My initial plan was one of everything, but when CSI had their 1 day sale on core sets, I bought a second core along with an additional Gladiator and AFMK2. I'm now contemplating getting two fighter sets for both sides as well.

If I take the plunge into Armada I think I will get one of everything to start. X-Wing has shown me that some units get redone in future supplements (Imperial Aces, Rebel Aces, etc.) So at least for now 1 of each.

I could totally see and Imperial pack with a repainted Neb-B and Imperial cards for it. Lots of ships could have been used by both sides, even ISDs.

Did that happen much in xwing? Ships that work for both sides?

Not so much for both side, but for the third "Scum" faction they added. A lot of rebel ships are used by the Mercenary Faction. Frankly there have been times in the EU where rebels few TIEs. They pretty much flew anything they could get their hands on. With the Empire, it had the war materials to be more picky about what they would fly. Mercenaries also generally fly anything they can afford.

In X-Wing the following ships can be used by both Rebels and Merc:

Z-95 headhunter

Y-Wings

HWK-290

Firespray-31 (Actually this one is Merc and Imperial.)

Several ships were repainted and offered in new products:

TIE Interceptors were in the Imperial Aces as well as thier own ship expansion

A-Wing and B-Wing were in the Rebel Aces with different paint

X-Wing was in the "Rebel Transport" Epic ship

I'm looking forward to an Errant Venture release. I'm super curious if they'll do a Clone Wars release with a new Core Box, or Faction boxes. I'd love to see more ships from Dark Empire introduced. All of the EU, really. So much potential with this game. If they only knew the power of the...wait....

I have pre-ordered 1 of each ship + 2 of each squadron pack.

I'm thinking of buying a second Glad later on as they are really good. Possibly a second Assault Frigate, although it's less likely (as I'll already have five rebel ships).

I have the Core (1) and a dice set.

I have a Victory, a Gladiator, and the Imperial fighter pack on pre-order.

If I can help it, I'm not going to get any rebel ships. (I don't want to encourage them.)

Within the game, no. In the lore, yes, just like vadersson/Duncan said. The key is the upgrade cards. Some upgrade cards will only be available in certain expansions. It'll depend on you how much you will really want certain cards. If you want to research this, the Armada wiki is a good resource. It's not yet complete, so we don't know what all the expansions include, but there are already some cards that look pretty good to me, that I won't have access to unless I buy into the Rebellion.

But eventually, we'll find out if those cards really are indispensable or not, and I plan on letting the meta shake out a little before I splurge.

Honestly I enjoy our debates, even when I want to Facepalm (and I know you are Facepalming me right back), because having a cilvil discussion on opposing views is healthy for all of us. I wish the rest of the country could do this without it getting ugly.

I realy dont like the raider at all (silly invention and silliest design) and the MonCal 30 and Gladiator has no appeal to me.

One VSD, one Gladiator and two Imperial fighter packs. I shall not sully my wallet by buying rebel scum.

I decided on two of everything that wasn't in the core set and one of everything else. That way I should have enough to cover a number of options. However, I only plan on singles of most of the next wave, not counting the rebel destroyer and imperial raider.

Seems a lot of people have ordered enough Wave 1 to ensure they have two of every ship. Seems to be the way to go until we've played a bit and decide to get more of a particular type

Two fighter packs for me as well, since 2 of each new fighter is just not enough!

I think I'm with the majority of players here with one of everything and 2 of each squadron packs. I might buy another AF or GSD but I am already thinking of wave 2 and I have a sneaky suspicion the VSDs are going to collect dust once ISD/raiders can be added.
