Grey or White Kath Scarlett?

By Gadge, in X-Wing

A long time ago i did one of the earlier kath scarlet repaints out there using the card art and another pic from the net as reference and i used a 'british red coat' red washed down to a slightly grimier shade over a light/mid grey.

It matched the card art perfectly and she also fitted in well with the imperials at the time.

However a lot of repaints i've seen do the light sections of her ship almost white.

Personally im not mad on this as it makes her look like part of the rebel fleet to me but its there some 'daylight' lighting artwork thats official that shows her ship to be white/red rather than grey/red?

Cant say i'll repaint either way but its frustrating if i put that much work in to mess it up.

I don't think there is a truly wrong way to go about it as long as it looks good. I tend to use a 1:1 mix of VGC Stonewall Grey and VGC Dead White to get a very white appearance and yet still be able to highlight the white areas. However, tinting the white areas should look just as good.

I like the light gray and deep maroon personally.

:)

I've posted it before but i matched mine to the card art and ever other reference i could find (plenty of red and white repaints ) but all the card art and graphic novel pics looks light to mid grey and scarlet to me

The fact binayres pirates appear to be grey and red on the card art makes me feel i made the right choice.

It is quite nice. I like mine better because it is mine (not that I painted it, but I adore it) but yours is yours and you should love yours most.

I went with a light gray as well.

I've always seen it as white, but grey works too. My only "issue" with grey is that unlike white it seems to highlight the main thing I notice about pretty much every Kath repaint I've seen: they're clean beyond clean. They're cleaner than the Imperial ships. You'd think a pirate ship would be scuffed, scratched and dirty like the other Rebel and Scum craft.

I see lots of people wanting to follow this sort of stereotyping, and to a certain level it makes sense, but in my opinion having a few pilots with more pride in their ships and spending more time keeping them clean makes sense.

In my imperial Tie fleet Mauler Mithel has deliberately not repaired cosmetic damage to his ship, and Howrunner keeps hers looking shiny and new.

And they're Imperials, not pirates living in a Tralus asteroid belt.
