DA's Armada Shipyards

By DiabloAzul, in Star Wars: Armada

If we throw too much on the table too fast without any consistent play, I think we would quickly de-rail any hope of balance, so the group is good. Next for us to try is the Corellian Gunship.

As for fighters, the Assault Gunboat and E-wing are getting the attention because I distributed them amongst my group, so they didn't have a choice but to accept free fighters. Everyone got a Dreadnaught and 2 E-wing or Assault Gunboat Flights.

And... Customs%20Corvette%20Card.jpg Customs%20Corvette%20Pursuit%20Card.jpg

Why is the pursuit refit a point cheaper when you add speed 4?

I would guess its because the Pursuit refit has weaker shields on the sides/rear

That was my logic behind it. But the truth is, it's very hard to cost these units. There really isn't much of a gap between the CR90A at 44 and the Nebulon B Support Refit at 51. FWIW, RogueKnight's costing formula values the regular version at 43 and the pursuit refit at 42.

I'm also having trouble costing the Pelta; the formula pegs the base version at 38 (!), which is clearly nonsense. But that's because it doesn't take the double brace into account (the formula also similarly underestimates the value of both Nebulon Bs, almost certainly for the same reason). Playtesting should give insight as to whether my estimates are reasonable or not.

Ya thats me why? Who be you?

Some title cards for the Customs 'vette and the Pelta frigate:

These are awsome! must order a new shipment soon from Shapeways! Rebel Transport ? Pretty please.... I have some convoy scenarios in mind ....

What do you guys do about custom base templates? (with the fire archs and shild zones).. Many of these custom cards do not have a accompanying base template (this is no critique - DA´s work is awesome!) .. Just wondering if you substitute somehow or if there is some files tucked away somewhere that i havent found..

They're coming, I just haven't gotten around to doing them. I keep saying "one more ship card and then I do the bases", and then there's always another shiny ship...

But I promise I'll start doing those (and more title cards) this week. Let me know if there's any specific ships you'd like me to do first.

Shuttel Tiderian?

Shuttel Tiderian?

You mean like this?

Yes... But, you asked for "Named ships" we wanted to see in the game.

Oh, right. I was mostly referring to base plates; I figured it would be a while before I could get them all done, so if people wanted some ships done first because they had those models from Mel or Utar they could let me know. But anyway I've done bases for pretty much all the Small ships by now; I don't expect the Mediums and the Squadrons will take me more than a day or two.

As for named units... I was thinking about ship title upgrades. But yeah, I guess I could do a unique squadron card for the Tydirium, though I'm not sure what use I could give it. Maybe I'll give it both the Shuttle AND Board keywords (since Han Solo captured an ISD with it once).

I would add "Access Code" as a key word, preventing the squadren from being attacked until it attacks an enemy target.

Alright, base plates are now ready and uploaded for all ships. I've substantially upgraded my design template which will make the process faster in the future and allows for more complex firing arc distributions. Also included arc/nametag colour schemes for Republic (purple), Separatist (blue) and Pirates (yellow).

Also updated the Interdictor titles:

So what's next? I want to do a Vigil-class corvette and GR75 Rebel Transports. After that, title upgrade cards for the ships that don't have any (Acclamator, Arquitens, Assault Frigate Mark I, Bulk Cruiser, Consular, Gozanti, and the Republic versions of the Dreadnaught, Venator and Victory). And then maybe some unique pilots, including Han Solo in a Lambda Shuttle as requested above :)

Here is a wave wishlist. Perhaps it might inspire you on your quest to find cardable ships...

The Y-Wing Longprobe and TIE Scout could get the rule:

Probe: If you have more squadrons with this rule as the oponent, you may redeploy as many ships after deploment is finished as you have more Probes.

and

Recon: When a squadron with this command is in short distance to a captial ship, you can look at their next command dial.

The TIE-Vangaurd and Recon A-Wing could/would only get the Recon rule.

Some good suggestions there. I think the Strike cruiser and CIS ships are most likely to follow after my current to-do list is checked off. Maybe some XG-1 Gunboats too, since FFG seems reluctant to make them.

There is a topic here or on BGG whith a long discussion about the Xg-1 Stats.

Cool, I'll check it out. In the meantime:

EDIT: Huh. That's not right. I had downgraded the (700m) Mk.I's hull slightly as it's nowhere near as chunky as the Mk.II, and the lore says it's less armored than a Dreadnaught. And I had upgraded the (250m) Vigil's hull because it's way bigger than a CR90, and only slightly shorter (but beefier) than a Nebulon B. Inidividually, both ships seemed OK. But next to each other they just don't.

Guess I'll revert the Mk.I to 6 hull and leave the Vigil as-is.... or leave the Mk.I at 5 but with a Contain and reduce the Vigil to 4 with an additional redirect or brace. Decisions, decisions.

The best thing to keep in mind with the MkI is that it is almost the same as the MkII. The noted difference being the MkII had stronger shields based on Mon Cal designs. Otherwise the Armament, purpose and Tactics remain the same with the MkII simply being an attempt at a standardised design. It was also probably a design decision so they had an excuse to make a model with a lower polygon count lol.

The MkI's 6 hull is still a good bet. We have been playing with the contain token on the dread in place of the second brace, and the Dread became significantly weaker as a result. It is not generally taking enough hull damage with face up cards where it can benefit from ignoring their effects. In otherwords 6 hull generally doesn't stand up to the pounding long enough to benefit.

I would reserve greater refinments for wave II. There are bound to be new cards that give us many more options.

There, that's better.

They're now very similar to the Mark 2 - as they should be. The Type V has better anti-squadron and offensive upgrades, the Type III is somewhat more defensive (...but no brace...) and cheaper. They'll have somewhat worse arcs than the AF2: same narrow front, but a wider rear arc.

Oops, ninja'd! But hope you like the revised versions :)

As for the Dreadnaught, I was toying with the idea of leaving the double brace, but increasing command across the board. So the Katana Fleet variant would have command 3, but the base model would have 4 (!). Like Palpatine said - old but strong.

I like the command value of 4 on Dreads plan. Fits Canon, and the game mechanics.

Looking forward to seeing the Strike cruiser!

The WEG version was nearly as heavily armed as a VicSD, more fragile, half the squadrens, but with comparable shields.

Shouldn't the GR-75 have a single brace instead of the evade? It doesn't seem to be a very agile craft, but then I could be wrong (not that versed in all the ship lore), but you seem to kinda support my view with the maneuvers you gave it (speed 2 only, and only 1 turns at max speed - doesn't gimem an evade impression here :-) )

The other designs are great, already putting an order together for MKI V and some Dreads. Thanks for the great work you're doing here.
