How about this ship?

By patox, in X-Wing

My biggest question is why didn't the Prequels have the Z-95 headhunter?

Instead we got these wanabe X-wing only they were some stupid triple wing x-wing.

Gah they make the N-1 look good

Wow, way to choose the least flattering image of the ARC-170 possible just to assert your fairly meh point.Arc170_pair.jpg

Try again dude.

Yeah that is a better image but it's still a Meh design

Though if FFG were to release it I would without a thought buy it because SPACESHIPS GIVE ME MORRRR SPACESHIPS.

there are almost zero spaceships on tv or in movies these days so we should support what we can get.

that look like prequel-style apocrypha. Such blasphemy should not be tolerated in these forums. Remember, prequels lead to fear, fear leads to anger and anger leads to a PS9 General Jar-Jar Binks with 2 EPT slots.

Prequels lead directly to hate.

Better picture, fighter still looks awful.

I mean there aren't even laser cannons on the S-foils. Why do they even have S-foils?

No seriously the Z-95 headhunter would have been better. At least that looks like a proper prequel to the X-wing as one without S-foils not one with useless S-foils only because they wanted moving wings as what was in Episode 4.

Sad to say I don't find this thing sexy, to me personally it looks like a cross between a speeder bike and a pod racer.

It's not very consistently drawn either, like they can't decide on how the stripes or engines should look.

The S-Foils are heat sinks, so that when you shoot the cannons the ship doesn't overheat in combat. It increases the surface area. That's the fluff text for it anyway. Personally, I don't much care whether it has s-foils or not, it looks like a P-61 Black Widow inspired spaceship, and that's plenty good enough for me. Puts it miles ahead of pretty much anything from the EU.

Yeah, you've glossed it up a bit but it's still ugly as sin.

no wey. ARCs are way cooler than the tie poo and the K wing. Hell, I'm going to go full dark side and start the blasphemy: The ARC looks better than the X-wing.

There I said it. You can now unfriend me and explode now. Anyday =)

LOL BB You so silly

I'm not keen on it, but hey, it's way, way better than a K-Wing. Oh, and prequel stuff rocks, just not the movies themselves. Their spaceships are pretty sweet though. You've got a P-61 Black Widow inspired bomber, a couple of A-Wing and F-102 Delta Dagger inspired fighters, a fighter based on iconic art deco race planes, another fighter based on the P-38 Lightning, and a cruiser designed after the SR-71 Blackbird. What more could you possibly want?

A bounty hunter in a light attack ship based off the OV-10 Bronco.

Mist Hunter? I'm not a huge fan, but good catch, they do look similar.

I wasn't even thinking of the Mist Hunter! I just love the Bronco. I was answering your question straight. The Bronco seems totally like the kind of thing a crummy Outer Rim denizen would fly. Easy to maintain, a little cargo capacity, the option for a bunch of guns, landing and taking off from dirt roads, etc.

I always pictured the Blade-32 looking like the Bronco.

That design is a little different than the way I picture it in my head, but there's a lot of similarities. I picture a more narrow fuselage and wings set further back, but swept forward like the X-29, but the Bronco tail and the rear guns are spot-on.

II would seriously love a Blade-32 mini, though. I'm so attached to the book it's from.

I stopped reading X-Wing novels when Stackpole left, as I was invested in his characters as a kid. Now, looking back, I'm not sure why, he's not the greatest writer. I've heard Allston's stories were better.

Oh, man I dig it.

Yep, I 100% agree. With a couple of tweaks, this thing would look totally awesome.

And it has the benefit of looking practical for the most part, which appeals to me greatly.

Stackpole got the better characters, but Allston actually knew how to write non cliché-stereotypical sci-fi books.

Rogues are cooler than Wraiths, but Allston is a better writer. Allston develops all the main characters, where's Stackpole e.g. has this guy named Riv Shiel as a main character who appears in the 4 books, says a grand total of 3 lines and dies.

Yeah, I can tell you the personality quirks of most of the Wraiths, but the Rogues...? Beyond "is a good pilot", I got nothin' for most of them.

Ok I can give you that the fuselage does look inspired by the P-61 but that's all it has going for it.

It still looks meh.

Not a bad looking wee thing.

I like the F-14 wings, though Id reverse them back.

Not that wings have any real practical use in space

Well, from reading Wookieepedia, seems like the Blade-32 was primarily atmospheric, so it needed them.

The hull and the giant engines both. But the ARC has grown on me. I initially didn't like it, but the more I looked at it the more I found that I did like it, and now I think it's pretty sweet-looking. It's basically what they should have made instead of the K-Wing for the heavy bomber in X-Wing, but whatevs. I'll never understand why people prefer silly EU ships to ones that were actually in Star Wars movies, but to each her own.

There's a bit in the novel where they talk about making them space-worthy, outfitting them with hyperdrives, etc. But yes, they're primarily atmospheric originally.

Because the ARC isn't a heavy bomber and some people actually LIKE the K-wing? If you're gonna complain about people who think ships from the PT are stupid, I have every right to complain about people who think ships from the EU are stupid.

The ARC does look better than the X-wing. The X-wing looks stupid and is a horrible design (not that the ARC is much better)

I didn't complain about them, I just said I didn't understand them. As to the ARC not being a heavy bomber, well, that's fair enough. Heavy attack ship is probably a better way of putting it. Still would have been a super cool addition, though I realize there would have been canonical issues with giving them to the rebels (where they look like they would belong on a visual basis).
