks like this:
I didn't notice until I uploaded them, but the stats for both turned out remarkably similar to the Venators. Same hull, defense tokens, and almost identical attack dice - even similar changes across the variants. Obviously that won't do, but let's use this version as a starting point for discussion anyway, keeping in mind that any tweaks should help further differentiate the two ships.
